I'd rather like to save a die, so that next turn we can make the testudo, complete the epee and still have a leftover die for a revision.

Lazarus is , I think, unneeded. But  upon re-reading the tech list, i think sequential firing may be unworkable. Probably switching to VFI

I'd still prefer the Doom Ray but since that doesn't look likely to win I'll also vote for the VFI.

And here is me being incredibly indecisive. SFP has its issues in running into maximum particle speed. VFI has its issues in trying to be a direct upgrade; and as such possibly much more constrained in effect. I do agree that one of the Death Ray revisions should go through, and that we should only throw one die out; save it so we can consider tossing 2 dice on the Epee and still have room for possible revisions (Or just juggle it until we can do a turn with two designs; we got a lot of stuff to get started on after all!)

Variable Fuel Injection
[Efficacy: 4]
While the process of creating a controlled fusion/fission explosion on contact, using a particle accelerator that spends most its life living inside a ship whose crew wish to continue to be alive, is not something that should be done lightly, some considerable progress is made to create an experimental fuel mixture. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the accelerator, the difference in velocity between the two particle streams is considerable. In practice, this means that unless the bore can be opened in extremely close proximity to the target and with minimal relative velocity, the two streams will separate and become dramatically less likely to have a solid collision and ignite a paired reaction. Second, the first generation fuel pair tends to generate a scattered reaction. The initial fusion detonation forces back and partially scatters both itself and the second wave, reducing optimal initial impact damage slightly and reducing secondary fission damage significantly.  On a solid contact with a slower moving target, this modification to the Death Ray deals greatly increased explosive damage to the hull- however, it deals greatly reduced damage to heavier armor and quick moving targets.

"Death Ray" Linear Particle Beam Accelerator - VFI Upgrades: | 20T 0O 0M 20E 0S / 60T 0O 0M 60E 0S | Upgrade  for Medium Mount/Large Mount | Capacity: -0/-0 | Power: -0/-0 | An experimental ammunition upgrade for the Death Ray weapon system, using a paired light-heavy element particle stream to initiate a fusion-fission reaction at contact point. Deals explosive hull damage against slow moving targets, but struggles against heavy armor and ships with a high relative velocity to the beam.

To fully repair/resupply all Galacticas in the field, we will need to spend: T 478, O 772, M 3139, E 2707, S 372. (20% cost of a galactica w/o compliment, plus 327 hornets and 4 honey drones).

Thus, if we want to turn those Galacticas around this turn, we'll only have T 10012, O 43942, M 8524, E 7506, S 256 remaining for new builds.

We don’t really need to repair the damaged one in Sierra this turn, if it gets in the way of more than one Foray.

It definitely will get in the way of a Foray, I suspect.

If we want to resupply the Expedition at Oscar, it'll still cost T 132, O 264, M 924, E 924, S 132.

Although if we go with the idea of using it as a reserve cruiser, we won't have to worry about that as much.

Using it as a reserve cruiser though... With no bore drive, her mobility is crippled. With no fighter complement (all of her fighters that are left should go to the C&C Expedition to bring that one up to almost 100% combat readiness) she's pretty much defanged. And she has enough already present damage that another big hit would probably sink her.

While we could leave her at Sierra to drag another Foray into our decisive battle, I'd rather drag her to Mike in preparation to get her repaired.

EDIT:Also, technically speaking, we can't repair her this turn without investing two separate Forays to drag her back to Gaia. So we don't have to factor in the costs of fixing her or replacing her fighter wing in this turn's budget.

We've got two mission killed cruisers Jilla, one at Sierra which is also bore crippled, whilst one at Oscar merely has 22% of its complement remaining.

The second cruiser at Sierra is at 87% complement remaining, whilst the second cruiser at Oscar is dead.

If we can bring those two with complements together, we'll have one basically complete ship, and one empty one. People are proposing that we use the empty one as a reserve cruiser to pick up any orphaned fighters in case of carrier loss.

Oh that one. I somehow never got that impression. Yeah, reserve cruiser to pick up orphaned fighters can work. Going to think if I'd rather have that or just send it home for a fresh fighter wing, though.

Quote from: Plan Double Sierra

The remaining 3851 PP will be sunk into progress for a Galactica next turn.

