Need Pixel Artist to convert this 3D Tavern
« on: March 10, 2018, 09:32:50 pm »

Formerly: Need 3D Tavern Render, preferably by a Baytwelvian

Thank you so much Daren Kazzarch!

Pixel Artist needed!
The tavern conversion needs these things:
• Overall medium lighting. New details such as candles on the walls and so forth can be added.
• Thicker lines separating foreground and background. So when people draw their own characters it's easy to tell what should be in front of that and what is the background. For example rails having thicker lines on their outline.
• Final image will be 500 pixels wide, 300 pixels tall. Broken into 100 by 100 portals. (Pixel size is up to you)

Original Post:
I've got a small community art project I want to do for an image based portal, to be used over at FG and RP.

I just need a really basic non textured, empty medieval style tavern. From a dynamic position where you would be able to see many of the patrons and the bartender.

I will take this image and turn it into a kind of cartoon with all the characters needed.

I will then take that image and divide it into segments, and I will put a link on each segment so that it can be used as a hub to get to the prominent threads in the forum games and role-playing area.

I did a really simple version of this in this forum game with the world map.

I can give some concept sketches though I am very flexible as long as it's recognizable as some kind of medieval Tavern and has plenty of space to put people in it.

This'll go in the game list thread stickied in forum games and role playing.

I want to put a lot of effort into this so I would really prefer not having just some stock image I based it off of. I want this to be really made from Bay 12.

Can you help me? Here's my DeviantArt gallery.

Very quick, very basic.

Is this the right direction?

Wow!

That is hella tight. Here was my latest draft:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Here was an earlier draft where I filled it with people:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Wishlist:
  • Mission Board (optionally with flyers)
  • Window(s), or door leading outside
Basically it will be the portal to "other forum game websites"
  • Empty animal trophy placards
For a homage to old game list hosts, there are 6 including myself, basically framing our severed avatar head in a tongue in cheek way.

If you are done, I can definitely do something with it. And I thank you. If however you want to keep going those would help out.

There are a couple ways to go with this project.
Pixel Art Conversion: If I can find a pixel artist, which I am not.
Space Jam/Rodger Rabbit-esk Scene: Using your image straight, and adding the characters directly on top.

The colors are pretty appropriate with wood furniture and stone foundation and walls. If you would like to experiment with textures go for it. All in all I am impressed.

Great use of rule of thirds!

Glad you like it.

hmm.. your drafts aren't showing for me, but i think i saw them elsewhere in the forum.
I will try to add your wishlist tomorrow.
As for texturing, most likely not. I have zero experience and it would probably end up worse than without.

Rule of thirds? What even is that? Never heard of it.

edit:
btw What resolution would you prefer?

It can be 'too big' and scaled down later. The final draft will be 500 wide by 300 tall, so it can be cut into 100 by 100 squares.

Here you go:

Though the door probably leads to a storage room.
The spaceabove it can be filled with a tastefull mural or a wizard or some other flying creature.
edit:
Here is an alternative angle which divades a bit better, but shows too much of the roof for my liking.

Thanks a lot, if that changes let me know. There will definitely be a credits mention. Do you do commission art?

Edit:
Just realized, there is no way upstairs!

I know. :D
Do you want me to add stairs?
As it is curently set up they would cover the mission board, but that could be moved to the corner instead of one of the tables. Or maybe switched around with the door.
Thoughts?

As for credit: Just mention my forum name somewhere those who care can find it.

Stairs invites a lot of fun!

Are you sure it would be in the way? Seems like it could just cover the west column and a little in front of it.
Edit: Oh crap, that would kill a whole table. Let me think...

I leave it up your creativity. Good luck!

As far as the camera angle. I think if we raise it up a little(Z) and face it downward a little more, balancing these two to frame about the same area...

...we can see people sitting on F2 better, maybe the corner tables on F1.

(This is reference to the first of the two images.)

Edit:
It is better to err on 'too zoomed in' than out.
Bigger, more visible characters that way. So anything empty can be trimmed is what I am saying.

Rule of 3 is where your first image divided F1 into a top layer, and F2 into two layers. Which worked well with the way the image will be cut up.

Stairs have no railings because i am lazy like that.

I am prety happy with how this one turned out.
The camera had to be moved out a bit so the stairs would fit, which leaves more space in the front. I could probably fit another prop there if you want, or turn he tables around a bit so they don't look so rigid.

Looks great!

Since the tables don't work upstair, perhaps remove them? Or add stools? Or creating walking space.

Edit:
And I guess turn the stairs cc to "enter" floor 2. Or add a landing square.
