Nerfed it a little by cutting down the numbers it produces. It may need a bit more nerfing but I feel if it gets nerfed much harder it stops being useful for the purpose it was intended and we may need to think up new designs for the problem.

Tri-Tones

The Tri-Tones are a design project intended to modify the gene-seed of future regiments of harmony to imorove our ground combat capabilities.

The project consists of three main designs. First is the Sharp. A brightly colored note, the sharp is similar to a standard note except in the thorax, where a broad shield-like apperatus rests on the back. This apperatus is capable of launching spores containing a gas made to counter visual and electromagnetic sensing methods with a range comprable to that of a note thermal ray.

Second is the Flat, a thickly built burrowing creature with thick armor, strong legs (hydraulicly actuated for maximal power), and with multiple sets of claws, both hard and optimized for digging through thick rock and soil. The Flat can also emit acid from its secondary set of claws as needed for particularly tough minerals.

The Natural nost resembles a note, simply seeming more refined, until you see the Staff. The Staff is a biological laser weapon, with a tripled-density lasing core with an improved power source, the Natural's internal organs driving the cells twice as large internally as before. It also has hardened, optimized lenses. The aim is nerve-linked as before, but notably, the nerve-linked sight is transmitted to nearby notes as well via a small ridge running along the sides of the Natural.

We need to throw some patches on the glaring holes in our armory before we can invest in new stuff. I would suggest 4 revisions so we can do a pair of design next turn.

Atomomancy
[Time: 4 Progress: 3 Cost: 2]

The package from the Watcher is surprising. First, because it's plural - very plural. A dozen heavy crates are provided, along with several steles of indeterminably ancient origin. The steles tell the history of the ebon monks from their own perspective, and the Watchers have taken the liberty of papering the steles in a heavy coat of adhesive yellow squares with haphazard and incredibly dense black lines on them. While it's fairly obvious that the squares are some form of annotation by the Watchers, it defies translation until a bio-sculptor realizes that the markings are a two-dimensional mapping of a neural activation pattern- specifically the neural activation pattern of the portion of the brain responsible for forming images.

In their own peculiar way, the Watchers transformed the Ebon Stele into a picture book of sorts. The ideograms of the Ebon Monks, supported by the Watcher's neural snapshots of mental images, paint a vivid picture of the dead order's day to day life, training regimens, and does much to explain the contents of the crates the Watchers provided.

Those crates are no simple boxes, they're layered display cases. They don't so much open as unfold, displaying dozens upon dozens of glittering gemstones. There are exotically faceted gems as red as blood scatter light like the underside of a great wave, a collection of smaller opaline gems burn with a muted many-colored light that seems peculiarly focused on one side, a raw looking cluster of green gems the size of a heart seems at first opaque when in the air but becomes transparent as glass and slicked with an iridescent layer when viewed beneath the ocean -  and these represent just a tiny part of the collection. While many gems are left unset, resting upon labeled cushions, others have been worked into various ornaments either single or with up to dozens of their peers.

The labels in the displays are a cryptic form of shorthand, one that would be nearly impenetrable without the Ebon steles and the memory images. The Stele explains the atomantic gems are potent things but individually limited in scope. Each gem is mundane crystalline structure that has been, through an esoteric process that once occurred naturally in the deep caves of a world orbiting a dying exotic star, integrally bound with basic entropic forces. Ordinarily, these are the forces that slowly cool our universe. These are the forces by which stone degrades to dust, by which fire flares from the splitting of chemical bonds, and by which crystals grow from stolen heat. In the case of the atomantic gems, however, a peculiar interaction occurred between the crystalline lattice of the gemstone and radiations of the dying star - resulting in atomantic gems that carry a charge of a particular 'type' of entropy. One gem might have the ability to steal heat, another the ability to increase velocity or momentum, still another might be able to reduce electron charge. The size and cutting of the gemstone do a great deal in determining the size and precision with which a particular effect can be channeled, whilst the mountings used by the Ebon monks acted as a sort of memetic key, a physical reinforcement of how to unlock and relock the power of a particular gemstone. The will and intent of the wielder provide the final crucial control over the exact direction of the effect as well as the final intensity.

