I've searched all across these forums, and for some reason I haven't found this suggestion yet. If it exists, please kindly point it out to me, and I'll delete this post. But I find it frustrating and unfortunate that all these characters I put so much effort into fall victim to things such as infection, permanently broken bones slowing them down, and organ damage. Maybe allow NPC's with medical experience to help you recover? Or allow created characters to learn first aid skills? Adventure mode is almost pointless unless (for some reason) you wish to avoid battles.

Dev notes. Planned for current release arc.
http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/dev.html

- Adventurer military improvements
   - Medical improvements

Expanded on in Future of the Fortress a few days ago:

"Adventurers can't currently do anything, pretty much, but hope not to die; no splints, stopping bleeding, etc., and there is nobody to help them, even medical professionals that already exist in forts/towns can't help them.  We'd like to start down a road of getting that toward fort standards.  This process might have effects on the fort, as adventure mode work tends to put a microscope on dodgy systems, but there are no particular fort plans in advance for that particular dev item."

Not everything will make it. But the fact that it's at the top of the dev notes means it's planned and doesn't need suggesting.

Specifics on how it could be better implemented are great of course.

I added a bunch of information to my reply. Best to have all the info in one place. Doesn't really need deleting.

I think there's a fair amount more that could be added to the discussion of medical care in Adventurer.

For example, I propose that if any fortress style medical care becomes available to adventurers, Fast-Travel healing, besides trivial bruises, needs to be nerfed completely. Bleeding to death in the wilderness with no medical supplies or nearby doctor? Tough, it's a hard world.

What if an adventurer could make thread from reeds at a lake for temp stitches or cut up clotes to make bandaging to stem bleeding wounds until they can seek better medical attention?

Yeah, that would be nice. What skill would cover it? Do we need a new 'Wilderness Survival' skill (or even skills specializing in survival in different biomes)?
