Quote from: Digestive Bio reactor
Producing energy for a bore capable ship is a considerable concern and anything that attempts to provide that energy must have a high output. We must weave something suitable. We will create micro organisms that can disassemble matter into it's constituent energy via specialized organelles that can effect and redirect particles. This is used to pull atoms apart releasing the energy contained in the atomic bonds. The cell walls of these micro organisms lose and reabsorb atoms in a constant shuffle making disassembly hard. We will also create a chamber to harvest this energy. This chamber must also be organic in nature with cells that have cell walls with similar properties to micro organisms the chamber contains.

The end result is expected to be very efficient (70%-80% of the energy of the matter released as energy) however the process of atomic disassembly is projected to be slow. The reactor vessels themselves are expected to be small. The nature of them means that the micro organisms inside them are what are important. This means there should considerable flexibility in the size and shape of these reactors. The reactors are likely going to be considerably inert and safe compared to alternatives. They will not explode nor can they overload. However the micro organisms will slowly disassemble any matter they come across which makes them hazardous. In order to prevent infection and the spread of hazardous micro organisms in the event of a breach or a leak of a reactor vessel the micro organisms are designed to only be able to survive at a particular temperature and pH level that is present inside the reactor vessel.
Edit: Added synthetics to the mix.
Edit Edit: Removed synthetics again

Let us not use Synthetic Particles for something almost every one of our future ships will have, and save the 500 units of particles we get every turn or so be spent on Bore Drives, deadlier weapons, and more specialized processes then the albeit needed ability of powering our ships.

The Thorium Glow Reactor
If you looked at us from the perspective of two centuries before, we would've been in awe of our power, our ability to... Create energy for all our needs.
--Scientist Dela Benoreth

As we reach for the stars once more, it becomes imperative to fuel our growth, our engines and if needs must, our weapons against any hated enemies. To this end, Molten is acquired and utilized in our organic processes to its very fullest, when combined with tissue that is only lives when the radiation is gone, and hibernates in the presence of the deathly particle emissions. These salted Thorium packets emit the particles and material by which the rest of the biosphere of our ship will harvest, utilize and if need be expel to our propulsion systems, providing heat against the cold, electricity for our thirsty bio-capacitors and ultimately a path too greater power generation.

Edit: The reactor either generates power by way of either a series of piezoelectric organs that turn the heat and charged particles of the nuclear output of the reactor into electricity via electromagnetic processes or the power is directly harnessed from the particles and heat conducting conduits that line the ship.

The heat from the thorium reactor is either run through the organic equivalent of a Thermal Electric Generator or through organs that turn heat directly into electricity, It is not needed to be mentioned.

I would always prefer it to be mentioned. Even if the answer is bullshittium, I'd prefer it mentioned.

Did you... intend on posting the lower part of that? I am confused. There is no design progress it seems.

Er, yes? They were at 0 before, and now they've both advanced by two.

Edit: I see the problem. I didn't adequately edit the design phase postscript. You should have been in the revision phase of -6 with 0 dice, basically waiting around for everyone else.

So, carry on voting, and I apologize for the confusion.

I don't like that dice plan much. I think it's much more in our interests to go; (3) new project+ (3) new project + (3) new project + (1) hold for revisions (there's stuff we need to fix with Tele Organs).
Investing too many dice into too few projects last turn was a mistake I think, we need engines, hulls, weapons and a bunch of other stuff and we don't have long to get it. Considering projects auto progress it'll be better to get a bunch of them started I think.

Also in other news I've removed the reference of synthetics from the Digestive Bio Reactor design. You are right that having something so basic use them is a bad idea. I'm still going to vote for my design even if it is a bit more ambitious though, if we can get it working we can open the path to matter assembly which would be fantastic to get early.

