Irritating Neighbors
« on: January 23, 2008, 09:19:00 pm »

So i found what i thought was the perfect spot for my brave group of dwarfes.
A volcano besides a hill with some trees and wildlife around and even enough water, evrything seemd perfect until i noticed that its already claimed by about the biggest village of Kobolts ive ever seen.
now im wondering what is the best way to deal with a BIG pack of hostile creatures like theese?
And whats the best way to prevent my dwarves to go on a suicidal gathering trip trough their village?

Open up the designate menu and forbid everything in the kobold town, then you're going to have to start a fort and wait for migrants until you have enough to destroy the kobold town.

Do they have bows? If not, you could probably just hand out a few axes and send your starting 7 dwarves at them. Kobolds are pansies.

They probably have bows. In that case, a fun strategy is to completely dig away the floor under their cave/tower/whatever so it falls several z-levels and they all die on impact.

If they're in a cave, drown them. You do have an infinite source of water, right?

Sadly i dont, besides their high up in the mountain and it would take an ethernity to get a pumping system up there, not to even speak of the risk for the workers that has to sneak trough their defences.

Seems there is almost certanty of getting unwanted company close to a volcano.
My second fortress in anothe volcano got Trogs as neigbours.

The only difference now is that my fortress is alot more protected against them, unless Trogs have a tradition of sky diving and fall down the cliff side.

Could you post some pictures? I'd like to see what a kobold village looks like.

I'd also like the seed and location. I always get boring fortresses with no enemies to slaughter  :(

It looks pretty much like Trog village, a big cave with some mole dogs giant moles, giant rats etc, bastards even got a big gold vein in there,
they have to die!

Heres the seed: 7616291
Pick any volcano and have fun.
Btw kobolt archers are really dangerus, especially when there are 10 guards of em

Is that gold really worth bring the wrath of Armok upon your fortress?

I think that kobolds should be more complex in terms of their relationships with other races. Why is their entire race evil? It's odd that most kobolds are thieves or kidnappers, and all kobolds will attack another intelligent creature on sight.

No true dwarf would even ask this question. Gold is worth any sort of trouble.

If no accidents happen this might actually become the biggest Fortress ive made so faar.

ITs possition is on a mountain ridge and theres only one way in for the Goblins
So its easily defendable.
Also there is a high probability of admantine since its such a big mountain.
There are even some trees but they are guarded by the Troglodytes,
Not that il need to much trees when i have a underground volcano.
