Visitor Class Patrol Frigate
As a response to requests for a ship 'somewhat bigger then a corvette please while still not being as expensive as a proper cruiser', combined with some... cross pollination from the month's 'Official Media Engineering Program' event, a certain group of engineers has submitted a new design for consideration. The Visitor Class Patrol Frigate is a four sided tetrahedron, with minor engine ports built into each (otherwise 100% composed of armor) flat face of the ship for all directional maneuverability, and and a single medium scale weapon turret mounted on each of the ship's four points. This design was supposedly settled on because it allows all four medium guns to fire on the same target, as long as one point of the ship is facing said target.

The actual part of the ship that people live in is relatively minimal, with much of the ship running on automated drone systems controlled from the bridge buried in the center of the ship, along with a pair of Perpetual Energy Borehole Generators, a single Gravity Drive, and an Eco-Bore Drive. (Though if a smaller bore drive is ever developed, one meant for Frigate scale ships instead of destroyers, their are already preparations within the design for swapping out the Eco-Bore for the newer, smaller drive.) The living quarters of the ship are relatively spartan, to save weight and mass tolerances for other components or the immense amounts of armor (for its size) the ship is meant to carry once someone actually invents some armor.

While the design looks effective enough, certain, supposedly saner, engineers are complaining that the entire reason the ship was invented was because some of their peers wanted Space Pyramids.

Parabola Class 'Stealth' Frigate
While the 'Official Media Engineering Program' has resulted in a lot of engineers watching some really old (and of debatable quality) television shows, one thing that did not need an official program to get them to do was to go play a lot of old space themed computer games. And like most of the other things the engineers did, eventually someone said 'Huh, that stuff looks cool, can we make something based on it?'

And one of the results thereof was the Parabola Class 'Stealth' Frigate. The engineers assure us that they'll get around to inventing a proper cloaking system any day now, but until then most people leave the stealth part out. The Avenger is shaped like an stretched boomerang with both points pointed forwards and a long and slender prow/command bridge/structural bit extending frontwards from the inner curve. It has mounts for three medium weapon turrets, one on each 'point' of the boomerang part, and one built into the tip of the prow pole, and twin light weapon mounts built into the top and bottom of where the prow merges with the boomerang shaped part of the hull. This is also where space is provided for the twin Perpetual Energy Borehole Generators, the Gravity Drive, and the Eco-Bore Drive that comes built into the ship, with the rest of the boomerang shaped part of the hull left hollow for the installation of other components. The mostly curving nature of the ship aids in its defenses, at it is hard to get a direct hit on the ship that will not find it easier to deflect off then to squarely smash into the Avenger.

"Admiralty Code" Class Command Deck
The "Admiralty Code" Class Command Deck is a component with two layers. The top layer, which is the one most people pay attention to, is a teardrop shaped command deck centered around a large Holo-Tank 3D projection display built into the middle of the large side of the teardrop, with raised alcoves and podiums for the commanding admiral and his minions around the tank. It is from here where the commanding admiral oversees the battlefield, decides upon his plans, and sends his directives to his lessers as all his minions keep everything coordinated and in communication with each other.

Beneath this deck is an absolutely enormous super-computer complex that runs the holo-display tank, does all the grunt work in keeping coms up, does the needed calculations to make the admiral's orders work, keeps track of the entire fleet's logistics as relevant to the battle, keeps track of the fleet's damage, keeps track of the enemy fleets damage, keeps track of the enemy fleet's units, and so on. Arguably, this part of the component is a lot more important then the humans up top, but they get all the attention.

"Raiding Party" Class Command Deck
Not all fleets or groups of ships are large enough to need a full admiral and associated officers to take command, but that doesn't mean that they still don't need a commanding officer attached to them. For those smaller groups, the "Raiding Party" Class Command Deck was designed, adding in extra computer clusters, a smaller 3D holodisplay that, while not large enough to display an entire battlefield is still large enough to show what's around a few ships, extra com links, and so on, to the equipped ship's normal bridge, allowing a senior captain to not only command his or her own ship, but also several other ships for smaller affairs that don't need an entire fleet to hit them. (Really, the name of this component in and of itself says pretty much what size of a detachment it is meant to command.)

"Catapult" Class Offensive Bore Network
It's a fact that adding a node drive to a gun allows for very long 'artillery' ranged fire. It's also a fact that building an individual node generator for each gun is costy both in exotics and in space. As such, taking inspirations from the Node Shield's multiple miniaturized node projectors, the "Catapult" was designed. In function, it is very similar to the Node Shield, meant to open up more smaller gates, instead of fewer ship sized ones. Unlike the Node Shield, the Catapult is meant for redirecting the ship's own firepower, or deploying attached combat parasites, instead of redirecting or reflecting enemy firepower. As such, a ship with a Catapult Module added on is always ready to open fire on the enemy, no matter how far away from said enemy they are.

