Adamantine Cloth - How To?
« on: January 11, 2018, 11:40:48 am »

Really simple... how do I made Adamantine Cloth? The wiki isn't very forthcoming.

I have Adamantine Strands, and I assumed I'd just weave it at the Loom, but it isn't registered my strands as a viable source. So what am I missing?

Yes, adamantine strands are woven into cloth at a loom using the "weave metal cloth" command. However, are you sure you want to weave the precious resource into cloth? Adamantine clothing is subjected to the same wear as any other clothing, and it's a limited resource.

If your loom is set to take from a linked stockpile the strands would have to be in that stockpile to be accessible to the workshop.

There is a DFhack command though that disables wear for adamantine clothing items. Don't know if it works, but it's listed under the ls command

Then this concerns me... not working. *sighs* and yes, I know it's a finite resource. Some Duchy's just like that Ady Cloak finish ;D

Thanks! From the DFHack Documentation, I believe it goes "tweak adamantine-cloth-wear" - just enabled it. A real hassle knowing that I'll have to remember to turn it on each time I start the game. Either way, let's see how that goes :D

Another thing to be careful of is the fact that Doctors are spectacularly stupid and will use adamantine thread for sutures, which makes the "thread" object slightly smaller (and thus possibly not large enough to weave into cloth).

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.

Thanks, haha - I had a hollow feeling in my gut as the last time I looked for the the Adamantine Threads to test again, I couldn't find them but forgot about them as other stuff happened. Luckily, my hospital's already filled up with Horse Hair, but I'll be cautious now every time there's a scuffle! Thanks again!
