I have had a slightly mad idea.

“Fine Dining” Organic Material Torpedo
We have so much goddamned food and crops. Besides bio-plastic, nothing really uses large amounts of the stuff. So lets make our enemies choke on it all. To begin such a process, we take all this biomass, use it to grow a slightly modified native plant found in the Telaraña Jungle, which produces chemicals that when mix result in a catastrophic explosion as well as another mix resulting in a highly corrosive acid. These are distilled and concentrated to maximize potency and increase effect. This violent cocktail is separated and then mounted as the warhead on a bio plastic sheathed multi stage missile which derives thrust from a controlled mixing of the chemicals used in the warhead, meaning that if the missile strikes a target, all remaining fuel increases the explosive power greatly. Behind the initial explosive is a payload of the aforementioned acid, which is then propelled inward by the secondary explosion of the rocket fuel. These missiles can either be mounted externally on hulls in launch crates of 4, magazine fed turrets, or missile tubes built into a ship. The Fine Dining torpedo is aimed for use at the Engagement Distance range.
NOTE: The amount of organics needed to make a functional warhead is no issue.

Mainly voting for the razor-wire torpedo because I figure it'll be easier to talk people into making an explosive missile as well later on then it would be to convince them to make a cool mono-sword-wire-net torpedo later on. And the lightsaber torpedo is just a cool idea.

'Garrotte' Long Range Mono-Wire Missile
[Time: 5 Progress: 4 Cost: 4]
Having their access to high-explosives suspended due to an unfortunate incident involving a bore drive, three liters of vodka, and a two mugs full of frozen C3H5N3O9, the engineering team in charge of the 'Garrotte' project is thrilled to still be working on something lethal- if slightly less explosive than their previous endeavors at creating the infamous White Russian cocktail of old earth history.

Prototype
[Efficacy: 4]
The 'Garrote' LRM is a serviceable missile system, although with some notable limitations. The launcher is designed to fire missiles in pods of four, and the missile itself will accelerate rapidly to several hundred km/s upon launch, and then reserve fuel until close enough to a target to engage final thrust and evasion.

The 'warhead' is programmed to before impact, range calculated to spray the target area with laceration threads of the carbon filament. The charged filament is incredibly strong, and is capable of slicing into hull, but its light weight and incredible thinness will generally cause it to lose velocity rapidly and fragment- limiting its usefulness against larger vessels.

Against small ships, and particularly against groups of fighters, the invisible wire is an enormous and persistent threat. The wire is capable of crippling corvettes and slicing clean through fighter wings- which is a bit of a double edged sword. As the filaments continue to remain on the battlefield, they become a hazard to any ship unfortunate enough to slam through them.

'Garrotte' Long Range Mono-Wire Missile: | 100T 20O 100M 75E 0S | Native to Medium Mount | -13 Capacity | -6 Power | A launch system designed to quad launch mono-wire filled LRMs. Each warhead is capable of producing an expanding ball of charged mono-filament carbon wire at extreme velocity, slicing into targets caught by the threads. Less effective against heavier armor, but highly effective at area denial to light craft.

I'm fine with this. Maybe include the smooth jazz quote from the Expedition's design, and the fact it is contagious from the Foray's.

Revised list of quotes, dividen in Our quotes (above) and Draignean quotes (below)

“Well, it turns out that if you can open wormholes conservation laws go down the drain.”

“Look, it doesn't make that much sense as a name but it was great wordplay and everyone knows wordplay is a proven technique to get funding approved.”

“’Boo-hoo’, go the doomsayer physicists, ‘stop casually messing with the fabric of spacetime!’
That sounds like a challenge to us.
We will bend the fabric of existence to our very whims.”

“Traditionally, this concept refers to the impossible act of [redacted]. Our concerned physicists have been in a state of despair since we decided that it is not impossible at all.”

“We also plan on a prototype testing at R&D HQ. Maybe it'll help with the rocks those physicists are starting to throw at my windows. “

“Once again, a simple concept to make the universe (and physicists) cry.”

