Greater Penteconter: Using an orichalcum keel, this ship is a larger version of the Penteconter, with a second mass and more room for warriors, rowers, and cargo. The other modification is a set of wooden shields attached to parts of the front rail of the ship to provide protection for the warriors on it. The shields can be draped with the Scales to provide futrher protection.
A bigger, slower ship surrounded by thin wooden shields would be fodder for Atets. We need something faster, or with serious armour capable of tanking a Sun Temple shot.

A possibility for future naval advances discussed on the Discord would be a steam-powered vessel, propelled by rowing automata- bronze constructs in the shape of a man's upper body (with decorative head), whose mechanical arms tirelessly man the oars, with quick and powerful strokes.(the reason we don't use a paddlewheel or propeller is because automata are more on theme, and the GM has confirmed that being on theme is important).

Aesystrofi's Poliánthion v2: Same again, except that we have more time to dedicate to the design of the Polianthion, since the Orichalcum alloy shouldn't take much modification to work here. As such, we've added some simple gearing to the crank to make the weapon easier to reload, and spent some time ensuring the weapon is sturdy and well balanced, to improve accuracy. The stand has been modified, allowing for a degree of both horizontal and vertical motion, making aiming faster and easier.
In short, the Poliánthion will be a quality weapon that Atlantis can be proud of.

(Normal)(1+2)=3 Buggy mess
This time, you start from the Polianthion rather than from the Orichalcum alloy. You design a complex system of winches, the supporting structure, the gears and the springs. It is all magnificent on paper, and you even start sending orders to the fletchers and stoneworkers for ammunition.

Then you start building it, and here is the catch: the stable alloy, well, it isn’t really stable at this scale yet. It is certainly improved enough to be useable, but it is still prone to very frequent failures. The result is a weapon that albeit powerful and long ranged, can’t be expected to last more than a handful of shots before breaking. A simple cart is provided for transportation, and you also experiment with deploying it on ships.
[2 wood, 2 ore, 2 orichalcum][Expensive] (Ships can be equipped with it at a cost of +1 to ore and orichalcum)

Stabilized alloy

Various additions to alloy , forging temperatures, cooling techniques are tested to find out more stable alloy version to be used for our shooty bow thing.

Aetokos Armor
This is just what it sounds like, armor for the Aetokos. Using the experience gained in making the Armor of the Bigger Fish and in the recent experiments with Orichalcum we'll design a light and yet still sturdy Orichalcum and leather breastplate for the Aetokos, as well as a minimal helm that covers the top of the bird's head and two armored flaps that hang from the side's of the, fitting underneath the Aetokos's wings to provide protection to the animal's main body without constraining its freedom of movement.

The ballista has more potential for improvement right now than the Aetokos do.

While one vote is a majority, I would like to see at least 2.

(Normal)(1+3)=4 Below average

Once again, your smiths and alchemists get to work. You are close to the correct recipe, of that you are sure: your bows show that it is possible to make spring alloy stable.  You in fact get many workable candidates, but none perfect. You settle in the end for one that is, as far as you can tell, completely stable. However, it is not as powerful as it should be. It is not that it breaks or anything, but when you draw it to the full strength of your winch system… it just doesn’t release as much as you would expect. Regardless, it is enough to propel a sizeable bolt at a distance somewhat comparable to the enemy’s own heavy weapon, although at maximum range it lacks strength.

it is now Battle phase and all you have to do is wait.

We should build mirror towers to counter their sun staves.

Aegis of Zeus
In one of the battles we have fought with the foul children of Thebes, a lightning bolt struck, the very face of Zeus's disfavor of our foes. And when that bolt struck, the men reported that it caused the projectiles of the strange fire-staves our enemy uses to bend in mid flight! Obviously, some stolen secret of Zeus (thus why he dislikes them probably) is at work here, which is why it can be effected by Zeus's power. Now it is well known that, when forged in certain manners, orichalcum can be caused to release sparks.

As such, in order to claim the Protection of Zeus, we shall refine these recipes until we successfully craft orichalcum infused with the freely granted power of the Sky-God, and then use this new orichalcum to design shields for our high guards. Shields able to trump the enemy's power with power of their own!

Statheros's Armour: Well, we didn't want to have to do this, but the enemy leaves us no choice. We're going to have to talk to Statheros. Dude lives in a barrel, never bathes, and masturbates in public... but by the gods, he knows his way around explosion-absorbing Orichalcum.
Yes, properly treated, Orichalcum can be made to absorb vast amounts of heat. Where does it go? Probably the same place the heat comes from with Orichalcum when it warms up. We'll leave the details to the philosophers.
So, with the help of Statheros, we've set up a process to manufacture this variety, and make helmets, greaves, and aspides ((hoplite shields)) out of it. If that proves excessive, the shields are the most important part.
