Tribute conditions?
« on: May 02, 2018, 05:17:52 pm »

Does anyone know what is taken into account when you ask a site for ongoing tributes? Is it how impressive the squads are that you send out, or does the site know about your fort/military/Wealth? does it in anyway take into account if you won other wars before asking for tribute?

I don't think anyone knows yet, except Toady. The raiding system is quite recent, and there are a lot of unaswered questions about it. You can help the cause by trying different raids and recording the results. I've started a thread just about xp boosts from raids. We can use this thread to compare notes about tribute.

My first questions: Does a successful tribute demand end a war? And is the tribute gained related to what's lying around in the civ's capital?

Toady answered this one before. You can't demand tribute from a civ you're at war with (right now). It's a demand for tribute with a threat of war. If you send a tribute squad to someone you're at war with, it automatically starts a regular fight.

Later there'll be ways to stop wars, but it's not in yet.

-- Edit
Dammit. Elven winter tribute just turned up and the bastards did a hello-goodbye. They're gone and no giant ostriches for dinner. Gonna have to burn them for that.

Genocide might end a war.

Good luck with that. Unless you're playing a really low pop world tailor-made to be vulnerable to death-by-dwarf squad, it's not likely. Proper armies seem to be coming soon too though so that might help.

I like a challenge. On my medium map, destroying an entire civilization seems practical. I've got 100 legendary dwarves. Destroying an entire race would be a megaproject.

You may be able to destroy all civs originating for a particular race, but to murder all individuals you'll probably have to wipe out all other civs (and if you're not playing an actual dead civ you may have the issue of having members of the targeted race being members of your civ in sites you're not controlling, so you may have to kill off your own civ as well...

I was kinda hoping to kill enough elves and goblins to move to reach a new age, but I'm not sure exactly what that'll take.
