A design for the future, if the Grizzly works out well. Chiefwaffles asked for a paradigm shift, and this is... pretty MAD stuff.

The Phase Engine
We've discovered something at the DUC. Calling it a molecule is premature, as this discovery represents a potential classification of compounds beyond the structure of known chemistry. For preliminary studies, my team has taken to calling the discovered structures 'Pontemes'; after the latin word for bridge. We discovered them when testing theoretical charge carrying structures for use in newer variants of electrogel, it was tentative work and yielded nothing particularly actionable- until we noticed a mass discrepancy in batch K-8802. Batch K-8802 had demonstrated strikingly low charge carrying ability, returning far less energy than expected during trials, and had been written off as one more possible formulation eliminated. The mass gain, however, was inexplicable. Initial hypothesis was experimental error, naturally, but the same error was shown in every sample of batch K-8802. More than that, the mass discrepancies worsened over time. I cannot stress that statement enough. Four separate, fully sealed, canisters of K-8802 were put on precision scales, with no contact, and the mass of all four canisters exhibited increases in mass. I trust that command is sufficiently acquainted with the basic laws of physics to understand that this should not be possible. And yet it occurred, and the phenomenon was able to be reproduced by synthesizing more electrogel to K-8802's formula and putting it through an identical number of charge and discharge cycles.

We went into the project with an open mind, but what we discovered is still difficult to put to pen without my mind balking slightly at the concept. We isolating the components withing K-8802's formula, and weighed each against its expected mass profile. All were perfect matches, except for the molecule that had been intended to be our chemoelectric capacitor- the molecule we'd dubbed deficient. It massed more than four times what it was expected to, and yet every attempt to verify its chemical structure succeeded. We could identify no addition to the compound, no large change in its structure, no rogue atom or secondary molecule attached- it was as if the protons, neutrons, and electrons that made of K-8802's charge carrier had suddenly increased in mass. Preposterous as this was, we attempted to test by breaking the compound down and weighing the resulting substructures. The result, in each case of division, was that most of the divided pieces returned to their expected mass, while a single subsection of the molecule retained all of the extra phantom mass. Examination of these superheavy substructures in suspension revealed that there was something more at work here than increased mass. They interacted with one another without contact, the famed 'spooky' action at a distance. We struggled to come up with a new hypothesis to capture these findings, and largely fell back on bickering over quantum gravity and eddy-effects- until one of the junior leads proposed a simpler and more elegant conclusion: the substructures were not interacting in an unusual way, they were interacting in a perfectly normal manner using additional massed structures we were unable to detect.

I won't bore you further with the tests we ran after that, or the flurry of activity that followed, but we have come to a working theory. The charge carrier for batch K-8802 gained mass because it bonded with a molecule in another dimension- sharing mass across the border and becoming the first ponteme. The bonding process continued until nearly all of the original charge carriers were converted, a process that we've been able to replicate and expedite. The hard part is getting a single ponteme, after that, they spread like a prion into like molecules, spreading rapidly. While the practical applications of this technology are endless, we have on idea in particular that we think the military might be keen on.

We might be able to construct a device that would allow a unit running on electrogel to phase shift, cutting into the dimension of the ponteme for a limited period of time. This interaction is difficult to explain, and was first discovered when we accidentally vanished a tank of modified electrogel for nearly four hours. As far as we can tell, such an action would effectively delete the unit from existence as we know it. There would be no heat signature, no visual image, nothing. For our purposes, it would not exist- until such time as the charge carrier ran dry of electrical potential. While the apparatus needed to operate this technology would be of considerable size, we believe that the new Grizzly mech would be capable of fitting it easily.  Outfitted with this system, and a limited number of pontemic electrogel canisters, it would be able to vanish from the battlefield, reappearing when the charge in the pontemic runs dry.

So, since grizzly won the vote and we are doing propaganda, I decided to learn animation. What I could do in the CAD programme was limited to simple back and forth movement (which you saw last time), so I am in the process of importing all pieces to Blender and setting up the armature system for movement. Meanwhile, here is some work in progress below, in which the rocket arm spins like a machinegun! ( I had frames to fill)

ME-MAS-62 'Grizzly Armor'

Our lack of proper vehicular armor has been a detriment to our forces for far too long, and now we will address this with the Grizzly Armor. The Grizzly Armor can be more or less summed up as a vastly upscaled Bear Armor, to the point where we can no longer classify it as power armor, but as a vehicle instead; a Mechanized Assault Suit. The Grizzly is large, and its pilot resides in the control pod in the Suit's chest; it's large enough where it'll likely have to crouch to work its way through excavator tunnels, with an estimated height a bit higher than 4 meters. The pilot wears a special suit hooked up to the Suit's control system, translating the pilots movement to the Suit in a manner similar to the Bear Armor (although with 100% less worry of accidentally mulching the pilot's limbs!).

