Just found this through an update on Steam. This is from the guy who made the game Enemy ( http://store.steampowered.com/app/339570/Enemy/ ) before. It looks really neat and promises physics driven motion fo the creatures as well as simulated DNA, evolution and ecosystems.

What do you guys think?

I am disappointed nobody has replied to this. :P

This looks honestly pretty great. As far as evolution simulators go, very few of them aim for "realistic" graphics, and there's good reason for that... but I think it's very brave of them to try here, even if the results tend towards the hilarious. I could watch that L-shaped fish gif all day.

Basing it around fish is really smart, too - they have a simpler body plan and locomotion that doesn't involve fighting against gravity as much, so you're more likely to stumble on "natural"-looking shapes and motion than if you're trying to evolve walking or running.

I really hope this gets funded, since it looks like the kind of bio-sandbox game that would've blown my mind as a kid when I was somewhat disappointed by SimLife's bare-bones presentation.

I didn't notice this until today. It looks a bit like something that Thrive wanted to aim for.

I am certainly interested...

I have actually been waiting for someone to make a game about genetics using genetic algorithims

Hey, glad this has a thread. I backed it a few days ago.

This seems like one of those games where the main fun part comes from different complicated systems interacting in unpredictable ways, like Dwarf Fortress. I'm always happy to have more games like that, and more games about evolution.

What interests me most about it is that the fish seem to actually eat each other using actual mouths, which makes me hope that we see some strange hunting methods evolving.

I backed it. Looking forward to seeing how it all works in practice, but the example videos and such look interesting.

When's closed beta? I had some fun with http://www.speciesgame.com so I might like this and Spore.

Haven't played that in some time, looks like Quasar's really improved it.

As for this, using all or nothing backing doesn't seem like a great idea, particularily considering that he only announced it on March 13th and it lasts a month. Personally, I'd just take what backing I can get.

Less than 48 hours to go and they're still only 73% of the way to their goal. I don't follow many kickstarters, but that doesn't seem to bode too well for getting funded...

I hope it makes it, anyway. I actually really want this game to exist.

no demo, so what else can we say? those gif can be of anything. and evolving swimming behavior plus skeleton in 8 generation is rather off by what I know from real evolutionary simulation.

Ah heck, it looks like that other evolution game but way better! Color me excited, as I have looked for this for a while!

Well, unless they can raise a few thousand dollars in the next half hour, I guess it's probably a failure...

There's a livestream going on on the Kickstarter page right now, anyway, showing off some footage.

Edit: Didn't make it.
