Design: NAF-UH-51 "Draft"
The Utility Helicopter Draft is Nogrania's first helicopter, based off of existing helicopter designs from across the world. It uses a new turboshaft engine in order to provide sufficient reliable power for its operation. It has thin armor to allow it to land in hostile areas without someone shooting a pistol through the armor, killing the pilot; though we recommend that pilots don't try to land it in enemy-infested areas. The main cabin comes equipped with some simple tea-making facilities because we are not barbarians, thank you. Two machinegun-style mounts (of course empty FOR NOW) are put in place in doors to allow for some degree of self-defense/combat capability.
In order to serve its purpose, it's a relatively large helicopter - not huge, but enough to carry a decent amount of cargo. It comes equipped with mountings for cargo and people. The Draft is completely unarmed, though there's the possibility for soldiers to shoot out of the flying helicopter. The Draft should be used to transport goods [TC] and people.
Very Hard Difficulty: 4The
NAF-UH-51 "Draft" is not only Nogrania's first helicopter, it's our first turboshaft and our first foray into jet technology.
The Draft attempts to mimic other helicopters recently developed in larger countries while simultaneously improving upon them with our brand-new turboshaft, coined the NAF-TS-51 "Shire". The Draft requires two Shire turboshafts to provide adequate horsepower to the main rotor and generate enough lifting power to get itself - and a small load - off the ground. The Draft has room for a single pilot and up to five additional passengers, allowing it to move troops around quickly. The tail boom extends from the base of the main fuselage at an angle to put the tail rotor level with the main rotor and allow yawing during flight. The Draft uses a tricycle-style fixed landing gear and features two empty pintle mounts where Wickers-style machineguns could be mounted in the doors - though mounting would decrease the passenger capacity by two.
The Draft has a tendency to enter unrecoverable rolls in inclement weather, especially during high winds. It is unarmored due to weight restrictions, and to further enable lift capacity the frame and body is largely made of aluminum construction. Intelligence suggests that our new Shire turboshaft engines are as powerful as Toskesh's, though ours requires more fuel for the same level of horsepower. The turboshafts also have an unfortunate tendency to "flame-out" in wet weather, which can cause fatal crashes. Due to the relatively low lift capacity and poor fuel economy, the Draft is not feasible to provide TC. Due to the heroic efforts of our design team, the Draft is
not COMPLEX in nature.
A small water-heating station and cup holder in the cockpit allows the pilot to brew tea on the go. This has been lauded as the most valuable component, and has caused Draft pilots to become popular with other soldiers. 4 Ore, 5 Oil, 1 Cobalt, 1 Aluminum.
