Found a pile of 'treasure' by my fort
« on: May 09, 2018, 12:02:39 pm »

Also on this spot were 3 Caged Yaks which were still alive.

They weren't present at embark and I'm less than a year through.
The only odd thing that happened before this was that a human caravan turned up and then walked halfway to my fort before deciding to leave.

That's exactly what it is, a scuttled human wagon. Something scared them off (probably a wild animal) and they dropped everything they had in the wagon into the ground.

If you want the stuff, 'd' 'b' 'c' it and use whatever method you want to start moving it, with getting the food stored and getting the grazers out of the cages as the priority. I often create a food stockpile at that tile and set it to give to my main stockpile, so the food does not rot but is also transferred.

I'm curious if you're able to use that stuff. I've had occasional trouble with nervous merchants dropping their goods, and then the ownership flag doesn't change, so I can't move them.

The ownership flag seems to change soon after the merchants are completely gone (they cannot be stuck at the edge of the map). If the items are not my fort's yet, I just make the food stockpile (links only and giving to the main stockpile) and eventually notice the items have moved.

It was all brought into the fort nice and easy once I un-forbid it.

Still a bit weird because it wasn't where the caravan entered/left the map.
Not even close.

This happened to me in my game too just recently. The really strange thing was that the outpost liason arrived crawling with a bruised spine, I believe he may have suffocated and his death spooked the caravan.

With his dying breath, he delivered the loot parcel. What a hero!