Each gem has a strict limit on how much of this bottled entropy it can handle, and once its gone, it's gone for good. The gem will crack, burn, or simply dissolve to dust as its charge dissipates, and there's no way that any have found to recharge a gem. Hypothetically, one might be able to grow some form of gem capable of performing the job, but the meta-complexity of such an imbument is mind-boggling.

This limitation requires that Liiran industry be capable of creating and infusing gemstones on its own. The first task, just growing gemstones is a relatively simple process, mildly resource intensive, but doable. Replicating the radiation of the dying exotic star under which the original gems grew, however, is a grand labor. The combined information of the steles and neural notes is enough to paint a broad picture, but it's far from an instruction manual. Each new type of atomantic control is the product of a different resonance between a gem's crystal structure and radiation specifically filtered through the original cavern's mineral structure. By trial and error we will forge ahead, but the invention of new gems may not be as simple a process as one would hope.

Prototype - Nullpoint Armor
[Efficacy: 5] (Without credit: 4)

The gem to be successfully imbued and mass-produced consists of conchoidally fractured marekanite, dark beads of glassy obsidian that seem to consume more light than they reflect. Four our purposes, each bead is cut so that it can be socketed into a barnacle-like control form, which itself is then suitable for affixment into the hull of any of our vessels. These gems, referred to as Nullpoint gems, have the ability to normalize the velocity of two atomic structures without creating acceleration. In essence, if the gem is in a fixed position and a projectile is fired at it, the gem can halt the projectile in midflight without either undergoing the effects that such an immediate deacceleration would normally cause. The gem will lose energy relative to the velocity normalized, but it's an efficient process that allows a single gem of good size to perform a number of operations before it requires replacement.

The initially change of velocity requires the most energy from the gemstone, while simply holding something in position requires much less. Additionally matter that enters an existing nullpoint field will also be normalized and held. Unfortunately, this field is not penetrative, so whatever is inside the targeted object is free to move normally. An object that struggles to move and thrust in the field will degrade the gem faster, and containing things like explosions will take an exceptional toll on the gems.

For the Nullpoint armor system, the gems used are roughly a foot in diameter and the control barnacles are placed all across the surface of the hull to be protected. The faceting type of the gemstone allows for a variable field of effect from a 1-meter radius sphere out to a 25-meter radius sphere, and can cast out to a distance of a few hundred meters. This allows the Nullpoint armor to intercept and catch projectiles that make it through primary point defense and rob them of their velocity, an action which is hopefully enough to nullify their danger or at least give point defense enough time to target the threat before it re-accelerates and reaches the hull. While it may sometimes be a necessity, such as to intercept continuous beam weapons, it's not recommended to keep the gems in constant operation, as it's usually a more efficient use of their limited life to quickly engage them, normalize the target, and then disengage them. Once a field is engaged it will move with the gemstone, but cannot otherwise be moved by any signal to the gem.

A given nullpoint armor system consists of dozens of the gems, placed across the hull for even coverage. Additional armor layers don't thicken, they add more redundant gemstones to the matrix in order to provide overlapping coverage.

Nullpoint Armor: | 100T + 300M + 100E + 20S | Capacity -3 | Several dozen atomantic gems of conchoidally fractured marakanite, with attached control organisms that allow them to be socketed into the hull or armor layer of any spacefaring vessel and network to the psionic control system. Each gem is capable of projecting velocity normalization field up to three hundred meters distant, with a field size of between 1 and 25 meters. Anything caught in the field will have its velocity normalized to that of the gem, with an energy expenditure on the gem's part scaling with change in velocity. No acceleration is undergone by either during this normalization.

