Tengoku no Owari (Again) OOC
« on: December 07, 2017, 03:39:36 am »

Seriously? Another one?
Yeah uh, the plan was to run this on another forum, but... let's just say there were some technical problems and most of the players already had Bay12 accounts. So...

Hmn... fuck it, I want in on this.

Feywilds Aethertide, Capitalism, ho + Knight Errant, Form Shift (maybe + Jackass). At least, that's my votes.

Uh, just as a heads up Glass, this game is already full and the location and details have been locked. Ragnarok just, has found a new hobby of making sign up sheets for already full games, including full games he's currently in. If there are any changes I'll contact you, though I do have multiple people apparently interested in this RPG-equivalent of a burning landfill.

:(

I actually completely missed that the OP was from Dec 7. I just saw the thread on the front page and decided I wanted to join. :/

Mind telling me the setting/quest decisions, though?

You can blame Ragnarok for that :P

The players ended settling on Sendo City, with the Quests of Knight Errant, Seek and Destroy, Capitalism, Ho!, Reagan's Fortune (minus Reagan), with a bit of Feng Shui. Modifiers are Form Shift, Marked for Death, Jackass, and possibly The Farce.

Quote
Faznie and Tor are just entering Sendo, Faznie in search of a muse, or perhaps already with a project in mind, Tor seeking to stop the machinations of the Card Emperors. A tip-off leads to Sasha and Immanuel joining forces with the pair to halt an assassination attempt on Tor, embroiling them all with the hunt for rare cards that hold the sealed power of various historical figures within them, sought after not only by the Card Emperors but also various other malevolent factions who seek to abuse their powers.

By channeling the power of the cards, the PCs will be able to take on their aspects to assist them with their quest (once they actually acquire them at least).

In addition, these enigmatic contacts of the party are willing to lend their services and resources to combat this threat, for a price. They have unknown goals pertaining to Sendo City, and in exchange for services rendered, often dealng with the placement of monuments and such, they will lend their aid.

I am aware that I am probably never entering this game. That said, could I get some feedback on Jack? I'd just like to know if he'd even be allowed in if a spot opened up, or if he's too over- or under-powered (or just doesn't fit the group, I guess).

He's got a pretty neat build and is fine save for the fact that Dead Man's Hand is going to be an Excel Hyper (at the very least, may have to have additional conditions fixed to it to accommodate its raw power), or like have the additional requirement it requires Resolve expenditure on top of the result burning, due to the sheer balls to the wall insanity a potentially 54-card barrage is going to unleash.

Well, assuming the idea is that he uses like, one or two cards a turn in exchange for powerful effects. If he's throwing out entire hands but the individual card effects are weaker than yeah, that'll be fine.

52 cards (no Jokers, of course), but yeah, I can see why that could be an issue...
The main issue is that yes, it's got a shit-ton of raw power, but there's basically no way to control it. It's kinda like setting off a nuke by hand.

Would it make more sense to take the top 5 cards off the deck and throw those? Or at least, would it balance it? Again, it's 5 totally random cards and basically impossible to control other than pointing it at your enemies and hoping it doesn't hit you as well, but it's presumably not as much OP monstrousness as literally throwing the whole deck at someone and creating an uncontrollable maelstrom.

As for the deck, it's supposed to be that low-value (Edit: mid-value, I'd say 5s and 6s are the minimum you need for combat-worthy effects; below is just basic utilities) cards are used for normal effects (fireball, gusts of wind, etc.) while the face cards and such are reserved for emergencies, times where you need a lot of power, or occasions where you know for certain there'll be time for everything to recharge. Remember, each card takes its value in hours to be usable again, and the faces take 11. That was also part of the drawback of the original DMH: the deck isn't going to be usable at anything even approaching full power for a good 6 hours.

Throwing a few works, and still would be a [6] just from unpredictability yeah.

36 combat worthy effects at once at the cost of being fairly unpredictable, partially the disabling Regalia for quite a while... hmm... eugh... that is going to be a borderline case. In game I'd call it a [6] in that case and see if it works. Though my preference would be to not have to track resources in term of hours and whatnot... which would push a full deck throw it into Excel Hyper territory.

It's likely rare that I'd ever actually be throwing all of those once, actually. It's pretty much guaranteed that I'd have already used a good number of cards already, and that I'm getting desperate. I'd estimate that I'm likely to have only half my combat-worthy deck left if I'm using it.
As for hours, feel free to substitute keeping track of that for "they recharge when narratively convenient". Only thing to say on that is that higher-power cards take longer to do recharge than lower-power ones (of course).

And yeah, it was already a [6].