"Hammer of Hades" Antimatter Shell Mass Driver (Medium and Large)
It's a fact that, with certain exotic (and panicking to more 'sane' scientists, but who cares about them) applications of Bore technology it is possible to cause the generation of Antimatter. While the studies needed to do such in industrial amounts have not yet been allocated funding, enough is produced for testing and other use that it is possible to funnel some off for use in blowing up people we don't like.

The Hammer of Hades is, when all is said and done, just a Coilgun the likes of which have been understood for a very long time indeed. It's just that, instead of depending upon a big heavy shell to cause a large kinetic impact upon hitting a target, it fires a large shell of which the innards primarily consist of Antimatter and containment devices to keep said Antimatter from going off before we want it to go off. The Large version is a bit more complicated, using the excess space made available in the larger shell to stuff in a shaped charge that, upon contact with an enemy ship, blasts a smaller charge of antimatter inside the effected target to make a big whomping internal explosion, but it's still just a giant bomb fired out of a magnetic cannon in the end.

The 3 hardpoint fighter would be by default bulkier and more expensive. Probably other reasons too.

Quote from: 'Foray' class Escort Frigate
The Foray is shaped roughly like a combat knife. The ship is heavily automated, with only high level decision making left to living crew. The rear of the vessel is boxy, a hold over from the pre-gravity drive era and still holds the ship's engineering, consisting of space for an optional eco-drive, up to two gravity drives as well as a pair of integrated PEBs.

The 'blade' contains the living quarters and bridge for the command crew, as well as space for a bore shield unit. It also has three medium hardpoints, one at the tip of the blade, and one each on the top and bottom edge. Finally, the ship is covered in a thin layer of armour composite, enough to protect against meteorites and sandpapering. The long shape means maneuvering thrusters will be able to apply large amounts of rotational acceleration. Combined with the dual gravity drives and light weight, the ship should be quite maneuverable.

We need a jack-of-all-trades frigate that can maintain combat presence in an area without Expeditions accompanying it. And in combat, it should be able to tank at the front line. The Foray does none of that.

If we want a sacrificial meat metal-shield, then we'd want a corvette.

You should really look to the wilderness for your stealth ideas, it has been doing it much longer than you have after all. Take squids for example, that ink trick works pretty well, and in water too! So you just sneak into the dam upsteam, dump several megatons of distressed squid into it, then break the dam. Boom, you suddenly have enough water-proof stealth for a whole city!

Our frigate needs to be maneuverable to actually interpose between the carriers and enemy vessels (potential multidirectional enemy vessel approach in mind) and with the bore shield it should be able to fight it out. Also, it’s an original design.

Expedition-class Battlestar Cruiser
[Time: 3 Progress: 5 Cost: 5]
The engineers are so eager to prove that the Official Media Engineering Program is a vital part of the bureau that numerous members volunteer to spend extra hours going over the documents, and some even volunteer to defray the meeting costs by bringing various items of sugar, chocolate, and carbohydrates that might be generously termed food- if one didn't require food to have nutritional content.

The actual time estimate for the project is about what one would expect for the design of our first heavy cruiser, but project enthusiasm is through the roof.

[Efficacy: 6]
-Are you alive?-

The Expedition-Class is a creation of inexplicable beauty. She's a heavy cruiser, kitbashed together out of an old expedition ship and a fevered replication of a fictional carrier, with the only other experience the Gaian engineers have in ship-building being the clusterfuck that is the Pacemaster. And yet... She's inspired. The Expedition is designed like good Jazz, disordered but rhythmic, a dozen different design portfolios meeting, merging, and transcending their individual foibles into something masterful.

Her built in scientific computer systems were re-purposed to run control for her hangar bays and to assist any existing or added bore calculations- and she performs remarkably in those areas. The bores opened by an Expedition will hold longer, open faster, and penetrate interference more easily than from an ordinary vessel. It's a small boon over standard systems, but it's still more than expected. The automated control systems for the drones are also fantastic- though with the peculiarity that all fighters, regardless of initial designation, are labeled as some form of 'Viper'. A coffee mug, for instance, is relabeled by the computer system as a Viper Mk. LMCXXVII-Micro. The engineers assure us that this won't actually cause any problems in operation.

The most useful, and occasionally terrifying, part about the Expeditions central computer is that it's capable of taking control of most of the Expedition's systems for limited periods. Even if the ship is voided of human life, the bridge itself a blazing hellscape of skeletons, the circuitry shredded from end to end, the central computer can re-route through the interconnected web of power and information routings that make up the Expedition's design to continue running fighter operations and retain limited control over weapon systems and engines. In short, even if mission killed, there's a good chance that the Expedition's internal computer will keep fighting as long as she has power.