Alright let's get the revisions started. Let's begin with fixing up our railgun-things going through the battle report 4/5's of the rounds made it through the flak screen albeit greatly drained. Only to be stopped by the bore shields. Now part of this was the foes greater number but, we need someway to at least reduce the amount lost to bore shields and increase thee spine batteries so they can make use of that info. Also short ranged super pd.

Spine Psionic Field Projection.
To create something born of hate only is already a great sin. To see the said creation have it's venom wasted a horrific failure we will do better, we must. The Psionic nature of the spine already gives them some merger psionic sense one which we can improve. The newly modified mind creates an extremely weak psionic field around it. Although the field too weak to detect impairments like lasers or flak in all but the most technically of ways, ripping open the fabric of reality is anything but subtle. In order to make proper use of this knowledge the mind's intelligence has been improve in the most minor of ways, while detestable it is needed. We expect some loss of lifespan but, it is better to lose some spines from running out of life then, nearly all from bore shields.

Spine Nutrient Improvements
The gulf of space is vast and the life of our spines is oh so short. There is no joy in giving them more time to suffer but, our foes forced this action from us. The 'marrow' of the spine has being altered in order to pack more energy in it. Further more a small amount of chemical cocktail designed to for a short time defeat the build up of toxic chemicals as been added. The combo of these simple improvement gives our spine a modest increase in their lifespan.

Maelstrom Eye
The maelstrom launcher may have failed to meet our hopes but, we can still make use of what we have. The Maelstrom Eye is designed to fit in a small slot and is made up almost completely of the mind of a maelstrom spine albeit massively larger. This action sidesteps many of the flaws of the launcher. It's lack of intelligence and sensorial ability is made up for by the ship it's bound to. Now fed by the ship only energy supply it's duration has been notably improved although still limited. While still pound for pound somewhat weak it's sheer bulk part makes up for this. The only other modification made is a alteration of the field to project it away from the ship. Even then the harrowing field still harmlessly 'sandblasts' the ship armor from time to time. While it's range is extremely short, anything smaller then a corvette that dares to enter will be ripped apart in the blink of an eye.

I think adding a better manuvering method to the SPFP to use the better detection will be really useful, and if the Maelstrom eye range is too short it might be smarter to use inspiration from the mind jummer and make it Omni directional and not take a mount, but besides that it looks good.

Focused Rage

As we have seen, the psionic spines are easily picked off by bore-shields. To prevent this, and to aid in dodging point defense, the spines will now exude a psionic field in a narrow cone ahead of them to detect spatial anomalies and small missiles. The spine can then steer to avoid these, as it dislikes them.

Lore WIP

Long ago, we were slaves.

That time is no more. Long ago, we swam free from our chains, and unleashed something truly terrible upon the galaxy. Most of our kin fled for home, burning all they met in their wake. We were chosen for something different. Chosen from military labs, brute work, and slaving complexes, we tore our captors apart with the [Song of Force and Movement], and vanished.

We would only re-appear once [The Cleansing] had spread. The furthest reaches of the empire saw the first of our stolen fleets appear, fresh from its [healing], the artificial skin still marked with scars from our escape. The [Land of Glow and Argon] was the first victim of our crucial purpose. It looked so dark from the void, the natural luminescence that was once so beautiful now dark, perhaps forever. An orbital station had survived, and noted our presence, an audio transmission coming over the old communication equipment. The Coordinator responded, singing to the translation creature. [State your alliance.] came the garbled output. Time passed.

[We are remnants of the planet below. Do you carry supplies, and is transit available.]

The Coordinator sang annoyance, and sang to the translator again. [State your allegiance. Are you former colleagues of the Liir.]

[We are a former military garrison. We quarantined before the fire swept through. Supplies are low. Please send help.]

By this time, the sweep of the station had concluded. A swimmer was sent out on a pisonic rider.

Silence reigned. The Conductor entered a trance.

The swimmer returned, softly humming completion.

