So... I'm not sure where I got this from, as I haven't traded with the elves for years, but the game appears to be designating a rock cabinet as being :grown":

Grown here means the decorations are grown. "Grown XXX" and "<<Grown XXX>" are different but can be combined and shown as the latter (both the base item and the decorations would be grown.)

So the elves left a marble cabinet in the mouldy cave, let the roots take hold, then extracted it and sold to dwarves at a premium? Because I don't know how to grow decorations otherwise.

They "grew" wood on the tree then decorated the cabinet with it. The cabinet itself is not grown and probably stolen or traded for by dwarves somewhere since elves cannot mine.

Quite possibly. I believe things not showing up properly as loot in raids has been an ongoing thing these past few patches.

Did they ever stop? As far as I know they (and others) bring logs when your stock is below some threshold.

Last I checked the wiki mentioned that the elves only very rarely actually do

In my current fortress in 44.09, I have gotten grown logs from elven caravan three years in a row so far.

With 43.nn, I had two forts where my pre-embark objectives included cutting no trees and bringing no logs. In both forts, all caravans brought wood.
