turning off artefacts
« on: January 11, 2018, 05:54:52 pm »

I want to turn off artefacts until the last 5 children in my fort have grown up.
Can I turn that off and on with no consequence? Will it resume as normal, and not make me lose the explored tiles count?

Turning off ARTIFACTS in d_init.txt simply prevents strange moods from starting - all of the mood criteria are totally independent and will not be affected in any way.

In fact, the explored tile count is calculated from scratch every time the game "rolls the dice" to see if a mood will happen, which also means that channeling away the surface can potentially reduce your explored tile count (because they have to be subterranean to count).

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
