You are not quite sure when it happened. It may have been gradual, over many weeks. It may have been sudden, less than a heartbeat. All you know is that you are alive. You have no memories of before.

It is dark. You are warm and comfortable. A constant humming, pulsing sound can be heard.

Groping around in the darkness, you are able to bring your arms together. You can confirm that you have arms. Two of them in fact! Some similar fidgeting confirms that you also have two legs. Seems like everything is where it should be.

The world seems to have gotten brighter as well. Through blurry eyes you see a dim orange light. You think the humming noise might have changed too, but you aren't sure.

You punch yourself in the face. It hurt. Combined with nothing else changing, you're pretty sure this isn't a dream. Your jaw aches now.

You start working your legs back and forth. Yup, they definitely seem to be functioning okay. There's a slight problem in that you don't seem to have a solid surface to walk on though. You appear to be suspended somehow.

Scream as loudly as possible

You open your mouth, ready to release the most earsplitting cry you can muster. For some reason, nothing comes out. No sound, no breath even. Should you be concerned by this?

The bright spot has grown larger, almost to the point of engulfing you. If you look left you can see nothing but orange. If you look right, nothing but darkness. The sounds have also shifted now. The humming has changed to a lower note, and there seems to be some sort of high-pitched melodic noise in the background as well.

You reach down. Attached to your naval is a cord. Soft and warm like everything else around here, it extends beyond your reach.

You watch as the orange glow extends to surround your entire world. Everything shakes, and then the humming stops. All you can hear is that pulsing noise, the melodic tune and your own heartbeat.

Suddenly, on the side where the orange light first appeared, a rip appears in the edge of your world. It widens, revealing a kaleidoscope of bright colours. A pair of dull, grey objects, long and thin, intrude into your home before widening the rip further. You feel yourself being drawn towards the rip, as if it was sucking you towards it.
