I like grenades but bows work two so I flipped a coin and got bows! I also thought about selectively breeding the Aetekos for bravery and other desirable traits but maybe that's not what we need right now.

Working on a submission for the event this turn (remember there's an event this turn);

Quote
Why do we Atlanteans deserve to rule these lands, you ask? Simple: we are a superior people. By our benevolent rule, your lives may be improved as you learn our ways. Heed this praise of Atlantis, and know that it speaks true:

Oh, fair Atlantis! What wonderous things hail from your fair shores. Such wisdom, such grace, such might & beauty! Is there in all the world a more blessed isle?
We sing your praises for days, yet ne'er come close to cataloguing your many virtues. You are the pinnacle of civilisation, the brilliance of man made manifest upon the earth!
Let us speak briefly, then, of that which makes you greatest- the great saints and their works.
The Poet- oh, but such poetry as is produced in Atlantis brings tears to the eyes of the gods, such is the mastery of rhyme and meter found upon these isles. All the world's music is but pale imitation of that which plays in your amphitheatres.
The Physician- he who holds mastery over the gods' greatest creation: the body of man. He banishes those diseases and ailments unleashed by fools upon the world, knowing the workings of the flesh like none without could dream of.
The Farmer- is it not said that the foundation of life, the humble farmer, was borne forth from the bosom of the Atlantean isles? That it was here, in the most verdant paradise, that man first commanded the grains and fruits of the wild to bend to his will?
The Philosopher- for where others consider themselves too far beneath the gods to dare question the workings of the world, the denizens of Atlantis know that the gods made the world in order that man might explore it, and this they do with great wisdom, uncovering mysteries and truths through unceasing thought.
The Magician- indeed, the very powers of the gods are not beyond the reach of your children, as they work miracles from that greatest of gifts, Orichalcum.
The Architect- whilst others built huts from mud and straw, upon these hallowed shores, great temples already arose clad in marble and gold, and wherever they go, Atlanteans erect great monuments that leave lessers awestruck.
The Soldier- clad in glowing armour, the armies of Atlantis rid the land of evil, with great skill in arms, each man capable of taking on a dozen foes. None can stand before their spears, not even the greatest warriors of legend.
The Sailor- by the grace of your patron Poseidon, Atlantean vessels have sailed every corner of the great sea, and even passed through Hercule's gate, and in so doing have brought together the disparate tribes of men.
And many more besides.
Truly, the elders of Atlantis are far-seeing visionaries, under whose benevolent rule the world shall be lifted up to great heights. Thus, let us rejoice and let us sing and dance and ring in the new Atlantean Empire~
Hail Atlantis!

A note on the men who hail from the land of the Nile- though they masquerade as an advanced peoples, in truth they are but slaves to false gods, who do not understand the powers they wield. Atlantean greatness is the work of man, Egyptian "greatness" is the work of false gods. Their 'alien' works must be destroyed, such that their peoples may be reborn as followers of the true gods, who build their own works with mortal hands. They might claim to have overthrown their masters, but they continue to use their heretical works, and build temples to them- once a slave, always a slave.
The theme being self-praise bordering on heretical, as befits Atlantis's prophesied end when they offend the gods by refusing to pay proper tribute to them. I imagine Atlanteans as being proud of their isle and its works to a degree that would really irk outsiders if it wasn't for the fact that Atlantis really is miles ahead of the rest of the world- perhaps not to the extent that they allege, but still.
The message to the world being: we deserve to rule you because we are just that good, as evidenced by this list of our accomplishments. Also, egypt sucks cos all their stuff is just cribbed offa aliens.

A note about this revision: the method you proposed for decomplexing is... misguided. Composite bows don't have that many layers, glueing metal to bone and wood is a pain and in the end I see no way for that to work the way you wanted.  The revision as posted still follows that train of thought, but to results slightly different than what you hoped for. It is a sad fact that it was noticed late, but it is not within my duties to actively police your proposals. Regardless, you rolled well and still got some boons for it.