“The "Official Media Engineering Program" wherein our engineers watch pieces of old-Earth sci-fi television shows together with popcorn and candy has been a huge hit. It's definitely productive. Honest. The Firefly thing wasn't a one time fluke. So when we asked one of the engineers what ideas they came up with, they got an expression on their face kind-of similar to the look the physicists get when we start talking about boreholes, then they rushed into their office and came out a few hours later with a new design”

“Someone advocated that they be painted red, "To strike fear into our enemies, as if they are covered in blood!". Given we have no confirmation that alien attackers will have red blood, we assume it's a reference. That's why we allowed it.”

“Cut to the Gaian engineering research, it’s a bunch of mathematicians screaming in a room filled with mountains of cocaine and borehole math papers”

“So, our goal is to kick physics in the guts until it stops complaining and lets us do whatever, right?”

“Okay, have you shut the windows?
Good. Make sure to lock the doors and engage the R&D facility's defensive systems too. How the physicists still manage to rile up riots outside I still don't know.”

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“All it requires is repeatedly cutting into the fabric of space-time, and absolutely nothing can go wrong with that. “

“The economy class is a fair step down, but she's much more affordable to pack into a vessel or high-school science fair. We expect civilian casualties to rise slightly and military expenses to decrease. Bizarrely, while we expected the naysayers to quiet down a bit for our new eco-friendly model, they're still screaming. Just no pleasing some people.”

“Turns out, screaming quantum at things doesn't always make it better. Particular when both sides of the room are screaming it at one another and brandishing some form of computational readout that nobody actually understands but everyone agrees is crucially important. To something. We're not actually sure what that something is yet, but we are sure that the answer involves the word 'quantum'.”

“Work on the project is enthusiastic, and more than one coffee mug is juggled at high velocity between the unstable prototypes that absolutely should not be operated around a human being within coffee mug juggling range.”

“The ones with straws up their noses comparing mug-to-mug reaction times and taking anti-rad meds from working too close to naked and unstable bore apertures start exchanging high-fives. The ones with starched shirts and well-reasoned documents about the dangers of rapidly expanding the forefront of bore-science beyond our currently defined safe limits, well, they start hiding their eyes and crying a little harder. Still, initial estimates to getting production up are favorably, despite the crying. “

“Somewhere, when re-watching the video archives of Firefly, an engineer sees the clip of Kaylee rummaging through the junkyard and exclaiming about Synchronizers. In that moment, an idea occurs: Synchronizers are definitely a thing space ships should have. “

“It's completely unreasonable to assume that any sane scientist would add an experimental functionality to an already untried and unfinished prototype design- such an action would be a gross violation of safety protocols, ethical standards, and- giggle
Aw, shit, sorry, we just couldn't say that with a straight face.”

“[…]Frequently co-opted to lift heavy objects, help perform minor repairs, and fill out teams during board game nights […]”

“There are two good things about riots. One, they bring communities together. The people outside are hardcore PESTTs (People for Ethical Space-Time Testing), and they get brought together to throw bricks at the security cannons. This in turn brings the engineers together since they can't leave without getting bricks chucked at their heads. This means more time spent working on projects that, ironically, will cause further riots and perpetuate a continued productive cycle of SCIENCE.
Oh, the second good thing is that gets an engineer or two kipped in the head with a brick. Which, let's be real here, they had coming. “

“It solves the problems in the original system by innovating in two important ways. The first is that it uses the shade of red known as Red Cosmos instead of simple Red. Engineering assures us that the original colour wasn't close enough to the edge of known science, and that the new color is considerably darker and, thus, much edgier.”

“Having their access to high-explosives suspended due to an unfortunate incident involving a bore drive, three liters of vodka, and a two mugs full of frozen C3H5N3O9, the engineering team in charge of the  project is thrilled to still be working on something lethal- if slightly less explosive than their previous endeavors at creating the infamous White Russian cocktail of old earth history.”

Anyway, design ideas for the wire and other stuff.