Also moar designs

Quote from: Sublight Drive Organ
Our ships must be able to swim in the void. Boredrives can take them from system to system but for sublight swimming we need to weave something new. We suggest a dedicated organ for this purpose. This organ will have two chambers. One will be a chamber where gas is produced and collected. The other chamber will be long and end in an opening into space with a nozzle focusing the exhaust. In this second chamber the gas is energized and the walls of the chamber produce a force that strongly repels the energized gas forcing it out the nozzle into space at high speed. This pushes the ship forward.

Quote from: Grubbling Seeker
We will weave a creatures very being into a weapon system. The Grubbling Seeker is a worm like creature about the length of an adult Liir but considerably narrower. It has a small Sublight Drive Organ that propels it forward. However it does not have much stored energy and cannot keep going for long. If it runs out of energy for the SDO it'll enter hibernation until it encounters a ship. The Grubbling Seeker has capable eyes and an instinct driving it to fly towards and latch on to the closest ship in front of it. The Grubbling Seeker does not have a telepathy organ. Once the Grubbling Seeker attaches to a ship it begins chemically breaking down the ship and metabolizing it. It then begins continually injecting a corrosive chemical into the ship. These corrosive chemicals quickly break down metals, electronics and even organic flesh. In addition the vapors produced by these chemicals are flammable. If a Grubbling seeker is left attached to a ship for a length of time it will break down it's SDO into nutrients and begin laying eggs. Once those eggs hatch they will wriggle to new spots on the ships hull and repeat the process or transfer to nearby ships.

Grubbling Nests are dedicated places on our ships stacked with sleeping Grubbling Seekers. The nest can inject a chemical into them which is the only way to wake them from this particular slumber. Once one has been woken up it will engage it's SDO and fly towards the first ship in front of it. There is an extremely specific protein that if a Gubbling Seeker ingests it will immediately die. This is our failsafe as we can add this protein to the cells of organic ships rendering us immune to our own Grubblings

Adding filters to the Tele Organ in order to remove the pain and suffering of the things being controlled so as to reduce the danger to operators and allow for more things being controlled at once.

We have 6 years to create a viable navy, and possible invasion force.

Having realized that projects auto progress, I still do not feel comfortable placing down three projects a turn, even if they do auto progress.  Not to mention, I am still a little confused on the fact of how we would get the bio-reactor too produce power as it stands right now without synthetic particles because it offends my sense of high-school level physics understanding.  The  SDO and Grubbling Seeker both seem a little under detailed for my tastes as well.

Also, I am not comfortable with your idea of taking out 3 projects every turn. Two products a turn will do us fine enough, three would give us the potential to have very very bad equipment if we roll poorly multiple times.

I think we should spend our six years assembling in order Power,  weapons, a method of propulsion, a method of putting troops onto the ground, the troops themselves, and then a spaced out year for just assembling the ship(s) themselves.

Because I like simple things, I will call this the 7 Year Plan, as we already have C&C down pat.

If you could make something like a moisture suit for our troops/persons and propose a design plan that puts 4 dice into the Thorium Reactor, 4 into the Moisture suit and 2 for revisions, I would gladly change my vote for it.

I want a variant of the thorium reactor, honestly. Have the bacteria be very heat resistant, use radiation for energy, both to fuel the reaction and to be consumed by cleaner cells when they reach the end of their life cycle. The whole chamber is surrounded by a wall of cells that absorb any radiation that got through and turn heat into electricity.

The real Innovation isn't the heat to electricity conversion, though it is important for some parts. Since most of our ships are organic, why bother with electricity at all? The cleaner cells collect the chemical energy stored by the fission cells and pass it through the chamber wall into a nutrient line. This is a high-pressure line that conducts both chemical energy inside the vessel walls, like a blood vessel, and conducts electrical charge through the vessel wall. The vessel cells live off of the electrical current and the whole  system is fed by a nutrient network that keeps the ship fed with essential proteins and nutrients.

Also, for ablative armor: Interstitium

EDIT: We could use the waste thorium particles as transplutonic components in the ship maybe.