The arms are modular for their armament, although the 'off hand' arms usually have a hand on them; Arm modules include a Bumblebee with recoil dampeners; a massive Shield much like our Bear Troopers wield for the 'off hand'; and a smaller buckler to allow the arm to still perform semi-intricate tasks easily. All modules other than the Shield and Cannon possess a pair of Velociraptor Autocannon or a vehicle ICE Thrower as well for anti-infantry use. Said weapons modules come with an autoloader, meant to load shells in from frankly quite massive clips which themselves can be reloaded by the 'off hand'. There's also a rocket arm loaded with SARUKH compatible rockets as well. Modularity allows new weapon systems to be mounted easily on older grizzlys.

Armor wise, the Grizzly features a heavy duty 120mm on the frontal chest plate with 75mm on the sides and rear of it, protecting the pilot well; and the rest of the Suit features 75mm. The armour and the shield likewise are made of COMBAT plating to offer greater resistance. On top of the COMBAT armour there is an additional 30 mm mangalloy plate to absorb smaller weapon fire without degrading the underlying COMBAT

Due to recent experiences with heat and long term experience with handling cold stuff, the interior of the suit has a climatization system. Heating is provided by electrical resistances, while cooling is provided by a small reservoir of STABIL-ICE. This should give limited surviveability to minor ICE spills and allow to soak up the heat generated by COMBAT, by the environment and by enemy weapons.

Following previous experience on the grizzly project, hydraulic motors are swapped for electrogel powered electric engines. Besides the "control" electrogel around the pilot, the rest power storage is concentrated mostly in a large reservoir in the back. Efforts are made to simplify recharge and to increase storage.

Finally, their are no direct viewports, instead the 'head' of the Suit possesses the end of a fiberscope, the output of which is displayed towards a helmet the pilot wears; granting them vision while not having a glaring weakspot in the chest pod's defenses.
Design: ME-MAS-62 'Grizzly Armor'
(Normal) (4+2) = 6: Above Average

Thanks to our last attempt at this combined with the creation of (however mediocre it is) rechargeable Electrogel, this iteration of Grizzly Armor has been much easier to handle than before.

Using the skeleton created from the last endeavor, we replaced the hydraulic motors with Rechargeable Electrogel ones. Electrogel "conduits" leading from the motion suit in the torso's cockpit to their respective motors allow for direct translation of pilot movement to Grizzly movement. As the Grizzly isn't exactly similar to a human in its shape/movement and is generally more awkward to move, training pilots is tough. We've had a lot of toppled Grizzlies in our testing, and now ensure that the proper methods of movement inside Grizzly Armor is covered in pilot training.
The pilot sees outside the suit via an optical fiber scope leading from points in the "head" of the Grizzly to the motion suit. It's not amazing and the entire mech has to rotate in order to look around, but it allows for non-awful visibility without weakpoints. Grizzly pilots are instructed that they should never allow the enemy to approach from behind, as a running human can keep up with the turning speed of the Grizzly and continuously damage it without repercussion. This limits the skirmishing effectiveness as the Grizzly - if left without support, we don't predict great effectiveness. But as long as it remains with other forces and infantry on the front lines, it should be fine.

The rest of the cockpit is, well, small. The pilot stands in their motion suit, where movement is translated directly into Grizzly movement. They're held suspended in-air in order to allow for a full range of movement. Even our trained pilots can experience trouble piloting the Grizzly, as the only method of feedback they have is the fiberscope and muffled sound. Pilots have to be veeeerrry careful when moving if they don't want to trip on something and knock the entire suit down, and monitoring damage levels is very difficult as they can't easily appraise their own armor/hull.
The pilot's face isn't covered, and the view from the fiberscope is in front of them embedded in the wall of the cockpit. When they "turn", it feels like turning and the suit turns, but the actual pilot doesn't turn. A radio is embedded for communications. Heating and STABIL-ICE-based cooling are provided.

