The Rising Sun and the Blood Eagle

IC-Thread

The Year is 1936 and the World is not as we know it. Charlemagne was never known as Charlemagne. Instead he became known as Charles the Blind after a riding accident blinded him permanently. Considered a weak ruler overall, Charles initiated what would be known as the Fall of Christianity. In its place rose once more Norse and Germanic Paganism.

Fast forward a thousand years and we find ourselves in a radically different world.

The Rising Sun and the Blood Eagle is an Alternative History Nation Game, resulting from a Mega-Campaign i played across CK 2 with the Charlemagne start all the way to 1936 Victoria II.
You, the players, can choose from a variety of nations and lead them throughout the oncoming years.

But first lets have a look at the Major and Minor States of Importance:

North America and the Pacific

Central and South America

Africa

Europe

Eurasia

Phew, that was a lot of writing.
Anyway these are the major nations and minor nations who have really anything to say on the political stage.
If you are feeling particularly masochistic here is a list of minnows and OPMs that will in all probability be awfully boring but deserve mention:

Spoiler: OPMs and Minnows (click to show/hide)

If you ever are confused with the map and want to know about a specific nation feel free to post...anyway to the rules.

Rules

This game will be relatively simple and work similiarly to Against the Gods.

You get 3 Major Actions per turn (and up to 5 Minor actions which are mostly for flavor and country customization).
Beyond that you will in due time be given a General Staff with random traits and unknown capabilities which will control parts of your army. In Military Situations you will play the theoretical leader of the army and can micromanage up to one front/battle, while the rest is handed off to your generals who you can give some vague orders. Depending on their skills and traits they will use theri very own unique ways to bring you victory.

Beyond that the game has also research. Generally you have one Research and one Engineering Team, which will help you out in all manners scientific and engineery(?), with the occasional roll for a Genius Scientist or Engineer showing up and bringing your research to a whole new level.

There is no Victory Condition. Success is measured by what you would consider success. The Game runs until it doesn't run anymore.

beyond that:

Etiquette
1. Secret Scheming is allowed and encouraged but please, please, please put me CC into those conversations so i know whats going on.
2. Secret Military and Espionage Actions are allowed, but mundane things go into the IC-Thread.
3. Roleplay is encouraged and prefered but if you feel out of your depth you do not have to.
4. BOLD all actions
5. REMOVE all actions that are not relevant anymore.
6. Losing is part of the Game. Do not immediately give up after a military screw up or because you lost a war. We are in the twentieth century, occupying an entire country is rarely the best solution for the victor and quite often you might come out with a bloodied nose and reeling but still alive to reclaim what is yours.

Sign-Up
Simple, give me a list with 5 countries ordered by priority.
You can play nations not mentioned above but might run into massive extra difficulties due to the nation simply not being relevant in any which way. You have been warned.

You see that darker blue speck on the far west of New Frisia, where it meets with the red of the UK and the Darker Blue of Irish Canada? Thats the Blackfoot.

EDIT:

Population: 1.73 Million
Still not Industrialized
In an Economic Crisis
is basically just an autonomous Region of the United Kingdom
No Standing Military

Possible yes, read my previous post for more info about them. You would be deep in the shitter and just waiting to be occupied by New Frisia when they get around to it. Or to be integrated into the UK.

Great. I'll play as them then. Quick question. How is occupation handled? Is it just a game over or can you still play as a loyal dog/rebel with reduced stats?

Those population numbers seem a little low. Might need to up them by doubling or even quadrupling the numbers.

@Taricus i just did some quick addition of the 10 most populous nations and arrive at 2,104 Billion people. World Population at the onset of World War II was between 2,07 and 2,145 Billion. Mind there is 80 Nations on the map and the one in tenth place is at 90 Million.
So estimate is at around 2,6 - 2,7 Billion world population for our timeline versus 2,07 to 2,145 OTL.

@Secheral if you are annexed you are annexed and gone. Depending on the situation if an effective resistance can be done i will allow continuation as a resistance player. But to be fair with the Blackfoot barely able to produce matchlocks in a time of tanks and planes...unless of course a major nation helps you out or whoever ends up in New Frisia and the UK and Irish Canada all decide that you are not worth it, i don't see any effective resistance in the case of an occupation.

Huh, okay. I didn't know that at all. Well, count me in for taking the reigns of the world empire (AKA Japan). It's time to really get the world order shaken >:D

That was a nice read on it's own, sounds like a whirlwind game.

Funny thing about Persia being industrialized but low tech is a lot of industrial and factory methods really are usable with animal and human power.  Specialization of labor and tools, or infrastructure and financial institutions, are as important as the tech for steam or electricity itself.

I'll take on Persia, just wondering about the shia/sunni split in this world as it represents a pretty significant social and political issue that might be taken on with Persia being Shi'ite.

Edit: Ah nevermind found the info about them under the jomsvikings.  Still going to be an odd thing going on.

Basically the Sunnis vanished as a significant factor in Islam with the fall of the Umayyads and the Abbasids got replaced by the Mansurids which pushed Yazidi pretty hard. The Mongols and later Oirat pushed Sunni faith in Central Asia as their syncretic faith and well with the Mansurids falling, Shiite is the majority sect/persuasion of Islam now.

Amusingly the Church of Zun became the Syncretic Faith of the Alans and was until 1821 active east of Moscow. Somehow they vanished by 1936 however, actually looking closer at the Kievan Rus there is still around 50.000 Zunists left in Cherkassy, Orel, Tambov and Saratov. Couldn't find any in neighbouring countries so yeah.

Vijayanagar. Basically spent all its time since 1821 waging war with Bengal, constantly and endlessly. (Bengal being the much smaller blob northeast of them).

Their army is worn to nubs, their fleet is worn to nubs, the nation is worn to a nub. Population clocks in at around 72 million. India is pretty much depopulated since the Black Death decided to ravage it instead of Europe during the Middle Ages. That was mostly thanks to the Silk Road shutting down in the Mansurid Abbasid Byzantine blowout when the Black Death struck.

India did never quite recover.

Technologically they are playing catch up, except in military matters. Politically its pretty unstable with constant revolts due to lack of any social reforms. Its a Constiutional Monarchy with the Liberals in charge but otherwise not much going on.

From what i gather they won't be setting up any large militaries any time soon and will spend decades just recovering from their near endless wars with bengal...if they are even finished.
