Eh, I don't want to hold things up. Let's just see how the fish thing turns out. (We can eviscerate Happerry if it goes poorly)

Why would we do scale when we can already afford plate? Plate is just plain superior to scale, though granted we aren't using full plate yet.

Heck, we could even be Roman and do a Lorica Segmentata ripoff. That stuff, using Orichalcum, would be amazing.

Protection of the Fish
"Taking inspiration from the scales of a fish, our scholars are now investigating how to sew scales of metal upon robes of linen and leather, so that like a fish our soldiers, even those who are not honored members of the High Guard, may be properly protected from our enemies. If possible, orichalcum  scales would be preferred, but if that would make the armor to expensive to equip all of our troops with, scales of bronze will do as well."

(Easy) (1+2 )+1 = 4 Below average

An unprecedented partnership between tailors, leather workers and blacksmiths is born to produce the new armour that will be standard issue for our army. Sadly, Mixing together so many different kinds of artisans caused early miscommunication and assorted trouble. By the time they sorted things out and started to work in the earnest, they had to cut down the scope of the project to a manageable size. The Fish scale armour is a leather vest with small metal scales sewn on it.It covers from the neck to the groin, leaving arms and legs exposed (to weapons. You still wear clothes). Only the front is made of orichalcum and the back from bronze. The flexibility is also lower than foreseen, due to the sewing of scales requiring, although compensated by the partial coverage of the armour. Despite this, scales still come loose a bit during ordinary military life, meaning that occasionally an arrow can find a gap. Protection from slashing is however good, especially in the orichalcum front. The back uses simple bronze.

Not nearly as good as hoped, it is still cheap and a marked improvement from nothing at all.

1 wood, 1 ore, 1 orichalcum

Summon Bigger Fish
The Protection of the Fish is good, but the difficulties inherent in making so many different kinds of experts work together seems to have made it less then optimal. Obviously, to fix this, we need a better totem for our efforts to make all the artisans shut up and work together. And so, I introduce people to plan to Summon Bigger Fish! Turned into proper full body armor (with sleeves) and with properly attached scales that don't fall off! And after the people wearing the Protection of the Fish complained of chaffing, we also added some padding underneath to make it easier to wear. Incidentally, this also seems to help against blunt weapons. Lastly, we made a shield, by taking some wood, rimming it with metal to keep it from breaking, and then putting leather on the back side with straps so people could also hold it.

Throwing Spears Revision
It's a sad fact that the bows our brave high guard carry are hard and expensive to make. But the spears everyone carries are cheap enough for, well, everyone to carry. So one bright natural philosopher suggested we take our spears and rework them so we have a design that is balanced for throwing! Sheer genius at work, right? And if we can't get enough Orichalcum to outfit them all, he also suggested using bronze instead. But if we use Orichalcum, we can pick the spears up again after we kill whomever they landed on, and then throw them at someone else!

Orichalcum halberd

A long robust poleatm with a orichalcum head that is part axe part spear. Made to pierce more fiercly and to hack through enemies with its axehead, this design can also be used to cut wood where necessary. The axe part is like a jagged crescent moon while the spear part is pointy and menacing.

The enemy has no armor, and hopefully WILL have no armor. So no, the halberd is not necessary. It also requires more strength and training than a spear to use, though I'm not sure that'll be important in this AR. Besides, what with the GM giving lasers to Arms Race players I suspect we're about to take a sharp exit off of the "ancient warfare" track, shoot through the medieval interchange, and find ourselves in "modern warfare but with kinda-sorta magic" real quick.

Well, that's not bad, but it could use a little more work. A shield would help with the weakness to arrows, and slightly against their explody light orbs. Armouring the arms is less critical, but won't hurt. So, yeah, I'll vote for Summon Bigger Fish.

It turns out, there is always a bigger fish. And you caught it.

(Easy) (1+4 )+1 = 6 Above average

After some positive and negative incentives freely dispensed to you teams of artisans, you finally bring the fish armour to the specs it was always meant to have, with some extra. The scales are now properly attached; padding is added to make it more comfortable to wear and more protective against blunt trauma. It gains a skirt that reaches below the knee and sleeves, reducing exposed areas to the head, feet and hands. While those areas are not covered by armour, they are protected by the new shield associated with it, a 60 cm circle, made primarily of wood circled by a metal rim.

While still being somewhat less sturdy and surely it emanates less splendid glory than the high guard armour, it is not far either and some of your elite soldiers can be seen grumbling about all the good stuff being given to everyone.

[2 wood, 2 ore, 1 Orichalcum][Cheap]

Now begins the first turn of the game, design phase of 3000 B.C.