Conventional batteries line the back of the Grizzly. While Electrogel holds its own charge, this effectively serves as backup charge allowing the Grizzly to remain effective even when away from infrastructure. For a bit, at least.
Like Bear Armor, the Grizzly's Electrogel can last for 8 hours on a full charge. Its batteries provide enough backup energy for another 8 hours, but it has to spend time recharging from battery. We had some extra time in the project, so we improved rechargeable Electrogel to the point where it takes just as long to charge as the time it was used - 2 hours of usage means 2 hours of charging. Still mildly annoying, but it's good enough that our generals won't have to ration Grizzlies on the battlefield to keep them charged.

The weapon modules were easy to implement. Pretty much every weapon we have can be mounted on one of its arms, including a Sarukh-based arm with the capacity for 6 ICE rockets. Future weapons with a vehicle version will likely be able to be easily fit onto the Grizzly.

In terms of armor, the Grizzly does great. We believe that a single shot from Aratam's battle tank would destroy the external Mangalloy easily, but the COMBAT plating stops it from doing real damage. We expect that the majority of the COMBAT plating in roughly a meter area would melt. Integrated STABIL-ICE cooling doesn't do much to prevent this, but it does cool the damaged armor to regular levels quickly enough so that consequent shots aren't more damaging than usual. Another Hydra cannon shot in the same area would likely pierce the armor, but not devastatingly so; a second Hydra shot would likely end up embedding itself in the back layer of armor. This can pierce Electrogel connections, damage motors, or kill the pilot; enough to hurt combat effectiveness of the Grizzly, but the shot could very well miss anything important.
A third Hydra cannon shell, however, in the same spot, would surely destroy the Grizzly from the kinetic energy. It'll likely leave behind a surprisingly intact wreck, as the remaining COMBAT plating often prevents the entire suit from being destroyed. But all the internals will be gone.
Their personal Ospreys' coilgun-assisted shots can do tiny bits of damage to the armor, though not by much. If a single Grizzly was swarmed by Aratamites, it could be destroyed. But generally, we don't need to worry about infantry rifles unless there's a compromised section of COMBAT plating that can be exploited. Their flak tank could do notable damage to the armor, but aren't expected to be problems as they'll be focusing on infantry and can be destroyed before any real damage is done in most situations.

The Grizzly is relatively slow -- slower than their tank (but faster than a person), at least -- and is a very big target, but it can very well tank hits. Pilots are warned to be aware of the suit staggering backwards or even falling over after being shot by a Hydra, but to otherwise attempt to use cover (though there's rarely Grizzly-sized cover in most places), agility, and first-strikes to their advantage. An ICE missile can still do wonders against a Hydra. Confrontations with enemy armor are not guaranteed to go in our favor, and if their Hydras outnumber our Grizzlies in any particular battle (without external support), we can't expect a victory.
But in general, we expect a hefty armor advantage barring anything unexpected from Aratam. Just not an ironclad advantage. The Grizzly may be an extremely impressive replacement for a main battle tank, but Aratam's tank isn't anything to laugh at.

The Grizzly, with COMBAT Plating included, costs 7 Ore and 3 Oil. The use of rechargeable Electrogel let us keep oil costs down juuust enough to make it Expensive!

The greatly intimidating and awe-inspiring first suits of  Grizzly Armor are greeted with great public enthusiasm as they walk through the streets of Mereth and off to war, where the ancient Aratam armor advantage shall finally be vanquished!
...we've also politely asked the government to not immediately sell our mechs to the public this time. Here's hoping that they listen.

Well this is really nice.

Revision: Hell Bear Pit Duels:
Aratam built a brewery for their sponsor's embassy. While we still think our embassy is nothing to laugh at, we do think it could use an improvement. We've added an underground Hell Bear Pit Duels arena to our Forenian embassy. Our diplomatic guests can now watch spectacles such as Bear Soccer and Hell Bear Pit Duels for entertainment! We anticipate that they'll really appreciate this.

To make it even more entertaining, we've introduced some new Bear weapons and improvements!

Firstly is the Bearball. No ordinary soccer ball is good enough for our Bear Soccer spectacle. The Bearball is a large(~2 feet diameter) spiked metal sphere that acts as a brutal soccer ball. Coincidentally, a "faulty" prototype of the Bearball, prone to exploding a few seconds after being kicked, is now seeing use in our military.

Second are the Bear Claws. This triple-bladed gauntlet acts as a new melee weapon for our Hell Bear Pit Duels. The extremely sharp blades laugh at all normal body armor. The Bear Claws are also fairly useful in our Bear Corps in the military. Fury troopers are now even more useless.

