E, alone, so that we can keep an eye on him. Actually, no, with a squad. Best to have some protection.

Then, A. Force him to kneel.
Bubol the Mad stepped in front of you and growled, drawing forth a rusty ladle from his belt. You place a hand at his shoulder and restrain him.
“I will handle him.”
Bubol narrows his eyes, but steps aside willingly. You glance at the rusty ladle in his hands with a raised eyebrow. He grins and shows the handle, which is sharpened into a mean spike. He chuckles, “They never see it coming, my lord.” He slips the ladle back next to his notched sword.

You study the challenger in front of you. Orcs in general are uncomplicated. Soft words hold little sway over them, but a confident approach would work wonders.
Striding forward, your voice lashes out,

“YOU. WILL. KNEEL. “

Yep, you got the volume, the tone, the incantation of each syllable just right. As if the orc’s strings have been cut he drops to his knees. He stares at you in wonder and fear, and bows his head, his body shaking. You walk past him, and the gate opens ahead of you.

Past crude stone huts and pits you walk, and crowds of warriors stare at you. Emotions of fear and excitement run rampant. They wonder if they will be punished for their betrayal, and if indeed you are the returned Dark Lord.

Jortha stands before you now, a great maul in his hands. His face is impassive, but his mind churns. He is full of anger that you took so long, fear that you will punish him, and amazement that you have returned. He needs something or someone he can believe again, and a part of him hopes that it is you.

What do you do?
A. Embrace him with open arms. Play off if his desire for something worthy of devotion, and grant forgiveness for past crimes. This may upset those who have stayed loyal for so long
B. Shame him, tear down his sense of pride. Make him beg for a chance to serve you. Might cause some resentment, but loyalists will probably appreciate, and might encourage other tribes to quickly offer their loyalty before you come to them.
C. Order Jortha’s own bodyguards to strike him down. This will punish him for his insolence, and make an example for the other tribes.
D. Something else? These options are not necessarily optimal, just some of the clear routes and maybe one or two less obvious options.

C, but only if we can see a loyalist orc able to lead his warband.

Otherwise B.

Otherwise B.
I say that we say C, but stop them before they actually kill him. Then we phase into kind of a halfway point between B and A that appeals to force and our own leadership, without completely breaking him.

You approach Jortha. Your face stern, you condemn him for his failings, for his rebellion against you. You turn to his bodyguards and you draw their names from their mind. Your voice lashes out, commanding the warriors Rog and Daz to kill Jortha. There’s a moment of stunned silence, then they burst into motion.

Jortha swings his hammer up, blocking the first strike from Daz, his sword sending up sparks. He spins and smashes his hammer into Daz’s knee, sending him to the ground with a cry of pain. Rog’s spear lunges and pierced Jortha’s shoulder.

“STOP.” You command. They all freeze. Rog slowly pulls his spear out of Jortha’s shoulder.
“My Will is law. My Word is commandment. You live and die at my wish.”
 You lean forward.
“Now you will serve me, or die. “

Jortha clears his throat.  “I will serve, my lord.”  He then turns and smashes Rog’s head in with a swing of his hammer. He then pummels the body with several vicious blows. He wipes his face of blood, “For his betrayal, sir,” he growls. You nod. Fair is fair.

With that all cleared up, you suppose you should begin to decide your policy for your new subjects. Do you wish for:

A. The tribes shall remain somewhat independent, and give you command of their military units and resources, but maintain their chiefs and forts.

B. The tribes will break down and unify into one group, centered at your fortress. Forts can be maintained as garrisons, but not tribal homes.

C. Something else?

Soon chiefs will come to meet you, will you greet them at your fortress or at Jortha’s camp?

Gained Jortha’s camp, +10 warbands, primitive birthing vat.

You return to your fortress, at your back more than a thousand orcs loyal to you. Sardonk is pleased by your success, but is angered by the sight of Jortha at your side. You see an old grievance binding the two together, a rusty chain coiled around your Seneschals heart. You don’t sense any murderous intent yet, so you move on.

The Chiefs of 3 other tribes soon arive with your returning envoys. First is Xomkug, with 4 warbands.
Zartha, your resolute captain, returns with Gnurl, leader of 12 warbands.
And finally, your captain Pavlock (who didn’t make too much of an impression on you at first, but you now detect an undercurrent of cunning running through his mind) brings forth Gort, leader of 8 warbands.

Word comes from the last, largest tribe from a few deserters. They have defied your claim as their master, and have captured your envoy, the ambitious captain Agronak. The tribe, calling themselves the Torncloaks, camp in the hills north of your fortress. They have around 15 warbands. Your captains are outraged and ask that they be allowed to take your forces and crush them. The chiefs newly sworn to you scoff and say that they deserve the honor of destroying the the Torncloaks and their chief, Wrukag. Your captains feel that they should be rewarded for their loyalty, and the chiefs be given a quick death instead of promoted. The Chiefs obviously feel otherwise.

A. Loyalist captains promoted to generals, chiefs executed. You predict only opposition from new captains, as their place remains unchanged and their is little love between orcs and their superiors. It may make negotiations more difficult however.

B. Chiefs, due to their experience and familiarity with command, are made your generals. Loyalists will very much dislike this.

C. Something else?

Also, do you desire to lead in dealing with the Torncloaks, or focus on something else?

A. Lead reunification with the rebel orcs.

B. Give command to one of your commanders and focus on developing youmagic, strategy, or something else (Write in who you give command to)
.

C. They will all have the chance to prove themselves, and they will be promoted on merit alone. That said, loyalty is a merit. The result: the loyalists have a leg up on the chiefs, but they will definitely have to work to earn their spot. We reserve the right to swap out any general for a competitor at a moment's notice.

Then, B, although in an alternate way: the loyalist captains and chiefs will each have a group to command, with the total force being equivalent to 20 warbands. They will all be going, and we will pass judgement on their merit when they return. One thing they must remember, however: their goal is to bring this tribe back into the fold with as few casualties as possible, on both sides.

We will remain here, and develop our magic.

C, Use your power and give a speech about how you have no need for petty feuds and disagreements running amok between your army and insist that they will all have chance as based on campagian lead, those who earn merits shall be reward while those who disobey shall taught lesson in why they failed, and any who tries to sabotage another chance will face punishment.

A, you will show up at front of battle and help out by giving speech and inspiring your troops, but the battle will be left up to all chiefs and captains shall each lead similar amount of warbands for this fight, tell each of warband leaders to focus on dealing least amount of causality as possible.
