Monsterfef: Sinister Omens

It is the fifty-third year of the Age of Steel. These are troubled times, but then again, the land hasn't been peaceful since the Age of Gods.

It seems peaceful now, however. On the outskirts of the plains of Aren, a small party heads towards a old fort, abandoned since the war thirty years ago. A diverse party, indeed. Humans and harpies, spiders and centaurs, oh my. All of them are part - or at least working - for the Kingdom of Vang.

Maken Isold, Aldric Bellerose, Eyes-Like-Gold, Cyryl, Sharl, Swift-As-Gale and Benvolio are in.

Their leader, the Lady Sen, pauses their march.

"We're meeting at a little fort that got burned down thirty years ago, called Fort Lucille. It's been kept quiet, to avoid any interference."
She sighed.
"We're not far, now. Remember, don't attack them unless they attack us first."

Makin nods, a hand instinctively reaching for a sword he no longer carried at his hip. One of the requirements of his coming on this trip as Lady Sen's bodyguard, no matter how much he argued, was that he was not to be armed. Something about not wanting too many people armed and trying to present a proper front and having someone focused on healing. Nonsense the lot of it but he wasn't going to argue. Besides, if it really turned out he needed one, he'd just take a sword from someone else. Easy enough.

"Lady Sen, would it make sense to send scouts ahead? This, as you said, is an isolated area. It's good for keeping our talks away from the public, but it also opens us up to easy attack. We would be foolish to trust our enemies enough to not even check it out first."

"If you need a scout, I could have a quick look around there myself and report back."
Benvolio flashes an easy smile, rubbing the back of his head and pacing a little restlessly. Already, he was eager to prove himself useful in some manner; these were unfamiliar faces, who possibly knew nothing of centaurs or knew little of the Shrikes, and so he had a better shot at making himself look useful compared to back home.

Cyryl leaned against his lance which was set against the ground, point up. He ran his free hand through his short hair, and looked out toward the fort ahead of them. "Come on everyone, its not like we're already at war. Cooler heads may yet prevail." Cyryl, for one, had hope for the meeting to turn out quite well.

"If you need a scout, let me or my sister do it. We're trained scouts and can observe from up high."

[Unlurking Sentinel]

"Yeah, how about both of you just get lost? It would give me a lot less of a headache."

Benvolio frowns, about to interject to point out something before Sharl interjected instead. He turns towards him instead.
"Hey, hey, no need to be so hostile to our companions. We're just talking about scouting out the fort, that's all."

[Twinwolf]

"If you've magically learned how to fly, feel free to tell everyone!" because that would be utterly terrifying and I'd rather not find out when you decide to eat me...

[I_Like_Pi]

"I'm sure the both of us will contribute more than you. If anyone's going to get lost, it ought to be you." It'll certainly ease my nerves without you around.

[Unlurking Sentinel]

Sharl sighs, before turning his eyes to the ground and muttering a curse.

[Swordstar]

"Even if there are peaceful talks, it would be dumb to go into it completely blind. Especially given we have such useful scouts with us for this express purpose."

He might have said more to the optimistic soldier but then bickering broke out between the monsters in their party. Scowling, he snapped at them,

"Stop it, all of you. You've all be chosen to be on this mission for a reason. Which means you're companions whether you like it or not. This sort of behavior will not do and only serves to embarrass the Lady and weaken our position in these talks. So behave like you're professionals on a diplomatic mission." They all fit at least half of that. The other half is becoming much more in question though...

[GiglameshDespair]

"Enough. Let's not start fighting each other just yet until we find out if we have to fight the Liberty Union, first."

"If you want to scout, Eyes-Like-Gold, Swift-As-Gale, you may, but stick together. We don't want to look like we're scoping for an attack, either."

[Twinwolf]

The smaller harpy nodded vigorously.

"Alright! Let's go!" she said, taking a few steps back for a running start and then leaping to the air, hovering a bit as she waits for her sister.

"Well, either way, let's all try to keep our own cool at least. It helps to stay collected when it comes to negotiations you know. Never let 'em see you sweat and all that."

[I_Like_Pi]

"Understood. You have my apologies."

With that said she took to the skies after her sister.

"Indeed, but let's fly lower than usual to be careful."