Aesystrofi's Bow: Okay, so, that could've gone better. No matter. The principle is sound... ish. Whilst we don't now have the time to both develop a working recipe for spring-Orichalcum and develop a brand new siege weapon, we should be able to manage the first. Instead of applying it to a Poliánthion, we can simply replace some of the layers in our composite bows with the new alloy. As the Orichalcum can hold more energy than bone or wood, this will mean fewer layers are required to reach the same level of strength, making manufacture substantially easier.

(Normal)(3+2)=5 Average

The spring alloy was unstable, but promising. While there is no hope to design a ballista in time, you still attempt to stabilize it, so that it could be implemented in bows to simplify the manufacturing, avoiding for the moment the complexity of designing a whole new mechanism.

Orichalcum responds well to the new treatments and the spring alloy is finally born as an useful and stable material (at least at bow scales; you haven’t tested further). However, as you present it to the bowyer, together with your idea, they explain to you that it doesn’t actually make sense.  Composite bows don’t have enough layers that you can reduce their number without eliminating them outright, adding an extra metal layer would be more complex and you can’t easily glue orichalcum to wood or bone anyway.

In the end, you settle for a full metal bow, which can be produced in the forges without waiting for glue to settle or for materials to grow. We don’t need nature, when we have industry!  The end result is slimmer and somewhat lighter than the original bow and easier to produce.  Being made entirely of orichalcum, and specially treated one at that, makes it fairly expensive however.
[1 wood, 2 ore, 2 orichalcum] [Expensive]

Spoiler:  Atlanteans equipment (click to show/hide)

It is now Battle Phase. You have 2 to 3 days to work on your submission for the competition, while I work on the battle report.

So, the GM says we need to vote on our event submission (which I guess means we only get one?).
In the absence of anyone else providing anything, I'm gonna open by voting for my own thing.

Ode to Atlantis

Neither by ship, nor on foot would you find
The marvellous road to the assembly of the Atlanteans.
Foreigners near and far away glance at it's towers, standing tall
In awe they look on at the glories of it's people
But they can never land on it's magnificent shores.

There, never the Muse is absent
from their ways: lyres clash and flutes cry,
and everywhere maiden choruses whirling.
Neither disease nor bitter old age is mixed
in their sacred blood; far from labor and battle they live.

There, never the philosopher burrows,
for his knowledge is spread by the winds,
and everywhere Gods' choruses whirling
bathing Atlanteans with their birth-promised grace,
bestowing upon them the treasure of wisdom.

A land where never a soldier hides, timid,
for the men of Atlantis stand brave on lands,
and everywhere cities sing them a chorus,
foreigners call their name in welcome as they march
shining like beacons, forging their own fate,
with valor and strength hand in hand.

Like rivers, it's doctors heal the pale,
no man is left weary, ill or struck by disease,
for everywhere the sick sing them a chorus,
speaking of their healing words and touch,
Truly, Hygēa's children one and all, they say.

The mountains and seas know when to part,
Afraid of what might come from an Atlantean child,
For the seas may be gone, and moutains ground to dust,
The very world may fade away, weak and old,
But God-given Atlantis would stand through it all,
It's people cheering the Gods back to their eternal home.

Glory to the Great Thalassocracy,
Glory to the people of Atlantis!

Turn is out. The battle of Anatolia was close, due to the advantage of birbs Aetokon being mostly negated by the mountainous terrain. Your generals are concerned by the sky temple and their inability to do much against it, but appreciate the protection of the fish widely available.

Admirals are annoyed by the permanent tie and would like something to tip the balance.

Aesystrofi's Poliánthion v2: Same again, except that we have more time to dedicate to the design of the Polianthion, since the Orichalcum alloy shouldn't take much modification to work here. As such, we've added some simple gearing to the crank to make the weapon easier to reload, and spent some time ensuring the weapon is sturdy and well balanced, to improve accuracy. The stand has been modified, allowing for a degree of both horizontal and vertical motion, making aiming faster and easier.
In short, the Poliánthion will be a quality weapon that Atlantis can be proud of.

Greater Penteconter: Using an orichalcum keel, this ship is a larger version of the Penteconter, with a second mass and more room for warriors, rowers, and cargo. The other modification is a set of wooden shields attached to parts of the front rail of the ship to provide protection for the warriors on it. The shields can be draped with the Scales to provide futrher protection.

The new ballista that we're presently voting to make, not the orichalcum bows.
