What became of the dwarves who fled deeper underground when we sacked their fortress? Did they escape somehow, or were they just hiding in a mineshaft until the coast was clear?

Related, what were the dwarves fighting down there shortly before we sacked their fort? I don't remember exactly when that happened but they warned us about the situation but refused our offer to help, then just told us it was dealt with a while later.

They went deeper underground and through all those caves and tunnels, navigated their ways safely to other fortresses.

They dug too deep and released some couple forgotten beasts and such. Took them a while to kill'em all.

The region in general was quite tolerant, because it lies in nature of Pantheonism to be tolerant ("hey, nice god. Did you know we have 50 plus of them? Ain't that rad!"), then Singularism and Damed showed up, and recently Alldivinism, and people began to play favorites, till Cyl happened.

No, Methiant the only one with university in this region.

It sheds away lots of gods made from people aka 'this guy did this and killed this beast and then won seven battles in a row, truly he must've been god in disguise'. Thann's purist version crops the list back to first half of first millenium AD.

No idea. But true to DF inspirations that are already aplenty in spamkingdom, dwarves probably have some sort of pantheon and elves worship a forest spirit or two.

Ye gods! Instead of barfing like any normal sick person would do, a ribbed black appendage bursts from her mouth. In a cacophony of clicks, sizzles and very quiet shrieks, the maid stands upright, her chest bursting open and a set of four, scythe-like legs extending from her exposed ribcage, the visible bones wrapped in mass of black tentacles.

The horrid tentacle-ant-maid-thing then bursts a lobster-like tail from between its legs and goes as qaudruped. Its tongue-tube-thing extends towards you, and only now you notice triple row of needle-like teeth decorating its tight throat tunnel.

Drooling and clicking widly, this monster from other world advances towards you!!

What sort of monster was this thing, and where did it come from?

That's a Zorkubt, an unfortunately common ailment in Methiant during the fall.  The parasite is passed through drinking water and heating or brewing normally kills it but a few people are infect each year despite this.  The tail actually has the egg cluster which it tries to get into a nearby body of water so the life cycle of the other gender can fertilize it.

The only curious thing is why it was so hostile, as they normally run from most encounters despite their great ability at self defense.
