Have character, will waitlist. I don't know anybody on this game (which happens when I leave the RTD scene for about 4 years, hello anyone who recognizes me); but hey, maybe I'll get to know everyone before long.
Name: Castel "The Sharp" Veiimar (Cas-stel Vei-i-mar)
Gender: Female
Appearance: Castel appears to be a fairly muscled, very attractive young human woman (age 20), with shoulder-length brown hair, fair skin, and unusual ruby-red irises. She wears a slightly form-fitting leather armor, with a steel right shoulder pauldron, and a steel plate on her right elbow and forearm. Surrounding the leather armor is a wolf-pelt coat, and she wears a Cavalier hat with a blue feather (a type of wide-brimmed hat). Aside from the longsword strapped on her back, she often also has a heater shield on her back or in her left hand, along with a dagger strapped to her left waist, and a dirk strapped on her left shoulder. She seems to almost always carry a neutral expression.
Biography: Castel is the second daughter (and fourth child) of a relatively unknown count, Count Ferdinian Veiimar. Castel's mother is disputed; she is not the daughter of Ferdinian's wife Amelia, and there are two possible interpretations to who her mother is. This is because her father, Ferdinian, is known to have flights of fancy, wherein he goes off adventuring (temporarily abandoning his quiet county), often with few or no retainers with him. Castel was born during one of these adventuring trips, and according to Ferdinian, Castel is the daughter of an "encounter" with an attractive ruby-eyed witch that he'd manage to seduce with his "truly remarkable roguish charm." This also explains, Ferdinian argued, why Castel is so boyish in her mannerisms, because according to the witch, she could only give birth to girls despite whatever soul ended up being in the body; in other words, he suggested that Castel is a man's soul in a woman's body. The other possible interpretation, of course, was that Ferdinian just had an encounter with a prostitute or a random peasant. Ferdinian and the retainers who followed him on that particular adventure support the first interpretation, while his wife Amelia and many others support the latter... though, the latter noticeably does not have any explanation for Castel's very unusual ruby eyes. Regardless, she was adopted begrudgingly by Amelia.
Castel had a troubled childhood: Amelia, her adoptive mother, tried to teach her the ways of a noble woman; but Castel never seemed to truly have shown much interest in feminine mannerisms, so their relationship, although not negative, was always tense. Instead, Castel showed unhealthy interest in her father and his adventuring days, to a level which made her more favored by her father than her half-brothers were favored. Her father had her tutored in swordplay at age 9, much to the displeasure of Amelia. This was expanded to full-on fighting and adventure training at age 11.
Castel's teenage and early adulthood years were even more troubled. She had, much to the displeasure of Amelia and her older half-sister, developed a very rough personality: she was fairly cynical, spoke fairly plainly, preferred her humor dry, and was not afraid to voice her displeasure at things. She also showed little (if any) interest in marrying anyone. However, despite this, she was not really particularly hostile or cruel, just extremely frank. When Castel was 17, this resulted in Amelia secretly proposing marrying Castel to a duke's son, behind Ferdinian and Castel's back, for she hoped that a marriage would help "settle Castel down," much as it had with her own full biological daughter. The duke, for his part, found Castel very exotic for her ruby eyes, and accepted. Needless to say, when Castel found out when the duke and his son came over, she threw a fit and nearly harmed her adoptive mother, in addition to giving very sharp retorts to attempts by the duke and his son to convince her to marry. The marriage attempt failed.
This event would prove to be the final straw: Castel would try to sneak away from her home and go adventuring; but she would be caught by her father while doing so. Her father, however, was actually strangely pleased by this more than he was distressed, and decided to support his daughter: he gave her equipment and sent Irand--one of his knights who had followed Ferdinian on several of his adventuring trips prior--with Castel in order to tutor her while she was off adventuring. Castel would spend the next 3 years rather quickly learning how to be an adventurer, gaining experience as well as skill in her sword-fighting, and making a name for herself: She would become known to some as "The Sharp" for both her swordplay, and for her harsh mannerism which often takes most employers by surprise. Along the way, she also started practicing with a sling when some annoying bandit pinned her down by riding a horse around in a field and shooting at her with a bow and arrow, at least until some "knight in shining armor" saved her; and she vowed that she would do her best to never let that happen again. Just 1 year ago, she sent Irand back home, for she believed that she was ready to adventure on her own; and she was.
Equipment: Leather armor with steel pauldron and plates; steel heater shield; steel longsword; steel dagger; steel dirk; a backpack; medium-length sling /w 10 small lead sling-bullets; 2 day's rations and water; bedroll; stylish Cavalier hat with a blue feather; 3 simple bandages; 4 gold, 11 silver coins.
Yes, I wrote a lot for a character that might die in a few turns. But hey, writing the character's half the fun. For reference, Castel is supposed to be a melee character, balanced between being able to take a few hits and agility, with a small amount of skill in using a sling for when charging in or tanking would be dumb. She's also ignorant in a fair few things (life of a count's daughter, there), but not actually intellectually dumb.
Just as a note, I may or may not edit this as I see the game progress. Will note if there are changes.
Oh, hey, that's neat. I suppose that means that if anyone at any time wishes to get tips on how not to suck, Castel will be around to give them common sense.
