The combat goes incredibly quickly. Your beanalk rushes in with vigor and intensity, hitting one of the rats with the full brunt of its body. The attack does 6 damage and the rat explodes in a rain of gore and giblets. Eggplantitan does an alluring dance and the rat stares at that tasty fruit creature as it jiggles about. While distracted, an artillery of poisonous spores rains down on the rat from the two mroons! Choking on the horrible spores, the rat collapses and suffocates. Victory is yours!

You look around the basement and discover its less like a basement and more like a whole additional layer to the cooky building. Torches mysteriously light and extinguish themselves as you approach and exit their vicinity. This creates a weird and kind of spooky ambiance as you're never able to see more than a few feet in either direction. You are at a split in the hallway, where you can turn left or right. It appears that off to the left is some larger area, while the right path leads you deeper into the underground system.

The party splits and heads in two directions. Selaphiel and Ashe head left with their mroon and eggplantitan. John and Tario head right deeper into the caverns.

Selaphiel and Ashe find a large area with several containers and boxes and barrels. Two rats have knocked over a crate and 3 Ancient Jerky lay across the floor. The rats each eat one and seem much much friendlier towards you all of a sudden, then they skitter off as something larger moves slowly behind the nearby crates! Thump-thump, thump-thump...

John, Tario, a mroon and a beankalk follow the path to the right. The lights flicker on before you and off after you. Its still spooky and you're beginning to think that something is lurking right behind you. After a bit of walking you hear something approach, you ready for a fight, but two happy looking rats sprint past you. Luckilly nothing jumps out at- BOOOOooOOOoooOOOOOoo!!!!

Does poison work on ghosts? Let's find out! I'm not paying enough attention. A moment, please.
Take the jerky and get ready for whatever's coming.

Ghosts are totally immune to physical attacks aren't they?, well time to utilize entangling vines on one of those Ghost, the one that is closer to us of course and gets poisoned

Ash and Selaphiel  prepare for combat, grabbing the jerky and warming up their dance moves. Their preparation pays off well when a monsterous creature skitters forward. At first you don't know what to make of it, it looks like a bunch of gross veiny meat, undulating and thumping, and then you get it. Its a huge human heart! And it looks pretty freaking angry, at least, as angry as a giant heart and collection of abnormally limb-like veins and arteries can look.

Meanwhile elsewhere Peter and Winston John and Tario were hunting some ghosts. It was mildly more difficult than fighting rats, though a whole lot spookier. The two veggies used their special attacks on the nearest ghost and found that while it was extremely squishy, almost like a watery marshmellow, they were mostly physical beings. Entangled and poisoned, the first ghost goes from spooky to horrified, then horrifying! It shreaks and squaks and makes the most stereotypical ghost noises imaginable, but cannot break free from the vines. The second ghost tackles beanalk for a measly 1 damage. The tackle feels wet and moist and, ugh, if it wasn't so pathetic, you'd be demoralized just by how unpleasant it was.

Yep, I suspected a heart. "Thump-thump, thump-thump".

Extend some jerky. If that doesn't work, use poison powder. Also, my mushroom dude is now officially named Toad.
