Managed to lose another character late game, this time because I underestimated caustic shrikes until way too late. Doesn't help that I found only 1 or 2 scrolls of blinking the whole game, but that death was totally avoidable if I slowed down before I was at 6hp.

Also, that character was started when nobody had won with a centaur or hunter yet, would have been worth a ton of points...

Really bungled a good one here, a GrCJ.  I wasn't sure whether pan runes were announced when you hit a level, so I ended up clearing probably 10 levels and picked up an amazing amount of mutations.  It didn't really matter until a berserk hangover finally caught up to me.  Wu Jian Council is insane if you have the defenses for it.  Pretty disappointing but 3/4 Pan runes isn't bad for my first real effort collecting those.

Caustic Shrikes are evil, they are an insta tele for me if there are more than 1 or 2.

Won with my octopode; had a close call with an executioner apparently you can't really force lance them off of you.

Thanks for your advice! Managed to clear dungeon and orc with my GrEE. Orc loot and shops was totally underwhelming. Still no usable rC+ and rF+

Caustic shrikes are terrifying.

I'm playing an unarmed specialist, and the damage rolls are still ridiculous. Miss 11 times and then oneshot a unique with more hp than me. I maxed dex  ;D

I have managed to die horribly a few times, and die deservedly a few times, and die a few more times. Remind me to never speak positively about an RC combo ever again - ever since I said SpEn were powerful way bavk months ago, I cant bring them home - I suck so bad  :-[

I feel like I've hit a wall, or at the very least the game is punishing me for my early success.  Last couple of games I've been getting stuff like ettins on D:9 and other various other early game stuff driving me nuts.  Though I think my latest game is taking the cake.  Down to D:8, cursed halberd stuck in my hand with no rc, living off vampiric draining.  Best part was a sequence where a very heavily orc infested d:5, combined with my boegh-worshipping character, got down to fainting before having to take a near suicide run to the only revealed ration on the map at like 20 HP, with a jelly and ice beast hot on his heels. 

So, yeah, thrills, spills and the occasional excruciating stairdance over here.

I am not doing nearly as well as last year, only even gotten to the Lair a few times. I think part of it is that I've been trying a lot of different characters, though. I should go back to the classic Tab-stompers and see how it goes.

Shit, I just realised - I bet Gastronok was wearing a hat... all those times during the game I 'Ctrl-f'ed for a hat, and I forgot to check my exclusions.

Never really found a good dagger, then bought  "Gyre" and "Gimble" (only quickblade generated), then realised I should have at least rF for Zot, and had to ditch GandG for a buckler, so I just made a half decent electro dagger instead - I think Zot scrollls increased its enchantment from like, +4 all the way to +9, so it worked out ok (of course I found a shitty rF dagger in Zot, just to make me roll my eyes even harder). Still, not a terrible game.

Mistakes:
  • too much spellcasting skill - always knew this would just be a 3, maybe 4 if sent to Abyss runer, so no real need to finish the game with 24 rations. This was my first real Sp caster in this food simplified version though, so I guess better safe than sorry.
  • Not taking my stupid hat from Gastro.
  • Not very focused skilling - should have stuck with ice after I found a manual, or at least transfered some skill to earth.
  • Not finding LRD, passwall or Malign Gateway. Ah well, even checked under the elven sofa, but nothing.
