Your most complicated artifact?
« on: October 16, 2006, 01:10:00 am »

My legendary miner/detailer/mason just became secretive and claimed a craftsdwarf shop. I hoped I had enough of the right materials... it turned out I did, fortunately, but after watching her pick up 2 pieces of onyx, a piece of jet, some horse leather, 2 sets of turtle bones, AND some willow logs, I began wondering what exactly she was working on. The result was:

Narumoz Togalshoveth, Rawnessrampaged the Stormy Mysteries, an Onyx piccolo
This is an Onyx piccolo. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is decorated with Jet and encircled with bands of Onyx, turtle bone and Willow. On the item are images of flies in Onyx. On the item are images of flies in horse leather. On the item are images of wild strawberries in turtle bone.

So I was wondering... what sort of bizzare complicated 20-ingredient artifacts have you come up with?

(By the way, the dwarf (who is now ultra-mighty, unbelievably agile and unbelievably tough) happens to love onyx and hate flies. Why she decided to make flies on her piccolo, I'm not sure.)

It's called "Rawnessrampaged" -- perhaps the flies were involved in some horrific scene!  I deliberately made them choose creatures they both like and hate for this reason.  It'll be better once it describes the images rather than just mentioning them.

Maybe she hates piccolos too and decided to put flies on it out of spite because she couldn't come up with an artifact idea of something she actually liked?

clearly the wild strawberries represent the "rawness".  I can just imagine them rampaging and rending those flies apart in their toothy-maws.

I'll give you 14,400 for that piccolo.

Obviously the fresh and delicious raw strawberry was rampaged by the disgusting flies.

Here's another interesting one:

Ingredients--
cassiterite
cassiterite
obsidian
onyx
felsite
malachite
cave spider silk cloth
turquoises

Result--
Thatthiltislam Romektarmid, Autumndessert the Long Blade, a bronze amulet
This is a bronze amulet. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is decorated with cave spider silk. This object menaces with spikes of tin, Onyx and Turquoise. On the item are images of mules in tin. On the item oare images of dwarves in Obsidian. On the item are images of prickle berries in Felsite. On the item are images of large roaches in copper.

If I recall correctly, the dwarf loved onyx and hated roaches. I don't think he had any feelings about any of the other art pieces. Unfortunately I can't check becuase that game was lost shortly afterwards to a earthrending universecrushing disturbance (aka crash for no obvious reason).

I've got one, sort of.  It'd be weirder if it weren't all stone.

Konducim Arak Uvoth, "Masterworks the Shaft of Shreds", a Schist bed

This is a Schist bed.  All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality.  It is decorated with Schist and Rhyolite and encircled with bands of Talc.  This object menaces with spikes of Onyx.

I personally, would not want to sleep in this bed.

That's because you aren't a Dwarf. The other Dwarves in your fortress are thinking to themselves, "A stone bed? BRILLIANT!".

It IS brilliant. However, I still wouldn't want to sleep on it, for one reason alone:

The object is so masterfully crafted that the stone it's made out of is actually comfortable.

Maybe the bands of Talc are actually Stone Springs.

Well, I just got my most complicated (and expensive) artifact ever:

Platinum, silk, bone, aquamarine, leather, platinum, leather, platinum, and bone.  A ring worth 177,600.  And it only weighs 1.  That is some seriously portable wealth.

It was a possessed mood, though, so no legendary dwarf.

I don't think anyone in the entire game world will have enough gold to pay you if you try to sell it...