T 350 O 347 M 1492 E 980 S 130

Total: 830 O 2575 M 7595 E 4750 S 585

3:
Liir Front:
Kilo:
The Pacemaster here leaves to Gaia/Lima through its own power.
GREAT infantry advance, O4/D1

Juliett:
Fleet Iris-Hong: The Pacemaster picks two GREAT and a Bumble Drone from Juliett, then the Fleet relocates to Romeo through Kilo (the Pacemaster moving through the Foray's bore), landing these troops on Romeo.
The one GREAT left on Juliet stands by and does not engage in combat or territorial acquisition unless attacked, in which case he takes on O1/D4 strategy.

Romeo:
Fleet Nautilus: Fleet Nautilus' Pacemaster immediately picks up three GREAT and one Bumble Drone unit from Romeo, and moves to Tango through the Escort Foray's bore (the Escort Foray doesn't follow), landing these troops there. The rest of the fleet remains stationary and combines with Fleet Iris-Hong, this combined fleet now taking on the name of Fleet Iris-Hong.

If the Liir arrive before Fleet Iris-Hong, then the Expedition and Foray take on a harassing strategy, attempting to stay in the near-field at all times and taking harassing shots with their Death Rays, while the Expedition sends out fighters when one of two conditions are met:
Condition one: If the Liir ships are about to enter Engagement Range, the Expedition sorties its fighters for defensive action, 40% SRM 30% Shattergun 30% Torpedoes.
Condition two: If Liir ships attempt to land ships on the planet, fighters are deployed to attack the transport, 30% SRM 30% Shattergun, 40% Torpedoes, in which case the Foray and Expedition also fire Death Rays at the transport.

The two GREAT and one Bumble Drone now on Romeo advance to take as much unoccupied land as possible, O4/D4, but if the Liir do land they go O1/D4 instead.

Fleet Iris-Hong: Fleet Iris-Hong, after moving to this system and combining, takes a defensive stance. As previously mentioned, it lands its troops on Romeo.
If the Liir for some reason arrive in Romeo after Iris-Hong has, then the previous strategy is just enacted but with more ships while the Pacemaster hides.

Tango:
Fleet Nautilus: Fleet Nautilus' Pacemaster deploys three GREAT and one Bumble Drone on the planet. It then moves to the edge of the system and hides, reducing its emissions as much as the poor thing can. It now takes the name of Fleet Nautilus for itself.

These three GREAT and Bumble take on a O1/D4 strategy if the Hivers arrive, but otherwise take as much land as they can.

Hiver Front:
Gaia/Lima:
All ships at Gaia/Lima move to Mike (the Crowd Control Forays use the PD and Strike Forays' bores to do so, since those bores are speed 2, and they also do so from Mike to Sierra).

Oscar:
Fleet Rao: The entirety of Fleet Rao at Oscar attempts to bore out of the system back to Mike, maintaining as much speed as possible while still not delaying the bore calculation out significantly. If the Hiver fleet at Oscar attempts to hunt it down, it out-accelerates the Hiver fleet to flee, and does not attempt to engage, still trying to bore out of the system.

The ground forces on Oscar take on O1/D4 strategy.

Sierra One:
Fleet Telarana: The damaged expedition transfers as many Hornets to the C&C Expedition as the C&C Expedition can hold, and moves to the edge of the system closest to Mike while the other ships hunt.
The ground forces take as much unoccupied land as possible, except if the Hivers land troops, in which case they take on O1/D4 strategy.

The C&C Expedition and the Escort Foray attempt to hunt down the Hiver fleet in the edge of the system. If they do catch the enemy fleet they will remain in the Near Field for most of the battle, taking Death Ray potshots at the destroyers. The C&C Expedition will deploy all of its fighters with torpedoes, and bore-deploy them as close to the enemy cruiser as possible, at which point they all hit the enemy Wrath with their torpedoes. If this torp run is not sufficient to kill the Wrath, the fighters flee to Engagement Range of the Wrath, where the Escort Foray bores in to meet them, proceeding to then bore the fighters back to the Expedition, at which point it sends them out for another torpedo run. If the Wrath is successfully destroyed and the enemy destroyers haven't left, the Expedition and Wrath bore to engagement range with them and fuck them up.

If the hunting vessels do not find the enemy fleet in Sierra within the time it normally takes our range-2 bores to calculate a bore to one system, or after the battle if they do, then they retreat to the edge of the system that our fleet arriving from Mike will be at. The Escort Foray will create a bore to allow the damaged Expedition to flee to Mike, while the C&C Expedition creates a bore for the Pacemaster to flee to Mike through.

November:
Fleet Aphelion: The Escort Foray here moves to Mike. The Pacemaster does as well, following it.
The ground forces take as much unoccupied land as possible, unless the Hivers land here, in which case they take O1/D4 strategy.

