I just downloaded the game on my android phone. weird that's its paperclips but anyway it's a fun idea.

the paperclips is an explicit reference to a particular idea, discussed in the spoilers above. worth finishing the game first though (as it's not too long).

It's amusing to me how LessWrong managed to make that page about Yudakowski, even though he wrote roughly 2 and a half essays on the subject, a decade too late.
Also, that's not the analogy motorbitch was making/noting.

not sure i follow. it says bostrom originated the concept and cites one work by yudkowsky. bostrom's most recent book cites yudkowsky on every other page. seems like a normal basic introduction to the idea to me.

One of those is relevant. The other is Yudkowsky boasting he managed to outsmart a guy off the internet. Twice. (nvm. He did do it. Click on the numbered links, they actually provide a proper log of the conversation (before and after the box only) unlike that horrible 90s semi-forum thread that the main links go to.)

Edit: this all sounds like I am attacking Yudkowsky, and I am not- He is a brilliant philosopher, and a smarter person that I could even hope to be. I just remarked on how much LW are his fanboys.

Coincidentally, a recent twitter thread shows that Yudkowsky himself is unsure that either he or Bostrom came up with the paperclips thing, though the earliest recorded mention is him.
