Writing in progress. Questions, Comments, Concerns very welcome. This may become an OOC thread in the future, so feel free to let me know if the game would be better as a suggestion or a character driven RP, instead of the hybrid i’m planning on attempting.
In 1806, a marvellous discovery was made which would change the course of history forever. A rare metal named “Atlanteum” which had a far higher tensile strength than current steel, and when alloyed could create structures previously thought impossible. The horseless carriage, on the cusp of mainstream recognition, quickly became numerous individualised beasts of clockwork and steam, and more changes are yet to come.
Men and Women from London, Germany, and budding America have flocked to the location in coastal Africa now known as “New Dedham”, eagerly rushing to claim a site from which they might mine this incredible wonder. Your team of unlikely bedfellows has recently discovered an almost impossibly lucrative seam, set into a great underground cavern, and shall have to defend your mine site from above and below whilst you squeeze it for every last penny.
For Queen and Country! You play as one of three (possibly more later) prospector/inventors, rushing to claim as much Atlanteum as possible, selling some and tinkering with the rest.
This is a suggestion game, but with multiple characters. Each character will control one aspect of the camp (Trade, Security, Mining) whilst also inventing along their individual tech-lines and going on spelunking missions in order to discover new seams.
Players will be asked to only post as one character per “turn”, in order to try and keep things simple. Hopefully there’ll end up being a collection of regulars, and involved spectators, all enjoying the game without getting underneath eachother’s skin.
Stats
Stats in this are... “simple/complex”. There should be hopefully no need for dice, with everything in this game being based off your stats and your inventions.
Stats operate off a Pro/Con system. As you rank up in a specific stat, you will accrue bonuses and new abilities, as well as detriments to go along with your new shape or mindset. For instance, Physique operates off Strong/Bulky.
The table looks a little like this:
Equal or less than 5 Cannot move
6
7 Can lift medium objects
8
9 Cannot fit into very tight spaces
10
11 Can Heave heavy objects, or two medium objects
12
13 Able to be heard and spotted more easily
Etcetera. The full tables are pending the interest check (and being pencilled up) but we currently have:
Physique Strong/Bulky
Dexterity Nimble/Fragile
Genius Intelligent/Eccentric
Optionals so far are:
Initiative Fast/Twitchy
Charisma Charming/Indecisive
This means that you have to be dumb if you want to be wilful, or clumsy if you want to be enduring- which should give some incentives for unique min-maxing amongst the party.
Inventions:
Each Character has graduated from their specific Engineering Learn2Place with a single main focus.
This will also have to be chosen at the beginning of the game, and blending/branching foci will likely be very difficult.
To start with, the options are:
Clockwork
Coils and Springs, timing and mechanisms. Atlanteum clockwork is capable of storing incredible amounts of potential energy waiting to be unleashed.
Steam
Gas under pressure. The Atlanteum Alloy steam boiler is capable of holding water vapour at incredible tension in a surprisingly small parcel
Combustion
Oil, Powder and Dynamite. Atlanteum barrels and engines are capable of diverting the force of powerful explosions
Lightning
Coils and Turbunes. Traditional “electricity” doesn’t play well with Atlanteum, but static (or raw lightning) seems to stick to the surface of an Atlanteum tube, which prompted the first “Tesla battery”
Morphology
Blood and Sinew. Atlanteum is unusually able to be alloyed with uranium in an almost-impossible fashion, allowing for mutative implants and repurposed flesh.
Not sure what to put here.
”New Dedham” is actually the name of the major port town in the area. That is where you’ll be selling your Atlanteum and gathering rumours and supplies. Your stake is many miles away, and will need naming (along with possibly a wall)
Spelunking will be where the cool gadgets are used, camp will be where the cool gadgets are made, and if you kill enough stuff you level up and get to make more gadgets.
Edit: Sorry guys i’ve got to get some sleep, and there’s nowhere on my phone to safely save this.
Please let me know what you think of the game time in lieu.