Mike:
The Cargomaster here leaves to Gaia/Lima, through its own power.
The ground forces on Mike continue taking as much land as possible unless the Hivers somehow land, in which case they take on O1/D4 strategy.

All ships at Mike but the Pacemasters and Damaged Expedition (which remain as fleet Telarana), once all of our ships have arrived here, combine, take on the name of Fleet Gaia, and then move to Sierra.
Should the Hivers send a fleet to Mike, Fleet Gaia takes on the strategy detailed in the Sierra Two section of this plan, which is the one at the end, except with one less Escort Foray attacking the enemy destroyers, and one less Expedition.

Sierra Two:
Fleet Gaia arrives in Sierra from Mike, and takes in the Escort Foray and C&C Expedition from Sierra. The C&C remains in reserve, transferring as many of its fighters to the Expedition from Oscar as possible, joining the battle if one of the Expeditions is destroyed. If the Oscar ships were unable to leave Oscar, then the Sierra C&C just joins the fleet.

This fleet prepares for Hiver incursion, keeping bore calculations running when possible so that it can jump in to the following strategy as soon as possible when the Hiver fleet shows up:

The Expeditions present at Sierra bore into Near Field range of the Wrath cruiser, and then immediately deploy all of their Hornet fighters into Engagement range of the Wrath cruiser, where the three Crowd Control Forays bore in to join them. These fighters have a loadout of 33% Shattergun, 33% SRM, 33% Torpedo. All of these ships and fighters attack the enemy fighters (or, if they split their fighters, the bulkiest portion of them) when they are deployed, and then move in to make a torpedo run on one enemy Wrath, intercepting the largest group of enemy fighters that they can on the way.

In combat with enemy fighters, the three Crowd Control Forays support the fighters by firing their medium shatterguns into the Hiver fighter wave while it approaches or while it's separated, and at the same time they fire their Garrotes constantly -- the Hornets are to abuse their blink capacity to attempt to bait the Hiver Relentless fighters into the deployed Garrote wires without taking damage themselves, making the most of the Foray support. Once they actually attack the enemy Wrath that they team up on, the Crowd Control Forays fire their shatterguns into any fighter guard that cruiser has, while the shattergun/SRM Hornets also focus on destroying this guard. Once this fighter guard is destroyed, the torpedo Hornets attack the enemy Wrath, with the other Hornets joining them to provide what are essentially decoy targets.

If the torpedo run has completed and the enemy fleet hasn't left, the Crowd Control Forays bore to return to the Expeditions, the fighters utilizing their bores to return and rearm, and then when the fighters have rearmed they take a loadout of 25% shattergun, 25% SRM, and 50% torpedo and bore back out to make repeated torpedo runs against the enemy Wraths with this method, focusing in on one Wrath each time.

The Expeditions present at Sierra first attempt to keep in Near Field Range of the Wrath cruisers at all times, using their faster bore speed to continually change their position within the Near Field, beginning calculating the next movement within the Near Field as soon as they come in from the bores. While this calculation is performed, the Expeditions take Death Ray pot shots at the Hiver destroyers, creating the bores and leaving through them ASAP, in this way hoping to avoid taking Sunbeam fire from the Wraths. The PD Foray and one Escort Foray join the Expeditions at Sierra, with the Escort Foray aiding in the Death Ray pot shots. Both Forays will screen for the Expeditions if enemy fighters getting through, using their bore shields to do so (and with the PD foray using its shatterguns to destroy enemy torpedoes, and then enemy fighters). As long as the Escort Foray is alive, it will also have the PD foray use its bore to follow the Expeditions. If the Expeditions ARE attacked with Sunbeams, they attempt to use their full bore drives to block it, with the bore shields used a distance behind them.

The Strike Foray and two of the Escort Forays try not to enter Engagement range of the Wrath, and instead bore around it to enter Knife Fight range of the enemy destroyers, firing Death Rays at enemy destroyers, focusing fire in order to attempt to destroy them. The Strike Foray keeps its DEATH marines offline unless somehow boarded, keeping its power exactly even, and while it mainly uses its shattergun for point defense, it will also use it to on areas damaged by the Death Ray strikes.

If one of the Escort Forays doesn't make it to Fleet Gaia in the first place, instead one Escort and one Strike attack the enemy destroyers. If both Escort Forays fail to make it, one Escort and one Strike attack the enemy destroyers and the PD is left to screen for the Expeditions alone, only shifting its power from bore-mode to combat-mode if enemy fighters make an attack run.