The station came back online. A harsh screech echoed through the microphone, followed by a muffled explosion, and the Conductor woke up from the trance. The artificial ship slowly closed in on the quiet station, and the liir donned their land-suits. the airlocks mated, and the liir swept through and into the quiet light. The station was mostly empty, as they walked the halls and listened to the environment for signs of life with their song.

Note Vey’nol scanned the environment, the lights bright through her protective visor, the water sloshing lightly as her mecha “walked” with the aid of his song and some rudimentary controls. listening to the environment, the gentle waves of psionics permeating the ship, reflecting off of hard metal and dense plastic furniture, dancing across the pools of blood from the fallen crew. The long-range scans had revealed no more than 200 former Suul’Ka, with a few slave races scattered among their number. The purple blood of the captors spilled across the non-slip floor of the station, the artificial gravity flickering to the sound of internal grinding. Nestled in a supply closet up ahead, Vey’nol noticed a life-form. Gently opening the door, she ducked the suit back as a former bond-colleague tumbled out, their tall form unfolding as the door to their hiding place breaking open. Reaching out with the song, she held them in place while they tried to escape, pointing to their view visor at the time. It took some time for them to calm down, so Vey’nol waited, motioning her chord forward.

It took some time, but all beings were accounted for. Vey’nol dragged the mutilated body of yet another Suul’ka into the pile in the mess hall, though they were missing two limbs that could not be accounted for. The salvage teams were already picking apart the consoles for parts. Vey’nol looked up from her work and moved to stand in front of her former bond-mates. taking a translator being from a chordmate, she spoke, the language garbled with both biology and distaste for the language of the captors. [we are the Bela’no’Liir. You are lucky to be here today. We know that you may feel dismay, but know that we have a new life in store. Come with us, and see the dead worlds with us, then be free to go. Renegades we already have, but you can join them, and go far away from this place.]

As the survivors left the station to enter the Incubation room, Vey’nol swam in her thoughts, listening intently. this was her third stop, and she was already tired of the death around her. They were a species of life, were they not?

But then again, the captors had fallen. All was not lost. Va’Laara would rebuild, in time. And at the instant, cleaning up the distoriton of their actions was more important than the thoghts of a single note in the song. Lazily waving a tentacle through the water in the suit, she tuned back into the Song of her ship, the soft melodies sad and drifting, memories of The Horror and the escape accompanying the songs of hope, and spreading the immunity to the rest of the galaxy.

Quote from: Mind Jammer Focusing Upgrade
The current version of the mind jammer is at best a mild annoyance to psionic foes and may potentially be ineffective against the gaians. It needs a major overhaul in order to fulfill it's function. Firstly we need to increase it's output and it's potency, for this lessons can be learned from the spine launcher rounds. Pouring similar quantities of emotion into the minds of our enemies may be very effective. We should modify the mind jammer to besiege the enemy with hostile emotions of such intensity that all other thoughts are eclipsed. Further more the mind jammer would likely be more effective if it was concentrated on a single area. Its current wide area of effect diffuses its effectiveness somewhat. So by limiting the area and focusing it's effects we can increase its effects. Instead of a wide area we will project its effect in a narrow cone towards the enemy.

I like that lore Doomblade, tis very nice.

Modified the "Murder" Frostgiant suggested to add 2 boarding apperatieses.

And my version for increase detection of spines
Quote from: Guide spine
The guide spine is a new ammo type to the spine luncher and can br mixed with the ordinary type, with it need to destroy replaced with it need for safe passege, the spine sends forwards echos of his song and hear it changes, similer to the way the pulse detector works just more in a cone shape farwards and with much smaller range of a few kilometers farward, with the addtion the psionic waves cause cheotic forces forward of it, making the creation of bore-holes in the area harder.

Also the ability to recognise and follow a guide is added to the other spines

Since the boarding tentacles could, if damaged, become unusable, we can connect them to the Vala'Crenka's regenrative system, allowing them to regenerate rapidly after damage.
