The earthly dwarven brethren in the human realms of mining has found a new mineral never before seen (visibly seen, anyway) to science; I expect this to be included into the game as a fabulously rare, but worthless, item that is craved for an artifact and located only in the shallow depths of 160 layers beneath the fortress sea level, if I am interpreting this right...

It's a hard and dense material that makes up the bowels of the earth, just above where the magma starts. It's slade.
