IC-Thread7th of February 2018: What ISS reported initially as space contortions would soon turn into something far more curious, as within minutes Unidentified Flight Objects would emerge from it. Humanity had made first contact.
How this would impact World Politics remained to be seen. One thing was sure however, the world as we knew it, would change.Welcome to Shattering the Skies Above, in which you the players will take the roles of several of Earths Governments and guide them through the Arrival of the Bassai and the consequences of this First Contact.
How does it work?
Each turn you get one military, espionage, research, economic and political order as you guide your nation. One Turn here would be one Month.
For Espionage to work, you need to infiltrate a Spy into another country who will then attempt whatever it is you want him to do. Your Agents will be more successful (and safer against counter-espionage) the deeper you infiltrate them into the target government.
The Success of the actions you take depends on your espionage funding, technology, the spies experience, counter-espionage as well as other infiltrated agents and various diplomatic options.
Research will be slow, and while captured/stolen/bought Alien Tech can be reverse engineered, this will not be as simple as Xcom where you reverse engineer high-technology in the turn of a month.
Generally speaking it is possible to reverse engineer and research all of the alien tech, with the caveat that some things do not exist on earth and thus you are reliant on loot or goods gotten from the Bassai.
Research is based on a variety of factors, including funding, available tech stolen/bought from others and time already spent on research of a particular technology
Initially your country will be somewhat closely modelled to its counterpart in real life, including its internal and external politics and its economy. That would mean for example for the USA to be stuck in a political deadlock between Republicans and Democrats, an unreasonable President, adventures in Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq as well as military missions and attaches around the globe, an ailing economy, debt ceiling to only name only a few things that will be going on despite Aliens having arrived.
While you can change all of these things and shape the country to your bidding, it will like so many things take time and effort. You could make America a Kingdom ruled by the Washington descendants...you could...but it would take quite a lot of doing.
Similiarly External Politics go way beyond you either annexing or diplomancing people. These are other countries with people who do not necessarily be your citizens and as such while good old imperialism can be alive and well, it comes with strings attached and loads of time involved.
And then there is of course the Economy. I have been considering for quite a while now how to handle it and ultimately it came down to the easiest option: IC is the currency of the day. Industrial Capacity will be used for everything from maintenance, to creation of new units, research funding, espionage funding, general investments. It is the equivalent to money.
Military is split up into two parts. BlackOps and Actual Military Operations.
Modern Militaries are expensive to maintain as the example of the US shows who despite investing trillions, field about the equivalent of 30 Divisions. As such the Division by and large has been abandoned by most nations these days. Instead Regiments and Brigades are usually whats used in Military Organization.
As such players will field Regiments for Military Operations. That is proper overt Desert Storm type Warfare. It is expensive, messy, diplomatically a bad idea and your public won't love you much for it eiether...at least usually. On the other hand...
The Alternative is BlackOps. This would be more of your classic XCom style Elite Soldiers going on clandestine missions to achieve things you found out by Espionage. Its way cheaper to deploy them then sending outright armies after whomever you want to hurt and also carries the benefit of you being able (most of the time) to keep to the shadows.
Warfare Depends on your Particular Units Skill, Luck, The Officer in Charge, Technologic Advantages aswell as Tactical and Strategical Advantages or Disadvantages.
Well here we are, your country has been invaded and successfully occupied by either humans or aliens...what now? Well lets just say you might discover an entire different side of gameplay should that happen.
Sign-UpGenerally not much more than your desired country is needed. HOWEVER, i expect you to play Countries which are at least somewhat relevant on the World Stage. The decision as to what is relevant or not will stay ultimately with me. So yeah, sorry but i'm not doing this for half the players to play Countries like San Marino and Andorra. Otherwise anything thats on the World Map goes. From the USA to North Korea anything goes.
Initially 6 players will be accepted with potential for more if i feel it possible to handle more. Its not first come first served, instead players will be randomly selected should more than the initial 6 apply.
