In case anyone's curious, a new stable release is just around the corner. It's adding a mechanical pulveriser, milking and cheese-making, a new sawblade locust enemy and a bell "enemy" that does nothing but attract other hostiles to it, a few new blocks, meteoric iron as its own separate (and better) iron tier, and most importantly it's adding steel!

The next update's features are being put up to a vote on the forums, and it looks like it'll be focusing on adding things like more foods, animals, alcohol etc.

EDIT: Actually, the stable release was done last night, so we're actually there now.

EDIT2: As ever, the offer for some MP is up. If anyone's hosting or finds a server (If I find a server I'll drop the IP) I'd be up for working on a small village with them.

Decided to impulse-buy this.

Spent a day or two, and built a tiny shelter out of dirt. Spent another couple of in-game days wandering looking for clay. Found some, and moved my straw bed over nearby. Tried to build a tiny log house, but it was nowhere near done before night fell. Was attacked by what I assume are the reason you get your shelter done by nightfall. Killed two, broke my crappy spear, then spent the entire night running in circles in pitch darkness(nights are dark). As day broke, I tried to take on the third with my axe, but axes are terrible weapons apparently, and I died.

Next day, I got my house finished, then nearly starved to death in my sleep. After losing most of my health, I managed to cook a cattail root to give myself enough energy to forage, found enough berries to refill my food bar.

Pretty sure where I've built my house in a lousy spot. It's atop a hill of granite gravel, and the rainfall measure straddles between "uncommon" and "rare". In fact, I saw heavy clouds roll in at one point, only for them to part roughly the exact spot my house is.

I started playing on the Conquest of Blocks server.  It's running some mods and PvP lite.

Server is set up to allow groups of players to make towns and stuff.  I'm going to explore and see what's around.  Maybe find a place to live, or make cheese.

Sounds good, I'll join tomorrow since it's getting late where I'm at.

I've climbed a mountain to the west of the spawn on CoB.  Claimed a area on top of the ice to build on.  Logged off to let the berry bushes I brought grow so I don't starve.

If you go around the north of the mountain along the lake you should find a ladder up.  The path isn't super obvious and I don't know how clear it is with all the dirt that fell as I went up.

Literally living in the clouds right now.

Edit: For a few reasons I moved off of the mountain.  Though not before setting my spawn on top.  I'm aiming to live in the marsh north of the snow covered mountain now.

I miss playing with people but kiddo sucks away time. Good luck on your endeavor. I'd love to see pics of whatever results so I can play vicariously through them.

Goofed around for a bit. Mostly was getting murdered by drifters and wolves in the dead of night (lost my spawnpoint setter  ::) ) and trying to get to top of snow-capped mountain without blocks.

This looks really awesome.

Sadly, I cannot get it since it's not on Steam (I don't have the option of paying online, at least for Steam I can go to the cigarette store and buy a gift card for myself to put money on Steam.

I was gonna say the mountain would be a terrible spot. Unlike Minecraft plants need a minimum temperature to grow, and transporting resources up a mountain would be a bit of a bugger.

I doubt the top of a mountain has great soil either.

Typically not, no. Though you can of course import good soil up there.

I need to try out the latest versions. Used to be having a mountaintop farm was fine if you imported decent soil, but I expect the new changes make that less viable.

I've been looking for hours, but the only wild plants I've ever found was a small patch of turnips, which didn't give any seeds despite being mature, and I forgot where they were. Is that normal?

Doesn't sound normal to me. Maybe you got a bad biome or something? I'd maybe go south, see if you can find more in warmer areas.

Greatorder was on earlier and found some coal and copper.  Going to go into town and see what I can buy and sell.  See if I can get a hammer, saw, or more pick axes.  The one I got was a gift and it's bronze.  Rather see if we can replace the bronze pick with another before using it up.

Spoiler: Current Lean-to (click to show/hide)

The people in the starting town are pretty generous and have a good supply of resources.
