Even if he's a spy it's no immediate danger to you. And don't go around murdering elves for no reason, that's a shitty meme with no basing in the game.

its not a meme tho...i mean the elves in the game are huge dicks and the community dislikes them because of that..and the elves versus dwarves thing is literally one of the founding blocks of fantasy media as a whole. not to mention the fact that elves vs dwarves continues the age old narrative of nature vs technology, pragmatism vs idealism, jews vs nazies and so on and so on.

Too many words. Just stab the elf.

Why discuss? Stab the elf.
He certainly is a dwarf in an elf's body, who longs to join the ranks of other dwarves. Such things happen. There is a race correction surgery which can help him. It starts with height adjustment. It's not a murder.
Tho, you know that as a Dwarf it is your duty to end his life anyway no matter the reason of his being there.

I stand by my point.

In light of the recent updates elves are a lot more useful as a neighbor, though. While they can harass you with unsolicited visitors, everyone else can too.

It's the goblins that got extremely obnoxious. I think they can visit your fortress either as a spy or a questing visitor, and as soon as alcohol enters their system, they start an argument with someone.

Problem is that, according to the goblin ethics, they must always fight out an argument. I ended up murdering every goblin visitors after discovering that.

Yeah, it barely turned summer and my fortress is already crawling with elves. I haven't even finished digging the place out yet. Is this normal??

0.44.01-02 suffers from an unchecked influx of artifact hunters that ignore visitor caps. So if you have a lot of elves in the world/nearby yes, that's probably the current normal. Personally I'm waiting for it to be fixed before starting a real embark (FPS of 18 after 1 year with 13 dorfs).

Yeah my FPS at 21, halfway through year 1 with 11 dwarves..

Is there a way to edit them out of my save? There's 63 of them in that little room now, and they're starting to go enraged. I guess because it's too crowded?

Up to 72 now.. I'm honestly starting to consider building a large drawbridge into the wall and making myself some elven wine...

I've had some mild success with this script in 0.43.05.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Works on the selected unit (not a group), and obviously requires DFHack. I don't know if the script has any long term effects.
Units socializing don't seem to take up the cue to leave, so you'd probably have to close down the meeting facilities for it to (possibly) work, and it obviously does nothing to block new hordes from arriving.

Thanks for the script, but I already went through with making a drawbridge in the room and trapping them all in there.

But was the dwarven atom smasher nerfed? I put on my best mad scientist grin and gave the instruction to throw the switch, but then nothing got vaporized like I expected (wanted) it to...

So I've now got the lever set up on a repeating Pull task, and for three in-game days now the elves are getting thrown around and repeatedly slammed into each other without much else really happening. It's not nearly as cool and gruesome as I wanted it to be. Though I guess having six-dozen elves tossing around in what is basically a giant clothes dryer isn't totally un-cool.

I wanted to kill all of these jokers to get my framerate out of the dumpster, but it's going to take forever at this rate. There's a bit of blood on the ground, but that appears to be from a shield that one elf dropped being tossed around and whacking people. It's not doing any real damage, just causing bruises that their clothing is mostly protecting them from..

Atom smashing only happens when you smash. It sounds like you've built a retracting bridge rather than a raising one, more or less creating a coin star sans coins. Also, smashing only happens on the downwards path, while the upwards one tosses the victims (unless they're at the "rotation" row, in which case they can be (will be?) smashed when the bridge is raised as well.

Can confirm that flinging elves around a room constantly via bridge-apult is in fact, very cool.

I built it on the East wall and set it to "Raise ->" which is the correct way to do it, right? I've had dwarves continually flipping the switch to repeatedly raise and lower it for 8 in-game days now. I knew raising it will just flip them, but thought that it should atomize them on the downswing..

A few elves have died now because their clothes are coming off and they're getting impaled by their cloth hoods and socks LOL.

This is Koträsråsh, it is an artifact figurine of an elf, the elf is dead. All craftsmanship is of the highest quality. It menaces with spikes of cloth.

For reals this is way better than stabbing.

Do we have an award for most innovative elf removal technique? Because a system that automatically stabs them with their own clothing is quite the accomplishment.

They're finally all dead after 8 days of tossing around. There's robes, teeth, ears, shields, arrows, and possibly more vomit than there is blood.

This poor guy got his head exploded by a cotton cloak:

When we embarked my dwarves named this fort "Roombeast." I couldn't have forseen that the Roombeast would be a room-sized drawbridge that chewed on elves like stale beef jerky.

Also, FWIW, I gave the room a couple more smashes after the elves were dead and none of the bodies or gear got atomized. So the guy above is probably right that it turned out being a retracting bridge instead of a raised one.

When initially deciding that I was gonna atomize all of my "distinguished" guests, I had designed, cancelled, and redesigned the bridge a few times before finally letting it be constructed. I must have forgotten to specify the raise direction the final time I designed it, and caused it to be a default retracting bridge.

I'm OK with that, though.. I think it made a better story for my engravers to carve onto items in the future..  ;D It's also pretty funny to imagine a room full of elves constantly having the floor yanked out from underneath them like a bad magician pulling on a tablecloth and yanking all the dishes off the table with it!
