Hey everyone!  Hope y'all are enjoying the Steam version, or at least the stories from all the newbies :)  'Thob goes to the surface' reaches 9 votes a full month past its' deadline, which means it unfortunately does not make the cut.  Perhaps next time.  And that's all for now.  Stay warm out there.

That's a shame.

Well, maybe later a new try.

Sorry guys, I know it sucks when something gets close near the end.  But you can always nominate again, though I don't know how active this forum is right now.

I expect there will be a lot more succession games on Reddit, and some sort of cut-off of interest between graphical and old DF. Just like we rarely go back to read 2D DF stories. I'm looking forward to the new wave of stories.

Happy Winter my fellow Dorfs :) I hope you all brewed sufficient booze before the deep freeze.  Thob takes another crack at the title.  Given the short time since its' last nomination ended (less than a week) and relative rush at the end (5 votes in a week), I am going to exercise my executive authority here, and I encourage everyone to speak up if you think this is fair.  Maloy's nomination puts this story on the roster, but will not count towards the vote total.  Since I have stopped allowing nominees to sit here for years on end, this is the first time a re-submission has been given this fast, so there is no precedent to speak of.  If we find ourselves here in a year with 9 votes, then I will reconsider.

And that's probably all we'll get this year.  Until next time folks.

Apologies for going ahead and nominating again since there wasn't a deadline of how long you must wait I just assumed it would be fine to go ahead and traffic has picked up a fair bit more thanks to Steam Release.

I personally would like it to continue or do something similar, and in that case I would be on board for discounting the nominating vote(mine) and even raising the required total.

I can speak that the story in particular had a lasting impact on me personally. It and the museum convinced me to truly try to tackle the complex nature of adventure mode and dig past the simplistic dialogue even to the extent of starting my own adventure mode story on this particular forum. It also really got me to start writing creatively again which is something I haven't done in so long (my journal is made up almost entirely of to do lists, random notes and numbers). So I've just been sitting around thinking about Thob and thought "I really wanna give back to Loam for the entertainment and world he built for me to enjoy"

Also from what I've seen necroing old threads is strongly discouraged here, and so with the current forum layout unless it either gets in hall of legends or gets occasionally bumped to the top it seems impossible for it to have a lasting community impact that exceeds 6 months unless I or someone else does this exact same thing later on.

I also understand the logic of wanting to keep the hall of legends reserved for those who win by a notable margin as to keep it cream of crop, and so is there a middle ground we could reach too?

If we wait a year it basically means one of us has to either remember to do so, as it will sink many pages below visibility, or set a calendar reminder. Either way it being nominated later seems like it might be done either trivially or with the same mind that I had in either case I feel it doesn't accomplish the goal of limiting.

I have absolute respect for whatever decision is settled on and promise to be an adult about it I just love Thob's story truly!
