So... Does anyone have a forum game from here that they fondly remember?

There's a lot of really good ones, even to the point where they're great just to read through. I recall a CYOA one about starting a new colony on a remote planet. Though... that wasn't that long ago.

I don't think I ever played a forum game all my life.

I think some time ago I tried to get in on a fef, but lost a coin toss to someone probably more acquainted with the genre.

Informally, the phrase forum game seems to exclude community forts, so no, I haven't played in any.  I've considered running one before (coincidentally, a CYOA about an interplanetary colony...) but I really do not need more obligations right now.

I remember enjoying most of the forum games I spent long stretches participating in, but now I look back on them and weep. When I was a wee lad I ran a D&D 4th edition game (terrible nonsense, but it gave me my first rough idea of what not to do in D&D games.) There was a "courtroom thread" I ran, initially intended to be a place to jokingly solve disputes between forumites, that turned into some kind of weird crossover nonsense within a couple weeks, that I had the good sense to shut down a few months ago.

As a kind of general thing, my most prolific times in FG&RP were when I was a teenager of about 14, and as a result most of the stuff I ran--both games and characters--was to a certain degree immature, and on the whole full of bad jokes and "subtle" references.

(Sorry to anyone who metaphorically bumped into me back then, ha ha.)

The one forum game I can think of that I wish I'd taken further was a text suggestion game about a murder in a Venice-style merchant republic, that I started running to get Assassin's Creed 2-inspired creative juices out of my system. I think it was going reasonably well, but I forgot about it and it was long enough ago that reviving the thread would feel odd.

This, heh.

I've read a few quests elsewhere,* and I think maybe tried contributing a character or two to something or another earlier on, but I've mostly avoided FG&RP (and the community forts, for that matter) over the years. Once I filtered down to GD and OG, I've been pretty immobile sub-forum participation wise. Closest I've been to it's some MP games with forumgoers.

* Actually, the thought of navigating something like that on this forum's software is vaguely nightmarish, now that I think about it. Threadmarks or sod off.

There was a brief time when I played a lot in FG&RP, but I never got into any of the really deep and cool games. Always wanted to try one, but they seemed so imposing and spooky.

That said, I ended up as the villain of one game that went on for hundreds of pages; that was a fun time, although I maybe took it too seriously on occasion. :P Long live the Paladins! Death to the Lich(ette)!

I know it's quite a few hours (and several pages) late, but...
You know, I just remembered back when MLP was banned from the forums. Can't recall the reasoning behind it, but something like 4 threads got locked and a lot of their comments purged after they all broke the rules, and Toady basically said "If you so much as start talking about that program, there will be consequences"
It was because people were posting rape-fics for some insane reason.

God, I remember that forum game. Did that coincide with the flying fortress?
The penguin battlefortress was like... in the VN days. Or immediately post-VN. I can't remember.
From what I managed to gather, the Penguin Battlefortress was one of the main causes of the death of VN. Of course, some years later there was the Second Penguin Thread, for which I was around. It was surprisingly tame up until the point where it turned into a sort of war between penguin fans and bronies and was promptly locked.

Barebones, a bunch of dudes with penguin avatars used the (now disabled) ability to move threads in order to create a series of threads as a flying battlefortress and then drop it into other boards like a bunch of penguiny corsairs.

Yeah, he's a banned spammer. Normally we'd delete this thread too, but people were having too much fun with it by the time we got here.
