I am against that plan because the grenades are really crappy bombs and I therefor oppose any plan which tells our pilots to try to bomb the enemy with them. If they did more damage it might be worth it, but between low levels of boom and the inaccuracy of someone tossing them by hand out of a plane I don't think they'd do anything actually helpful. I also object heavily on the lack of actually giving our planes ailerons, which they need if they're going to win against the enemy planes.

Quote from: No Grenades and Use the Rhino's Foot
Manufacture
Upgrade Squires 1 through 3 with ailerons. 3PP
1x Bolt Machine gun 1PP for so we have one next time we make another rhino.

Maintenance 8pp
Total cost: 12pp

Equipping
None

Deployment
Squire 1 and 2 is to be deployed to Derboise and preform air superiority actions. They are to focus on engaging armed enemy planes in an effort to keep them away from our balloons and to keep them from photographing our lines.
Rook 1, 2 and 3 are to deployed at Derboise for the purpose of artillery spotting.
Rook 4 and 5 are to be deployed in the south at the Demisonne-Dreidansk frontline for the purpose of artillery spotting.
Squire 3 is to be deployed at the Demisonne-Dreidansk frontline with orders to preform air superiority actions.

Yeah, I like your plan better, though I would really like another squadron. Hopefully our revisions next turn go better, as we'll need a better camera and an actual cheap version of the VRAC A1 Emu

I'd like another squadron too, but it takes three points to make one and another point to give it a gun, we only have four points, and we need to spend one point per squadron to upgrade our current Rhinos so we don't need two to one odds verses enemy planes to scratch out a minor victory, so that's three points locked in on upgrading. So I just bought the gun so we can hopefully buy a new squadron next turn.

I feel you are immensely undervaluing the damage even a small amount of explosives delivered into the right places can do. Keep in mind they've yet to develop any kind of back line defenses and I feel a squadron of planes could wreak havoc on the enemy logistics and support. I do agree that ailerons are important however and propose an alternative plan that disbands rook 5 so we can afford more ailerons (I kinda feel there are diminishing returns when it comes to artillery spotters in the same area)

Quote from: Production and Deployment Plan Defense of Derboise (Ailerons)
Disband/Mothball Squadrons
Rook 5

Manufacture
1x Rhino Squadron 3pp
1x Bolt Machine gun 1pp
1x Ailerons added to Squire 3 1pp

Maintence 7pp
Total cost: 12pp

Equipping
All craft are to get some grenades
Squire 4 is to equip bolt machine gun

Deployment
Squire 3-4 are to be deployed to Derboise and preform air superiority actions. They are to focus on engaging armed enemy planes in an effort to keep them away from both our balloons and Squire 2
Squire 2 are to be deployed to Derboise and are to penetrate enemy defenses and get behind enemy lines in order to take out hostile balloons and use grenades to take out supply depots, artillery pieces enemy command posts and anything else they can find to disrupt the enemy advance. The use of grenades in such a manner requires our pilots to fly low, but out pilots are daring and I feel they can pull it off.
Rook 1 and 2 are to deployed at Derboise for the purpose of artillery spotting.
Rook 3 and 4 are to remain deployed in the south at the Demisonne-Dreidansk frontline
Squire 1 is to be deployed at the Demisonne-Dreidansk frontline with orders to preform air superiority actions.
There is one finial order to the forces defending Derboise you must prevent the enemy from reaching the city by any means necessary, hold nothing back.

With regards to Happerry's plan;
Instead of doing absolutely nothing with those machineguns, would it be possible to give them to a rook squadron for defense against Feathers? Better than doing absolutely nothing with them and we can transfer them to a Rhino or Emu squadron as soon as one becomes available.

Edit: Not sure if it would be possible to mount a machinegun on a balloon without a dedicated revision. If not, could we have them on the ground near where the balloons are tied?

We shouldn't disband rook 5, instead move it to the Marcranve Zydinah line if you are worried about diminishing returns.

We have 5 balloons and 3 squadrons.  The balloons aren't all that effective, but they are soaking up Production Points.

I say mothball Rook 4 and 5, hand out ailerons to Squires 1 and 2, then build a new Rhino with a Bolt MG.

That gives us 4 fighters and 3 balloons to spread across the fronts, and we can load up Squire 3 with grenades for trench-attack missions.

Trench attack missions sound like a bad idea. It would be better to use them against artillery and munition depos

The reason that plan sucks is because we are in desperate need of a fourth Rhino for aerial superiority necessities. I believe a perfect compromise is to just Mothball Rook 4 @Jerick and add a Aileron to Squire 2, this will make sure that the Derboise front is much more protected and reduce maintenance cost for a future turn where we will need a fifth to even sixth Rhino, as well as getting a Emu online

Why waste PP on giving ailerons to the one squadron that would already have them. Once we are done with upgrading squire 1 2 and 3 we will never need to upgrade rhinos ever again as we would get them for free.

Yeah that’s why getting another Rhino this turn is valuable, we get a free PP of Ailerons for Squire 4. This would make our defense line for the Derboise city quite formidable, with at least two aileron rhinos and another one for whatever it wants to do.

If we go with happerry's plan we would have all three of our current squadrons with airlerons instead of just 2. Though we'd get more pp if we mothballed one Balloon squadron, which after thinking about it I'm fine with for now since they are so cheap

That's why I'm proposing we mothball Rook 4 and 5, and use the cash to upgrade Squire 1 and 2.  Squire 3 is the only one without ailerons at that point, so might as well put it on recon or strike missions.  Squire 4, being new and coming with all the bells and whistles, picks up the slack.

I might make a plan later. Also a quick question to the gm, can we have things like "if not aircraft are here, do recon instead of air superiority" or other such things.

Squadron Outfit: Squire 1
-Beehive Grenades

Mothball: Rook 5

Available PP:    12
Maintenance:  -  6
Purchased:     -  6
Left Over:          0

Squire 1 assigned to Derboise.  To perform bombing raids on enemy artillery positions.
Squire 2 assigned to Derboise.  To escort Squire 1 in bombing raids.
Squire 3 assigned to Derboise.  To provide air superiority.
Squire 4 assigned to Demisonne-Dreidansk Road.  To provide air superiority.
Rook 1 assigned to Derboise.  To perform artillery spotting.
Rook 2 assigned to Basselton.  To perform artillery spotting.
Rook 3 assigned to Demisonne-Dreidansk Road.  To perform artillery spotting.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Similar to Jerick's plan, except we mothball an extra redundant Sky Eye to spend the cash on another set of ailerons and one of the squadrons is assigned to "escort" duty.  I'm not sure how helpful two balloon squadrons are in a single area, anyways.
