I would say nightwings if they werent nonsentient and also werent jerks. I guess dwarves, I've always had an affinity for big constructions, anachronistic mechanisms (geothermally powered speed-smelter... in the 1050s?), and workers in general... althuogh their leadership system still leaves much to be desired.

Elephants. Because they strike fear into the hearts of other races, and I feel like somewhere, somehow, there is a highly advanced Elephant civilization.

Dwarves do it all wrong, too. Their castles are all inverted, underground and silly. By leading a human nation, I hope to show them the light of building up, closer to the sun and the skies - by military force if I have to. But I doubt it.
