Kolechia Revision Phase, Late Summer 1915:

Quote
Foisting Fosters on Feathers:
We've heard of the so-called 'Foster' mount, a curved rail that sits on the top wing of a biplane and allows for a machine gun to be mounted such that it fires over the propeller, whilst still being capable of in-flight reloading/unjamming by pulling it down the rail. We've installed this on the Feather, enabling us to arm it with a Type 11 LMG, turning it into a -very crude- fighter.

Efficacy: 2

The so-called ‘Foster’ mount allows us to mount a forward-firing Type 11 which shoots over the arc of the Feather’s propeller. The gun can either be locked at the topmost position, or free-sliding to the back and rear to allow the pilot to reload or unjam it in flight. However, the locking mechanism requires a pilot to stand up, reach for and manually tighten a crank to ensure it doesn’t come loose when firing, an operation which is easy to perform in training but less so in combat. Various complaint letters sent to a Sergeant Foster of the Royal Flying Corps are met with polite bemusement.

You can now mount Type 11 LMGs onto Feather-1914s.

It is now the Production & Deployment Phase, Late Summer 1915. You have 9 production points remaining and 1 die banked to the next turn.

For deployment, first a few questions :

1) Can our Hybik  be attached to and towed behind a boat?
Quote
In contrast, Verusan vessels dash across the comparatively shorter distance from Malmere in smaller groups that are only occasionally protected, landing at Basselton and Nadeka.
2) How far away is this area from the nearest point where we can deploy planes from? Is it within flight range?

I'm more inclined towards Plan Balloon. As part of it we should assign tasks/fronts.

Naturally, we should have one observation squadron per front, and I'd also like to assign the two armed feathers to "Air Supremacy", where they actively clear the skies of hostile aircraft.

1) You haven't tried doing it, and also don't have any boats to test it on, but in theory there should be no obstacles to doing so.

2) This area is the sea north of those two cities. As it currently stands, your planes don't have the range to intercept ships at sea from the other side of the island (Kodemo/Livomir). Perhaps if more ground is gained near Basselton, or the city captured, you could reach this area with current planes.

I don't think the navy wants us yet, and id prefer to wait until they ask for our help.

Can we send squads to support the southern land forces, or only the navy?

Either way, there's an opportunity for a decisive battle in the south- republican armies are poised to capture Basselton, we need only reduce their naval fire support enough. If Basselton falls, Verusa will be down a port, we'll be up a port- and more importantly, if our air forces contribute to the victory, it'll be a feather in our cap.

The BR says that both the army and marines are present on the island:

In the recent months, a combination of Kolechian army and marines has made a strong push along the Kodemo Trail

The Southern Islands
The navy maintains a tight grip on the news about the fighting in the southern islands – and on accurate maps of the frontline there. From what is released to the newspapers, it seems like the frontline is still at the pre-war border on Okinso. Both sides eager trumpet the lists of enemy ships taken as prizes, but few warships are among that number. The frontline here is nominally held by a joint command of Army and Marine Corps generals, who actually defer to the Navy admirals escorting their troop and supply convoys. There are a few plans for amphibious landings on the other islands, mostly by junior officers with little to lose.

You can specify exactly whether you want to support the southern land forces or the navy, once you get permission from the navy admirals to operate there. The land forces are not directly commanded by the navy, it's just that the navy exerts a very high degree of influence over strategy there, as they schedule the convoys, are in charge of landings, and provide naval gunfire support.

Okay, so the navy doesn't want us yet. We'll wait until they demand us, I mean it's not like we have resources to spare. Have some deployment plans

Quote from: Deployment Plan Derboise
Squadron 1 | Feather-1914-NA Scout Plane | Lvoc Camera | Aerial Reconnaissance | Neophyte | No Aces | Maintenance Cost 1
Currently assigned to photograph enemy frontline along the Jawanin-Derboise Road

Squadron 2 | Feather-1914 Scout Plane | Lvoc Camera, Type 11 machinegun | Aerial Reconnaissance | Neophyte | No Aces | Maintenance Cost 1
Air Superiority duty along the Jawanin-Derboise Road

Squadron 3 | Feather-1914 Scout Plane | Lvoc Camera, Type 11 machinegun | Aerial Reconnaissance | Neophyte | No Aces | Maintenance Cost 1
Recon/anti balloon duty along the Demisonne-Dreidansk Road

Observer 1  | Hybik Observation Balloon| No equipment| Artillery Spotting | Neophyte | No Aces | Maintenance Cost 1
Artillery  Spotting along the Jawanin-Derboise Road

Observer 2  | Hybik Observation Balloon| No equipment| Artillery Spotting | Neophyte | No Aces | Maintenance Cost 1
Artillery  Spotting along the Jawanin-Derboise Road

This plan focuses on pushing towards Derboise (in the Northern Mountains).

Quote from: Deployment Plan Koldan River
Squadron 1 | Feather-1914-NA Scout Plane | Lvoc Camera | Aerial Reconnaissance | Neophyte | No Aces | Maintenance Cost 1
Currently assigned to photograph enemy frontline along the Demisonne-Dreidansk Road

Squadron 2 | Feather-1914 Scout Plane | Lvoc Camera, Type 11 machinegun | Aerial Reconnaissance | Neophyte | No Aces | Maintenance Cost 1
Recon/Air Superiority duty along the Jawanin-Derboise Road

Squadron 3 | Feather-1914 Scout Plane | Lvoc Camera, Type 11 machinegun | Aerial Reconnaissance | Neophyte | No Aces | Maintenance Cost 1
Air Superiority duty along the Demisonne-Dreidansk Road

Observer 1  | Hybik Observation Balloon| No equipment| Artillery Spotting | Neophyte | No Aces | Maintenance Cost 1
Artillery  Spotting along the  Demisonne-Dreidansk Road

Observer 2  | Hybik Observation Balloon| No equipment| Artillery Spotting | Neophyte | No Aces | Maintenance Cost 1
Artillery  Spotting along the  Demisonne-Dreidansk Road

This plan attempts to push back the enemy advance on the plains.

The Northern theatre has more open ground, which means our planes would be more effective, So I'd vote for the Derboise plan.
