SHADOW Operation
Shrouded Habitat Advancing Downward, Outward, and Watching Operation

Effectively, this operation is focused on setting up a long-term base using HOPE and Lunar Excavators, as well as the new SPACEMARINE Polar Bear suits. Made with DUC derived transparent plastics and hardened plastics for easily setting up habitats and greenhouses for living and working out of and growing food, we're focused on digging downward to extract ore, as well as set up holes in which can be completely covered and sealed to create towns with skylights.

One advance is using the greatest filters DUC has made to help with cleaning the air of these lunar towns, and purifying water.

The last bit is the outward and watching operations, which consist of radio towers being set up to help expansion and communication, as well as telescopes and computing systems to keep an eye on the space between earth and the moon to see if any others approach the moon.

ICE use is carefully monitored, and magmagel is used for heating through electricity. SHADOW will be a great base for defense of the moon and living area, while granting us a mining operation for Ore in the same vein as what MAGMA once did, if on a smaller scale.



Communications Outpost Mining Operation

Effectively focused entirely on collecting ore, the COM Operation is focused on using HOPE to set up a base, and digging up Ore to send back home. To help with communications, we've also set up a Radio Broadcast Tower, and a number of Radio Towers built around Regions we control. This will not only help with communicating with Starknights and those who leave the main base, but also allow us to expand farther out.

Overall, it's MARIA, but with HOPE helping out. Hopefully it will serve as a long-term base to keep us moving to prep other regions for occupation. We've also set up proper space ports for incoming and outgoing Starknights, as well as locations for them and Excavator-Ls to refilter their air supplies via BREATH.

Bioelectronical Unified Grafting computing

The biologists in our laboratories incessantly remind the computer scientists of how even a small rodent brain can do more (equivalent) operations per second than a room sized supercomputer with a lot less power. While most of this computing power doesn't go toward useful things like advanced math and predictive calculus, it still performs amazing ( especially at visual and motory tasks) compared to current electronics. While generally this just devolves into banter about how biologist brains aren't that powerful, somebody decided to actually do something to bridge the gap. If brain tissue is so good, why shouldn't we try to use it in our computers? After all, we already have the beginning of brain-machine interfaces; rudimental, but constrained by needing to preserve the person the machine is attached to.

The key to develop BUG computing was the invention of neuragel, based in part on the electrogel used in CAT with a focus on biocompatibility. The result is a substance that can both interface with brain tissue in a flexible way and at the same time nourishing and protecting it in order to keep it from rotting. Thanks to this, our machines can seamlessly incorporate parts of brains in their computations. While the grafting of biological tissue to our electronic computers does little to boost pure mathemathical tasks,  bioelectronical computers are much, much better at more complex tasks such as problem solving, image and pattern recognition, decision making, fine motory control and all such tasks that organic beings excel at. Needless to say, this would be a great boon to all our computer based tech.

First and foremost, birdbrain and ravenmind could be made much more compact, lighter, and less power intensive since their main functions are exactly the kind that is boosted by BUG. It is a lot more complex to apply it to ORACLE. Clearly, it isn't ever going to be a small machine, due to the need of lots of actual math to perform its predictive functions, which biological and biologist brains are terrible at. However, its tasks also require a rather more abstract kind of reasoning, the kind only provided by the human brain. While organ donations from dying patients allow the gathering of some material, this is considered a lower grade computing aid than what a full, living brain can provide. Therefore, an effort is made to develop a new implant technique in which the prefrontal cortex, seat of complex thought, is layered with neurogel, with connectors being routed to the familiar back of the nexk access port. When accessed, the volunteers "merge" with ORACLE, providing their full mental capacity to planning the war effort, regaining their full consciousness only at the end of the shift. Overall, still a better experience than a cubicle.

Based on MARIA, HOPE, and using SPACEMARINE suits, CAVE implements a small crew base underneath the Starknight landing pads of present MARIA operations. This new lunar operation is intended to allow Starknight crews to use SPACEMARINE suits instead of relying on SERFs and HAUNTERs, allowing easier crew transfer to permanent subsurface outposts to protect crews from the radiation environment.

By doing this, we no longer require a Starknight be present during all mining operations, they only need to arrive regularly to drop off replacement crew, remove old crew, deliver supplies, and then remove the mined-out materials.

HOPE is implemented where possible---air filtration, water-ice processing, and hydrolysis allow for extended life support capabilities while hydroponics supplement the diet. Large facilities are not used, so the hydroponics is more of a testbed for what plants can be grown in the hydroponic environment on the Moon, but still, it is progress towards a better, less-dependent lunar outpost.

I imagine this is probably a better choice---surety of a new Ore to make SPACEMARINE Cheap.

As mentioned in the previous turn, the most exciting field of battle this year will be in the Arstotzkan capitol, with plenty of close-quarter fighting and siege warfare.  Arstotzka, accordingly, spent their design phase developing a high-altitude tactical bomber.

ORE - Onboard Radiological Evaluation

A type of high powered scanner using wavelengths to identify differing material composites. In other words, something that can be attached to Excavators to "See" the material compositions around them, and find high concentrations of Ore or Magmatite or Titanium, or any other material we know the signature of.

Magmatite is noted for not having a signature, which renders it a blind spot. Which is what we can see. The programming can track that too, and show it on holoscreen.

This does necessitate upgrading the holoscreens of excavators to the latest models found in the Firestorm, but it's well worth it for lunar operations. This should solve the last issue plaguing MARIA from being deployed in multiple locations, as HOPE & SPACEMARINE solve the living areas and transport between.

MARIA was a giant leap for mankind. But here at Mereth, giant leaps are not enough. There are unexploited resources on the Moon, and that just won't do. WEREMINE is more or less just an upgrade to MARIA, more thoroughly integrating HOPE technology, along with a few other tweaks.
Living quarters are expanded somewhat, to support a larger population. FIG and BREATH modules are likewise scaled up. Solaris arrays are to be constructed on the surface, along with banks of Magmatite batteries to store energy during the lunar night. HOPE integration, in other words.
However, that's not all. The crucial thing that makes WEREMINE special is the Powerful Recogniser Of Subterranean Prosperity & Excavation Centre Treasurer (PROSPECT), an ICE-cooled computer system that is installed within the base. Based on our extensive experience with ORACLE, PROSPECT is a less ambitious computer (as in, smaller & less flexible), which thanks to years of progress should not pose a major challenge to create. It uses predictive algorithms, taking Earth-Ear and core sample data as input, to direct mining efforts towards high-yield pockets of Ore/Magmatite. It can also be used to manage the day-to-day operation of WEREMINE, reducing the administrative burden on the crew.
WEREMINE also has a number of RAILSTATIONs around the surface entrance to the base, connected by underground cables to the central battery bank. Not enough to stop a dedicated assault, but enough to deter probing attacks or drive away unprepared enemies.

I think Tric is right, in that we need to address the issue mentioned as a limiting factor for MARIA: the difficulty in tracking down mineral deposits. WEREMINE does so. Shouldn't be too hard.

I'll spring for WEREMINE because it probably won't have relevancy issues, buuut its getting hard to have a strong opinion between all these mining proposals
