Optical Metamaterials, Yet Again
A brilliant stroke of genius from the Optical Metamaterials design team has resulted in a new product with specially constructed semiconductors integrated into the metamaterial construction, allowing the frequency band the metamaterial redirects to be adjusted by the simple expedient of altering the voltage across two metal contacts on the inside. Every installation of Mirage Plating now includes a dedicated onboard computer that automates this process at a user's command; it is also provided to Huginn as a new input to the learning algorithms, although we expect the benefit from this to be limited until Huginn itself has been improved. While designing this, we also probably found some shortcuts to make Mirage Plating generally better in other ways, of course, though it wasn't the focus.
Optical Metamaterials, Yet Again (Normal): (4+2)=6: Above Average
Though it feels like much longer than it actually was since we last designed something, we've lost none of our skill. What we are for lack of a better name simply referring to as OM4 should flumox Ertex's anticipated efforts to bypass Mirage Plating. By adjusting the current supplied to the material, we can 'tune' it to a given wavelength. When no current is applied, it defaults to the upper half of visible light- rendering objects with unpowered Mirage Plating a translucent red.
Oh, yeah, we managed to make it work without power.
The new OM4 Mirage Plating can be tuned manually, or automatically- tuning itself to match any laser impacts, and otherwise defaulting to visible light. This is done by a relatively simple computer that can usually be fitted somewhere in or on the Mirage-plated object.
OM4 is also more robust than OM3, and should be able to handle more laser fire before burning out.

OM4 has been put into full production, and the costs are acceptable- not substantially greater than OM3. All Mirage Plating constructed from now on will be of the OM4 variety (Mirage Plating already deployed will not be magically upgraded).



It is now the Revision Phase of SY106.

The core of Huginn will be rewritten to allow distributed, redundant computation even across multiple Huginn clusters, effectively uniting all Huginn clusters within communication range of one another into a single megacomputer; at the same time, it will be made leaner and more efficient, improving its ability to make the most of that computing power. As a result, the learning subsystems will have far more raw intelligence to work with than ever before, allowing them to evolve to their full potential. In order to make the most of this, we will connect pretty much every source of information available to Huginn installations to a new 'Muninn' module designed to maximise the effectiveness and survival of our vehicles and weaponry in ways that extend beyond mere targeting.

Powered humanoid-shaped metal suits are good for construction work. Who knew? Well, apparently, we do, since we are now going to make stripped-down version of the Heimdallr armor, the Rigr suit loses all of the armor and all the fancy bits, retaining only a hard titanium "skin" for operations in vacuum, the batteries, the computer, and the radio. The massively reduced weight and readjusted motors allow for increased lifting ability at the expense of movement speed. A set of magnetic "claws", basically two pincer-like crescents closed with the push of a button, are fitted over the arms to allow the full power of the arm motors to be given to lifting things, without worry about little things like broken hands and fingers. For space construction, an upsized Manned Maneuvering Unit (Open valve, move away from the escaping gas) is utilized for simplicity. A tether supplying extra air and power is optional required due to safety concerns.


Should provide a decent boost to production points, especially in space, since we have to be constructing Odins and Lokis (And ITCs) out of the atmosphere.

Yeah, we needed to increase our production capacity somehow soon anyway. Anyway, in the future we should get a better starfighter, E WAR, and better infantry weapons (fog machine 2 - it works this time) or enhancements like bionic eyes to fix our range issues.

Rígr Construction Harness (Trivial): (1+1)+2=4: Below Average
It seemed like such a simple task. Take the armour off the Heimdallr, add some utility equipment, done. And, well, we didn't fail, per se.
But not for lack of trying.
We determined early on that this was a trivial task- and therefore decided to take some time off. Just a week away, you know, to relax. A week turned into a month. A month turned into two. We forgot entirely about the Rigr until a message came from the EPA agent assigned to make sure our designs are up to code, asking when he could see our latest product.
The final design was sort of thrown together in the course of a long weekend. It is not elegant. It is, in fact, ugly as all getout. We just pulled off armour plating wherever we could, leaving a few pieces attached since they were structurally important, and patched up any resulting holes with duct tape high-tech polymers. The claws were ripped straight from commercial construction equipment, and the MMU is, uh, a tank with a hose attached.
So, yes, it all works. Early trials indicate that it is a lot better than the X100 for constructing things in space, but that is not especially hard. In a breathable environment, it is more of a hindrance than an aid.

The Rigr is a 'boon' to the space-construction industry, and would marginally increase the output of atmosphereless worlds, if we controlled any. It increases our SPP by 2.

Okay, so let me try my hand at this now. I'm probably going to screw this up because I never actually bothered to read the rules for how this portion works until approximately five seconds ago.
Plan: Move All Zig
The OM4 Odin on Quillus moves to D, exchanging with the OM3 Odin there which moves back to Quillus for upgrades.
The ITC on Quillus is loaded with a newly-constructed set of Heimdallr and a newly-constructed pair of Lokis and moves forward to D, dropping the Heimdallr on a unit there. If possible, it returns to Quillus.
The ITC on D removes one Hrungnir and pulls back to C and thence to A, where the outdated Hrungnir will be provided to a unit there — if possible, it then heads all the way back to Quillus.
The ITC on F steps forward to G with its Lokis to secure that lane.
I think the outdated Odin on B should stay where it is to force Ertex to escort any missions there, but I could be talked into having it returned and upgraded as well.

Hopefully y'all realize that assuming they upgraded their ships immediately after their loss (the logical thing) they will probably be seeking to reinforce on D this turn. Meaning another big battle. I mean, OM4 is good, but it doesn't make lasers worthless and Mjolnirs have become so outdated against their island alloy that the battle will probably be going on long after it's burned away. Odins are still armored beasts without OM but one vs whatever ludicrous number they'll field this time is probably gonna end up as a loss for us, meaning they'll probably get to reinforce D and set us back at best. 

And I'm pretty sure you can't drop something off and then continue moving somewhere else.

Overall, I think the idea that we can secure any planet with like 1 Odin against any plural amount of Cuttlefish is wishful thinking. But since our standing fleets boon, OM3, probably just got countered, I don't know how we'll fare in a fleet to fleet slugfest. In hindsight, we probably should have pulled our boys back too so they could get boosted. Honestly, I think the best thing we could do this turn is distribute as much ground stuff as possible with ITC's and pull our fleet back, regroup, and upgrade.

Pull back. Remember that only ONE of our Odins has the OM4, not the other two. Pull back, refit the fleet, and prep for our assault next turn. Next turn, we can scrap the Loki's for a 4th OM4 Odin (Of course, any extra SPP we might get from capturing A or F may bring them back into the fight; D is doing really well and they can't reroute any extra units there, so no cheap numbers advantage for them, I don't see them reversing the situation in one go).

Also, Spin. Remember, the 'If possible, Move to Quillus' mentions in your plan are impossible. We can't Move -> Action -> Move.