Reversed Polarity

The Garotte is an effective weapon, but it can form an unintened battle hazard. By reversing the polarity on the magnetic coil, we can retract the fibers on demand. This allows us to manipulate the terrain to our advantage. What seemed like a dangerous cloud of wires a second ago can suddenly retract itself into a relatively small blob of scrunched up wires, allowing a suprise attack on what was thought to be a secure front. As a minor benefit, the scrunched up ball allows for damage to be concentrated if it makes a direct hit.

Auxilary Quantum Computer The main DriveNav  computer is only usefull for long distance jumps because it requiresca relatively long run-up time before it becomes effective. In order to resolve that issue and allow combat utilization, we've created the Auxilary Quantum computer. The auxilary computer guesses what bores will be needed in the future, doing the preliminary calculations on thousands of possibilities at once. If it guesses right, it shunts the calculation to the main comouter to finish, if it's wrong, it throws it away. Thanks to massive parralelization, we retain a sufficient succes rste even if 99% fails.

Weapon Bore Director
This Revision is simply to take the BoreNav, a fantastically complex and advanced computer, and help us kill things with it. Currently it only deals well with longer term calculations for bore jumps, the goal of the revision is to develop a variant that is much more adapt at the managing and guiding the generation of boreholes for weapons such as the Deathray.

Guillotine Charges

The primary problem of the Garotte is that against armor, it is largely ineffective. However, if the missile were to penetrate, it could do horrible and violent things to the interior of a ship. Hence, the Guillotine charge.

This would involve changing the Garotte missile so that rather than detonating in space and dispersing it's wires in the vacuum, it would use a tandem charge system to pierce the enemy armor before doing so. Ideally, this would mean the monomolecular wires can lash about inside the enemy ship, dealing tremendous damage to internal systems and crew.

Revision: Bore Array Short-Sensors

The BASS is actually pretty straightforward in implementation.

The BoreNav is great and all, but its sheer scale means the time required to generate boreholes -- while amazing relative to other long-range boreholes -- isn't practical for use adjacent to the hull. If we hardcode some variables used by the BoreNav to assume adjacency of the hull and connect it directly to any sensors already on the hull such as those used by the Bore Shield, we can hopefully significantly improve time-to-usefulness of the BoreNav when it's dealing with bores adjacent to the hull.

In simpler words, we hardcode in a "hull-adjacent" situation into the BoreNav that allows it to relatively-instantly calculate things in those situations. This should allow it to be used in hull-adjacent situations (targeting bore-based guns with the terminus next to the hull, the boreshield, etc. etc.) and improve our performance (especially against chaos) there.

TL;DR: Make the BoreNav also give notable aid to calculations forsmall bores adjacent to our hull. Via basically hardcoding that situation in so it doesn't have to "warm up" to do those calculations.

You should really look to the wilderness for your stealth ideas, it has been doing it much longer than you have after all. Take squids for example, that ink trick works pretty well, and in water too! So you just sneak into the dam upsteam, dump several megatons of distressed squid into it, then break the dam. Boom, you suddenly have enough water-proof stealth for a whole city!

Ok, here is some lore regarding our population situation.
Tell me what to think.

The expedition fleet was one of the largest exploratory endeavours of humanity, with several thousand crew members. But while that is a significant size for a scientific team studying a planet and establishing an initial settlement, it is a whole other story when several thousands is all that is left of humankind.

Whatever destroyed Earth was still out there and a small crew would have no chances of fighting against it. In order to do that, it would be necessary to expand, create infrastructure, exploit the planet, and produce more bright minds to research new technologies for the sake of survival. The need to increase the population as rapidly as humanly possible has been present since the early days of Gaia.

An ambitious goal was set, to have each generation 10 times as large as the previous one. Initially, there was much rejoicing for the so-called Aphrodite project, but it took barely nine months before the colonists discovered that there is more to it than having sex all the time. Children need to be fed, children need to be cared for. Mothers need assistance during pregnancies. And then, they start to walk, and they need to be followed and educated. And during his or her active time, a colonist would have to do so for 10 children, conception to adulthood!  It soon became clear that this plan, now rechristened Hera initiative, would be one of the biggest efforts ever undertaken by humans and would tie a good percentage of the manpower of the colony.

