Hey folks,

I'm getting a really weird error - DF is claiming it isn't compatible with my PC, but I've run the game on this system before. Currently I'm running on a Windows 10 laptop.

Try just running dwarf fortress without newbie packs or anything. Does that work?

It should run. I've played DF on some pretty old hardware and it's never given me much issue.

Did you download the correct version (32bit / 64bit)?

It might be helpful to know about your "System Type" in you System properties and see if it's "x86-based", "x64-based", or "ARM-based".

To get here I think you right click "My Computer" and go to "Properties".

Try both 32 bit and 64 bit versions. Same error?

Then you need to download the 32-bit version of Dwarf Fortress - attempting to run a 64-bit program on a 32-bit bersion of Windows is known (and expected) to fail in exactly the manner you described in your original post.

What exactly does "the game" mean? If it was an older version, it's possible you were (properly) running the 32-bit version (and if that older version was 0.43.03 or earlier, then it's guaranteed to have been 32-bit because 64-bit builds didn't exist until version 0.43.04).

This issue has been solved, fellas, I downloaded the 32 bit game and overwrote the 64 bit version of LNP and it is now running like the terrible blood, guts, pus and piss stained mess that makes DF so beautiful.

Thank you very much for tolerating my PC illiteracy, and thank your so much for your help - I'm really grateful. I will express my gratitude by going and being mostly incompetent in the greatest game ever to exist.