Expedition-class Battlestar Cruiser: | 200T 400O 2300M 1000E 120S | A heavy cruiser with expansive carrier bays and an enormously power central computer, capable of providing minor augmentation to any bore technology attached as well as improving drone performance. This computer is also capable of advance power and info re-routing throughout the ship's complex structure, even able to take full control in the event that the bridge is lost. All in all, she's extraordinarily difficult to actually kill completely.

Mk Ib Parasite Drone "Hornet"
[Time: 1 Progress: 4 Cost: 3]
The biggest problem with the Hornet is the actual drone control system. It needs to be inventive enough on its own to be able to respond to threats with relative autonomy, intelligent enough to select good targets, and yet it needs to be 'docile' enough to obey a distant control computer. The issues encountered aren't so much AI rebellion as they are fighters that keep acting as individuals instead of a directed swarm of 'smart' agents. Progress gets made, but it's a longer road than might be expected, given the simplicity of the project.

Mk Ib Parasite Drone "Hornet": 0/13 [3] |  35O  + 150M + 150E | Rushed 0 Times | Nothing Invested

Prototype
[Efficacy: 4]
The overall appraisal of the Hornet is positive. Individually, a hornet isn't much of a threat. It's small, lightly armored, and the wideset maneuvering thrusters become a bane as much as a boon when you lose one and the thrust vector goes wild. However, if the enemy is facing a single hornet, then something has already gone terribly wrong.

Lack of crew means that fighter bays carrying Hornets (and similar drones) can be specialized and vented- forgoing the the need for most human access and allowing the fighters to be stacked in great volume, and great volume is where the Hornet shines. Armed with a shattergun she acts as anti-fighter, a harasser against light ships, or (in great enough numbers) a threat to the exposed systems of larger vessels. Armed with the missile pod she becomes a space superiority fighter, though be virtue of missile swarms- not her individual power. Armed her with a torpedo, and the enemy better hope they brought a lot of ammunition for their point defense weaponry. Neither the guidance nor the power of each torpedo is fantastic, but there's going to be a fuckton of them.

Which is the Hornet's general strength. One isn't a threat, but there's never just one. Her greatest critique comes in the relatively low acceleration of her gravity drive, and the synthetics cost that mars her otherwise cheap line cost.

Mk Ib Parasite Drone "Hornet": Wing Size 12/40/130 | Wing Cost: (1T+2O+7M+7E+1S)*Wing Size | Capacity -6/-20/-65 | A 10m long, 15m wide and 2m tall, chevron shaped drone fighter. Nearly unarmored and individually fragile, she mounts a single frontal hardpoint that can be loaded with a single fighter scale shattergun, a pod of eight small homing missiles for anti-fighter work, or a single torpedo for engaging larger vessels. No particular weapon stands out as being excellently designed, but each is competent at its role, and cheap enough to be mass deployed. Individually weak, but terrifying en-mass.

"Foray" Class Escort Frigate
[Time: 4 Progress: 3 Cost: 2]
Design enthusiasm on the Foray is a bit more limited than in the Expedition for two important reasons: 1. The ship just isn't as cool. 2. The engineers don't get to watch TV and call it research. However, it's a simpler design, and the engineers are quick to work on the blueprints in order to avoid losing their TV privileges. Funding, however, is a bit more difficult to come by right after the somewhat more brutal agreements on the Expedition.

"Foray" Class Escort Frigate: 0/9 [2] |  50O  + 175M + 175E | Rushed 0 Times | Nothing Invested

Prototype
[Efficacy: 6]
Apparently, smooth Jazz is contagious. Despite not being inspired by watching TV, the Foray is a remarkable design. Technically, she has a recommended crew compliment of 20, but she can be operated in combat effectively by a single individual thanks to highly advanced suite of predictive algorithms and expert systems. She completely forgoes small weapons in favor of an all-medium layout, giving her a sleek profile. Her integrated armor laminate is remarkably durable, and while it's neither thick nor advanced, it is capable of deflecting glancing impacts and mitigating the effect of harder impacts.

A great deal of work went into making her long structure resilient against the inevitable gravimetric shear resulting from using two gravity drives, and as a result she's capable of shockingly intricate hard maneuvers. Despite her shape and the potential sharpness of her GLORIOUS NIPPON STEEL laminate armor, Gaian captains are strongly advised against using this exceptional handling to turn her into a space sword.

"Foray" Class Escort Frigate: | 0T 120O 550M 220E 40S | A nearly automated frigate that utilized an all-medium layout, thin but tough integrated armor, and a structure that's designed to be used effectively with gravity drives to resisting shearing force and dance like a blade.

3 Medium Hardpoints
Built in PEB X2
80 Capacity
+130 Power
