Our settlers in Lower Arb Krud have managed to find silkworms in the forests to the south! Should we ever colonise the east of this territory, which they are calling Eris' Fall, we may take advantage of the local silk. In Tor Nova itself, local farmers have expanded the livestock grazing plains and limited farms up here so that we can accomodate a larger rural population.
Katrin has sent back a glowing report on the plains to the north. Untroubled by the gremlins that harbour in the swamps, these lands are rich in cotton and spicy peppers, but even more importantly she believes she has discovered a natural mana nexus, nestled in the plains. However, as such things often do, the intense concentration of magic has attracted magical creatures. There is a large herd of pegasi, some 100 strong, winged brilliant white horses. They are extremely aggressive and territorial, Katrin reports, and they consider the best location in the plains for a mana site to be theirs by right. Perhaps because of the magic, it is where they keep their young. Katrin doesn't exactly know how they will fare in battle, but she expects them to act like horses - a powerful charge, but one that is also able to pick up targets and hurl them down to earth.
Pathris also brings back news of a definite mana site, and more besides. In the woods of Erisfal, the local mana site is the home of a family of extremely angry trolls, who are unlikely to move without extreme measures. But south of their woods, Pathris has spotted signs of habitation - newly cleared woodcutting camps and small woodland villages belonging to some manner of short, stocky bipeds who wear clothes that help them blend into the woods. They have not noticed Pathris yet, and he would need to enter the woods to be sure of their numbers and defences.
Since we have arrived, our army has been reliant upon noble patronage, and we have finally formalised much of the training procedures with this in mind. Decent swordsmen can at last be fielded now, properly trained. More than this, we have had a suggestion from one of the more radical members of our military - what if, should we head north, we were attacked from the sky? She has formulated a training plan that would allow our spearmen to help guard against hypothesised attacks by pegasi. It would cost more to implement, but here are her suggestions...