A full quarter of the population works constantly for the task of raising children into the great minds of the new generations, and even that is only possible thanks to the widespread help of robotics, automation and quite a bit of applied technology. After the initial days, live pregnancy became fairly rare, with artificial wombs both publicly and privately owned being the rule: after all, a baby is too precious a thing to risk miscarriages and the mother needs to return to the very scarce work force as quickly as possible. While gestating, the embryos are taken care of by a host of specialized doctors, whose role is also to remove any serious genetic illness that could jeopardize the growth of the future children and ensure a proper growth and timely “pregnancy”.  Then, after entering our world they are mostly taken care of by the community: 20 children per couple (or 10 children per person, in case of single parents) is well beyond what the so-called nuclear family, especially in those busy times. While it would be tempting to just feed them automatically and let them grow with minimal involvement, human contact and interaction is emphasized as much as possible with the resources available, androids only used as last resort. It is of paramount importance to get out of the process well adjusted, brilliant, capable and driven citizens, not merely dumb bodies. While parents try to be involved in the lives of their children as much as possible in their free time, they are largely children of Gaia (or at least their local subset).
Schools are the next step, and the most important one. It is almost trivial to make great quantities of babies and while they are young enough to wander off they are easy enough to feed and keep safe. After that, you let them play in non-dangerous areas with cameras and some oversight. But education? Education is paramount. Each of those children has to be a future scientist, engineer, soldier, ruler. Excellence is the only option if we want our society to grow. At the lowest levels we have the incredible ratio of one omni disciplinary teacher every 50 students, making sure that they learn all the basics of science, math, history, geography, ancient media and Gaian society. Then, the ratio of teachers to students decreases and teachers become more focused in specific sectors in universities, where a single professor can teach a subject to several hundred young adults. At all stages, emphasis is set on the ability to work independently and with discipline, taking advantage of the available computer networks and the freely available and highly encouraged tests to self-educate, with the teacher serving mostly an advisory role and as an authority figure. Internships and social work are highly valued by society, being a way to relieve the pressure on the scarce adult population.
Finally, at the end of their education with a degree in hand and the energy of youth, a new generation can start working for the good of Gaia, lending their minds and bodies and preparing immediately to help growing a further generation, 10 times their number.

Childbearing in the capital and in the sparse settlements in the rest of the world has some striking differences. In the capital, a megalopolis of almost 200k inhabitants, the crowded environment means that centralized government facilities are most used: great hospitals for bearing children, vast schools, gardens, recreational and educational facilities of all kinds: the best for the future elite (and roughly a fifth of the population of the planet). This system is quite efficient in terms of manpower, but the involvement of adults with children ends up being more impersonal. All in all, it is not terribly different from what you could find on Earth, except in scale.
In the outlying areas however, the role of raising children falls to the community in a self-organized manner, typical of the small villages and communities of old. Midwives and nurses make a comeback, although without a distinction of gender. In the large countryside it is common to let children gather in some of the larger estates to play and explore together, and classes are held in a less regulated manner, with ad-hoc and personalized teaching more common. Less efficient, but the higher personal involvement has been noted to be beneficial in some ways, forming stronger bonds.

While the target has never been truly achieved due to scarcity of infrastructure or in more recent time a revival of personal parenting, the programme is widely considered a success. Starting from just roughly 5,000 citizens, we became 30,000, then 250,000, then in the middle of the third generation we stand at 900,000, on track to return to the numbers of Earth that was in just 3 or 4 more generations.

Alright, here's my take on it. Aux Quantum Computer is pretty generalized so on a revision I'm not sure if it's going to grant us a discrete bonus. Weapons Bore Director would be much better as a designed module than as a revision, especially seeing as a module could potentially help our non-bore weapons with bores as well. Guillotine Charges would remove the functionality that makes the monowire unique, unless it's a variant, which I'm not sure it would be when done mid-project.

Reversed Polarity allows us to keep that area denial, and to make more effective use of it as well.
BASSN may only provide a small boost but it is focused enough that that boost may well help us out.
