We thought they were clay pigeons.

Wow. You aim is so bad that you were sending jet fighters after what you thought were clay pigeons? I guess the rumors about you are true, putting aside the atrocious implications towards resource management

We thought it was the next Elite Fighter Pilot Training Exercise.

It takes some skill to hit a cold, nonmetallic clay pigeon with a heatseeking or radar-guided missile, after all.

So you believed that someone outside your organization was training you? Well in that case how about you come out, there's a new exercise for dodging oncoming plasma fire going on.

It's not a true training exercise unless it's a surprise from Command, you amateurs.

Your leadership probably ALSO tells you about surprise inspections ahead of time, don't they?

We do not employ your Earth Surprise Inspections. Everything we do is already perfect. Every individual is a flawless cog in the beautiful machine.

I see we're fighting Halo's Covenant.

What's next, do you need humanity in order to set off ancient apocalypse machines because you aren't good enough as a [collection of?] species?

We aren't the halo's covenant...But please, all we want is some of your genetic material and your undying loyalty, in exchange we will cure all your diseases and make a utopia on your world...After all, you shot first.

That one doesn't count, as it was fought on very unfair terms...and I don't think you got anything outside of a few bits of scrap out of it.
