Like all those locked rooms that people keep dying in by shooting themselves in the back of the head despite not having a gun.

If I had never seen a giraffe in person, I would probably think they were an AI attempt to create an animal.

Same. But have you seen Sacabambaspis? Now that is an animal that looks fake.

We're living in the matrix, and giraffes are the proof. Also, polydactyly.

Who would have thought letting giraffes exist would be the biggest glitch in the Matrix.

Why am I toxic? Because it was inevitable. This is such bullshit. Propose help I must bang all the things simultaneously I must flee the hideous effect your communication has on my attention. Ok then, I'll go. 5 minutes later and a peak inrush current later, oh can you please do the thing so I can go shower (THAT IS PRECISELY WHAT I oFFERED I AM SRY My PRESENCE OFFENDS YOU), we must have the cooking stove and the hairdryer and your computer running concurrently for nothing, inflict a tiny amount of wear on the complex wiring above, FOR AbSOLUTELY NOTHING WE DONT DO SHIT THE THINKING PEOPLES WAY AROUND HERE.... Yeah yeah it'd be a pedant to point out the concerns that come to my mind, couldn't be that was my maladjusted way of begging for something else to do to stretch the time before I go to my computer.

There never was any hope for me, it was over before it began.

Ball Lighting.

Wild stuff.  Plasma scientists still can't figure out what it is, or even if it possibly several different phenomena all called the same thing.

I'm re-reading the Red Mars trilogy for the first time in I think four, maybe five years?

I'm realising now just how influential it's been in the development of my political views and my cynicism towards structures of power, especially corporate power.

It's funny, I've been reading through the Cyberpunk RED source book and if anything, I'm finding the trilogy even more cynical about humanity than the Cyberpunk setting, even though the cyberpunk genre's supposed to be very cynical in general.

I've never got to reading the sequels. How do they compare with the first?

Not as good, by Blue Mars it's dragging on. Green Mars is interesting in a politicky way, trying to foment a Martian revolution, implement a whole new economic system, some of the terraforming stuff, exploration of the Transnat NWO, but it doesn't capture like Red Mars does.

Blue Mars just... I dunno, it's like KSR did what he wanted in the first two books then realised he couldn't just finish with "And then the revolution happened the end". Or maybe I prefer the underdog story and the post-revolution society's not really got that at all.

Although the hard scifi concepts are interesting if only for the uniqueness of how well researched they are. It mostly holds up, that which doesn't is generally because the concepts are 30 years old and science has marched on. The softest bit is probably that terraforming only takes 200-250 years.

I'm moving back towards an increasing cynicism, I think. I'm still an optimist, I tend to look on the bright side in personal stuff, but I've become increasingly disillusioned with humanity as a whole.

On the bright side, it's making me angry in a "how do I fix this?" way. I won't fix t, because I can't, but maybe I can do something to help.
