I wonder if the dfhack gaydar can reset marriages.

If so, then the queen + male can be locked in a honeymoon suite, then just change males for each egg batch to ensure.

If starting from a dead civ,
1 queen + male #1 = 1 royal lineage
1 queen + male #2 = 1 royal lineage if dfhack works in removing marriage.

female founder #1 + male #3 = next gene pool
female founder #2 + male #4 = next gene pool

It might be able to. If it can reset a ton of other stuff, why not that?

If eggs are removed from their nest box they won't hatch, but they don't actively need the layer sitting on them. Egg laying civs will eat their own eggs with no problem, if they weren't eating the eggs it's likely that you either made them inedible, they spoiled or were damaged in some way causing them to be labeled as trash, or rng just made it so that they chose every other food item available before they decided to go for the eggs.

Everything is figured out.

I couldn't get the queening syndrome to erase the new queen's family. So, I guess we'll have to be carefull in keeping non consangineous lineages.
If we get stuck. A little DFhacking is OK to save the fortress nest.
I increased the drones lifespan to make sure we can get males marry new queens.

The ratios I set are as follow (more means more often) :
- The queen. Ratio of 1. Lives 2-3 years.
- The drones. Ratio of 10. Lives 8-10 years.
- The soldiers. Ratio of 80. Lives 1-2 years.
- The workers. Ratio of 120. Lives 1 year.

To compensate short lifespan, I altered SKILL_LEARN_RATE :
- Queen and drone learn at 10% normal speed : They are not supposed to be working.
- Soldiers learn military skills at 300% speed, and other skills à 25%.
- Workers are the opposite. 300% learning speed in everything, but military, which are 25%

That way, workers learn quickly. And soldiers fight well faster.
In addition, I also gave soldiers a natural COMPETENT (3/15) skill in every military.

Now, let's talk about sizes ! Adult dwarf is 60000.
- Workers are 40000
- Soldier are 70000 (human size). They also have a natural high Strength, Endurance, Agility, Toughness.
- Drones are 40000. They have wings and are FLYER.
- Queen is fat. 200000. Probably because she's full of eggs. Eggs clutch size is a random number from 20 to 40.

With clutch size of ~30. 4 hatches per year, one queend could give ~360 ants in 3 years.
So I don't think we'll need the queening items. But I made them anyway.

I Made a custom building : the Ant transformation altar.
You can turn workers / soldiers into queen / drone in the Ant transformation altar.
It will create a cloud that injects a SYNDROME into the ants.
For ORIENTATION purposes, you should only turn workers into queens and soldiers into drones. Otherwise, you end up with a gay drone or queen. Which sucks for breeding.

I might change ants to be carnivore only, but allow them to eat INTELLIGENT creatures (so sieges = food)

I haven't decided yet the recipes for the queening / droning items.
Suggestions are welcome.

We're getting there. I'll gen a world soon, and roll dices until we have queen / drone in our starting 7.
How should I gen the world ? Where should we embark ?

How about golden nest box for queening, and silver chain for drones?

+1 For this.

And I say let them eat sieges. Mmm. Goblin Roasts.

Isn't the ability to eat sentients still broken?

You can use DfHack's gui/gm-editor to remove the dead_dwarf flag from sentient corpses. Should be fine.

I thought about the caste sytem (workers / soldiers / super soldiers). It is easy to implement. I will probably do it :)

But I believe 1 year lifespan is enough for workers. Maybe soldiers can live a litle longer... But not workers.
Because if you think about it, [MAXAGE:1] means you can leave "2 years". The year of your birth, and the full next year. (so if born in granite, year 15, you die on 28 Obsidian, year 16. This is ~24months of life).
Part of the Fun of the fortress is to have many deaths to deal with.
I'm all for a faster learning curve though.

I think ratios should be 60-30-10. Because we'll want soldiers to attack the world. Maybe it is too much workers. IDK.

I don't know if I can change the eggs laying frequency. I would love to. But I believe eggs take ~2,5 months to hatch.
Hence the 4 times a year births.
If you know a way, I will defenitely do that !

What else ? Yay. Queen won't live 20 years... Way too cheaty / easy.
It is a succession game, I want players to have to figure a way to produce queens.
I think it'll be easy enough to produce 1 queening item every 3 years.
And I like the idea to have several queens that players can dorf.

It'd make more sense to have actual ants rather than dwarfs.

Sure.
What about 5 years for a queen, also make it so that they only need to mate once to lay 1000 eggs (drone will die after mating)

The drone has to be present every time a queen lays eggs, the egg laying mechanics are hard coded so we can't really do much about it.

Is it possible to freely assign drones to cage traps?

A male in a cage adjacent to a nest box has been known to be enough to fertilizer egg in that configuration.

Aren't Soldier ants carnivorous?

Technically most ants are omnivores, but there are plenty of ants that aren't. Considering the fact that I think we're going with ant like dwarves and not straight ant men I'm not sure how to apply realism to this issue.

Remember, remove the dead-dwarf flag on sentient corpses with gm-editor.
