Ok, this is not another explination on how to build the perfect fortress, or another succession game designed to lead some poor dwarves to their deaths. this is something a little different.

I'm going to try and make a 3D representation of my fort.

god, what have I let myself in for?

to start off with, this is really just a test and to build some macros for the NEXT version of DF, when I'll try and build the fort as I go along.

but to start off with, here are the entrance hall

and the storage room

more to come soon I hope.

That is, like, the best thing in the DF General Discussion forum.

Very cool so far! It'll be great to see a nicely rendered 3D fort.

I love created artwork based on Dwarf Fortress, since the symbolic nature of the game gives you a lot of creative freedom.   :)

It would be Awesome (with a capital A) to have a utility to convert a DF savegame into a Quake map or something similar.  And not too implausible either!

a look at the founders hall (the first barracks thing I dug out for them upon arriving)

not many of them left now.

PS more concentrating on the fort and less on the max, nearly had everyone starve to death because I overproduced sweet pods but nothing to cook them with.

Nice perspective on the last one, and it has furniture!

That's so cool, but I don't get it. Are you making a tool to generate these pictures automaticcally, or are you drawing them yourself in [some program]? Cool either way.

I thought about doing something like this, but I won't bother until the actual Z update comes in so a 3D render can *really* show some neat stuff.

Turning Dwarf into sort of a Civilization/Sims but still retaining rogue roots. I'd buy it for $50.

He's building the fortress in a 3D program (3D Studio Max?). The wireframe objects he constructs are rendered out into images with textures and lighting by the program.

got it in one. 3D Studio Max - I'm totally self taught (please don't question that one to much) , but I realised that I've never taught myself to do buildings and the like. so i thought I'd do this.

and as for the next version, I'm going to restart the whole thing when that comes out, and try and do the outside of a fort.  to teach myself terrain.  I know this may seem pointless to some people, but as I'm doing it for myself I just thought some people would like to see them, rather than sitting on my computer

as I'm showing off, a project i'm taking a break from for a while - my Traim warriors

EDIT - Just lost Bartreaty to a goblin siege -   I've not been playing long, and this was only my third siege ever. some evil looking goblin broke down or otherwise managed to get past the door, and soon the whole army was into the fortress. my dwarves never stood a chance, and despite their best effots the goblins were soon going room to room (very methodically I might add) butchering the wounded dwarves from the last siege.

lucky I hurredly exported a BMP map, so i can continue to work from that

nice  :) Which version of MAX? I have 4.2 and am also entirely self taught. I can do buildings really well, but animals, and other reatures I am terrible at. If you want (and if your version is compatible with mine which might ot be the case if you have a higher version.) we can make a joint effort at this. (orIll just go do mine in 3D.  :P )
