How much is there on the survival part ?

when I look at their feature list and roadmap, I just read about wildlife, but nothing about monsters and real enemies...

How does it compare to vanilla Minecraft, in term of survival (are there attacking enemies, how varied are they, are there ranged enemies, do they respawn, are there dungeons already,...) ?

I haven't played much but I have seen hostile wolves, boars, and a short zombie thing. I haven't seen ranged enemies yet. Groups of wildlife have spawn points. I've only seen the zombie thing at night so I assume they spawn in darkness.

Survival is basically Minecraft level minus enchanting and redstone and with more in-depth farming and blacksmithing.

And now for something entirely different: how is creative mode? does it exist? are there tools for world building, copy/paste, etc. etc.?

JK, I went on the sight immediately after typing that to have my question answered. It does.

I've read a few references regarding fire clay bricks. I suspect they might be used in some form of smithing.

Assuming you mean amongst the players, yes. There are no NPC villages that I'm aware of but you can build cities if you want.

There are groups that players can be a part of and different groups can have permission to build in different areas. These may need to be set up by an op.

Ok, I bought it and joined your server, Mephisto, but there didn't seem to be anybody there, and I didn't see any construction by other players, either :/

Also, this games likes to make you eat 2 whole chickens per day or die of hunger... yay ...

You're the third person to join (including myself). Thanks! Yeah, spawn is kind of barren. Greatorder wandered off and found ruins, I wandered off and found acacia trees. I've actually been thinking about this a bit and came up with a few options.

  • Once someone crafts a hoe, they head back to spawn and set up a "starter hut" with reed baskets and a small farm. I'll be working on this now. I've just got to find some clay and a bunch of copper pieces.
  • If someone finds a spot with lots of forageables, trees, and resources, I use an op command to set the world spawn there. There's currently no way to set your personal spawn so I don't feel too bad about doing so.
  • We continue as we are now, every person for themselves.

Cool. Do you have some coordinates (Ctrl+F3, I believe, for debug mode)? Don't worry if the numbers look really big. I don't think the world is infinite, just very large. Players spawn near the center of it.

V should be showing your distance to spawn.

I'm on my way with a bunch of berry bushes. They're pretty good food.

I actually meant like with NPCs and what have you. Ya multiplayer is all well and good, but there's something satisfying about creating a world and it's obvo really hard to populate your creations with actual players. And I never really care for survival elements, building is more fun for me.

Ugh. Is there some control work still going on? I can't seem to look around using my track pad or use function keys.