Finally, seeing as our Bear Soccer and Hell Bear Pit Duels frequently result in damaged Bear suits, we've implemented a modular repair system. The Bear Armor's external plating has been divided into multiple sections, just as functional as before, but whenever one section is damaged, it can be easily popped out and replaced with a fresh one.
~~~
Revision: UT-62 "Battle Mole":
We've made a combat vehicle out of our Excavator. By adding COMBAT armor plates on the front and rear, we can turn the Excavator into a fairly durable war machine. The Excavator's drill has been... sharpened... to make it useful for destroying enemy vehicles. Finally, we've thrown in a pair of retractable AS-AC18 autocannons on the vehicle's sides.
~~~
Revision: Alternate Body Structure:
It's occurred to us that we could create specialized mechs and power armor suits with non-human shapes for additional maneuverability and terror factor. We get to work on alternate structural skeletons for our power armor and mechs.

Grizzly MkII: We did it! It took us a while, but we finally have functional mechs.
...but why stop there? Let's shoot for the stars. The Grizzly MkII improves on the MkI in two main areas: sensors, and legs.
Microphones on the exterior are linked to speakers within, providing the pilot with unfettered hearing. Sensors embedded in the COMBAT plating are linked to a panel within that shows a diagram of the Grizzly, which will glow red when damage is received. The 'head' is made able to rotate, so that the pilot can turn their head to see to the side rather than having to turn the whole mech. A camera (not fiberscope) provides a rear-view in order to quickly identify threats approaching from behind.
Relatively simple gyroscope-activated counterweights give the mech an improved balance- not enough to the point where it can never fall over, but enough to give the pilot a chance to correct themselves should they stumble. The legs have been given a wider range of motion, more similar to human legs, enabling faster turning and more agile movement- not to mention a slightly easier training program. Combined with the improved balance, this should also let the mech run faster.
The MkI Grizzlies will be relegated to making propaganda videos.

I am proposing my version of a grizzly improvement. Ideally, this and NUKE's could be ultimately merged, but either way it is good to throw ideas around.

Just one note: while I would like to improve grizzly this turn, it very clearly is functional and effective, so it is not needed to do it now. If you have more ideas, it may be time to propose them.

Grizzly MKII-b
The main problem with grizzly is the lack of feedback given to the pilot, who finds himself mostly unaware of the surroundings.
The main component of the revision is a new motion suit, based on a stripped down bear armour mobility system. Sensors on grizzly's actuators detect the positions of the joints, and the motion suit replicates them providing tactile feedback to the soldier. Clearly, the motion suit motors have a movement range restricted to what an human can handle, avoiding injury in case grizzly's limbs are forced off nominal by damage. Furtehrmore, restricting the movements of the soldiers to only what the grizzly can actually perform, it lessens the learning curve.

Minor improvements in the same vein are a set of microphones providing better hearing, a couple of cameras on arms to self inspect visually when needed, and a rotating head for awareness.

WALK-TALK Guildbreaker Activities
While theoretically the idea of a union to ensure that skilled workers are payed their due is a good idea, the Union of Electronics Workers has transgressed far beyond that initial good idea, and are now demanding lots of bribes and kickbacks to do even basic work. Fortunately, this probably means they are corrupt, and between turning the local revenue service on them, turning the official glare of governmental disapproval on them, and setting the police to make sure they can't force newly graduated workers to join them by force or blackmail, we should be able to break them up, or at least severely reduce the amount of bribes they are demanding to do basic work, thus decreasing the complexity of our electronics systems.

And if that doesn't work, we'll just start importing the electronics from Japanese or Chinese sweat shops, whichever one is cheaper.

Bimodal ramjet

The ramjet we have is a wonderful machine, but even if due to the rocket like properties of GOFAST it can still produce thrust from stand still, it is really lackluster at low speed leading towastes and reduced performance. Therefore, we add an electrical powered fan to the engine, providing a significant portion of the thrust at low speed and aiding in providing airflow to the ramjet part. As the conditions become more suitable for ramjets, the fan switches to a total bypass mode.
we expect higher efficiency of the engine, not having to pass through flight regimes in which our engines are horribly inefficient. Furthermore, since the geometry of the ramjet can now be tweaked to focus on the high speed and altitude regime rather than being suitable for everything, we also expect some peak performance improvement.
Since electrogel is denser than batteries, we use it to provide power to the fan. If needed, an hydraulic piston is used to poke it.
