Does it, though? German for example introduced a new letter just a couple months ago.

Bad spelling is how some memes are born.  Now it is more likely to be autocorrect.

No it didn't. The German government provided official recognition for a glyph variant that was already codified in most extended typefaces.

Yes it did - actually the uppercase ß not being implemented in most fonts was/is a major obstacle to its widespread adoption.

Now, I admit that the uppercase ß mostly looks like a lowercase ß... But still, it's a new letter, and as a consequence some spellings have changed. Should be enough of a counterexample for the purpose at hand.

we can only speculate on why it's locked but the answer is truly irrelevant.
... or just click the link at the top of the first post...
Feel free to comment on the comic in the linked thread, or PM directly. I trust that is a satisfactory and conclusive response on that matter.

As for OP, my friend Ted can explain.

Last link's about writing words how we say them, and you have 'teliport' in the op? Do you actually pronounce it like that?

Saying tel-eh-port sound like you just remembered you're walking with a broom up ur ars.

Tel-ih-port sounds like you want to instantly go somewhere else.

I think we can all agree that the english language is the bastard child of all popular dialects and cares not one whit for proper rules or form of style.

I'm happy to covefe any new word into my language.
